"Because I BLOODY STAMMER" "Interesting. U don't stammer when you swear" The King's Speech. Thus leading to the most interesting form of speech therapy I've seen.
I'd like to see a Neville Chamberlain biographic. And to be fair, he knew that peace in our time was rubbish and that war was inevitable, but he couldn't admit that.
Yeah, it's still hotly debated whether Chamberlain actually believed any of it, or he knew war was inevitable and sought to cynically delay it as long as possible to buy more time to rearm.
I had to be in a special education preschool due to my stutter. I was talking too fast & just trying to blurt things out. Learning to slow down my speech & even think about the phonetic wording of some phrases really helped me. And I met my best friend in that special education classroom. Today, I still occasionally stutter but it's a lot less frequent & my best friend has helped me along the way all these years. Three cheers for King George VI!!
Fun fact: about those weekly meetings between the Prime Minister and the Monarch The Queen and Margaret Thatcher absolutely hated each other, and their meetings tended to be quite hostile
She probably thought after Thatcher it wouldn’t get any worse, weekly meetings with Boris must have been a nightmare and she died 2 days after Liz Truss.
11:46 the swearing scene is uncomfortable, but I can confirm that the swearing treatment is real and geared towards people who only stutter when under stress. By swearing you are releasing stress that quite often has nothing to do with the situation you are in or about to be in, such as a public speech.
Thanks. Makes sense. I'm trying really hard to curb my use of bad words. Sometimes I do really good for quite a while, but when tension crops up I'm unable to eliminate the F bombs. Appreciate your input
That's a very effective coping mechanism you developed; it completely masks any hint of a possible stutter, and instead just makes you sound, well, like a narrator or public speaker, varying his pace and tone to maintain the listeners' interest. Great job narrating these videos. I personally have ADHD, Tourette Syndrome, am on the lower end of the Autism spectrum, and have the all the associated social anxiety problems you can imagine would go along with those things, so speaking in public (and even in private) is usually pretty tortuous for me (not to mention exhausting) and I've had to develop quite a few workarounds and tricks over the decades to force myself to can speak to other human beings in a vague approximation of normal human interaction. I can still get fairly annoying pretty quickly if I don't keep myself in check, but I am much, much better at it now than when I was younger. I have to constantly remind myself to keep my head up and look people in the face while speaking to them, to keep my hands still and not fidget (so I usually keep them folded behind me) and the _hardest_ part, to stop myself from using a pedantic, lecturing tone. Because _so many_ people over the years have thought I was trying to be a smug know-it-all talking down to them about something, when all I had ever intended was to share some exciting bit of knowledge with them that I thought was _really cool_ and I assumed that _they_ would also think it was cool, and so I wanted to share that cool thing with them. My friends who know me understand my real intent when I get into a lecturing tone, but I still run into problems with people who think I'm a weird mix of incredibly shy and extremely arrogant. (But maybe I am that, too.) And, as you can see, these issues even extend to how I write. I am the only person I know of who will actually put footnotes in his Internet comments.
When I was United States Army AIT (Advanced Individual Training, which is the specific job training that soldiers go through after basic training) to be in intelligence, I was dealing with stage fright when giving briefs. So one of my instructors decided to have talk in front of the whole class everyday about anything (as long as it's appropriate) to help me get over it. We are going to be doing a lot of briefing in class and throughout our careers. The second day, I talked about James Earl Jones having a stutter so bad that it left him functionally mute from age 5 until high school. His English teacher discovered that he had a talent for writing poetry and made him read a poem everyday in class to help him get over his stutter.
Yes, please! I would watch the hell out of you doing one about Prince Andrew. Also would like to echo others that it makes me sad that you're only the interim host. I really enjoy your presentation!
You should guys should do a video on Allen Dulles( Kissinger would also be interesting but hes probably too soon). Basically Dulles was the first director of the CIA who served during the peak of the cold war in the 1950s and 60s. He helped plan coup's in Iran and Guatemala along with the bay of pigs invasion. He also helped create the u2 program and mkultra. He also at the center of a number of conspiracies about JFK
This is so funny as I myself have a stutter and this is how I manage my speech by adding swear words in my sentences... its like minor terets but it gets the job done. I'm 33 now and have had problems with my speech from a young age which was a problem for interacting with others and once I was roughly in my teens and discovered that I could say all swear words with no problem then added them in to my normal conversation, parents weren't happy but eventually come round after realising that I wasn't just taking the piss 😂😂 Another fact alcohol also helps my speech... in moderation though This is my longest comment yet
For her wedding cake food was still rationed so severely that only the bottom layer was real, the rest was cardboard. I think it was the Girl Guides but it may have been another group, donated sugar rations to ice the cake. Her mother was the first royal to do walkabouts meeting the people in person. Queen Elizabeth 2nd was the first to touch the people on those walkabouts. Both were groung breaking in their day for humanising the royal family. Diana took to the enth degree in her day. All strong women in their ways but the latter 2/3rds of the 20th century so many changes for the royals.
My grandmother met King George with his young daughters, the future Queen being the most notable, in the 1930’s during the tour of North America that Karl mentioned in this video, as they visited Newfoundland (at the time still a British colony). She proudly recounted the story for the rest of her life. She confirmed the King was well loved and Edward not so much so 😆.

Geeze! No wonder he stuttered and had ulcers. You can't force a lefty to make his right hand dominate. It messes with ones brain chemistry and functions. At least he was karmicly compensated by marrying well and fathering one of the best Queens ever.
Just a quibble - you refer to both George and Elizabeth as being heir apparent. Neither of them ever were Heir apparent is reseeved for someone who cannot be displaced from their spot in the line of auccession by future royal births. In George's case, Edward technically could have married and fathered a legitimate child who would have trumped George in the LOS. At least prior to his abdication. And Elizabeth in her turn could have been outranked at any time before George's death if he had fathered a younger brother for her. The correct term for them is "heir presumptive" Contrast this with Charles III, Prince William and Prince George. As eldest sons, none of them.can be displaced by any future births in the Royal Family. So.they indeed are/were heirs apparent.
Had a stammer all my life, had speech therapy so now you won't really notice and many people don't know I have one... swearing you'll never stammer 😂 you'll have lock jaw and go "f*** sake" to break the lock with no problems 🤣 my little girl has never asked me about it so I guess she never noticed the stammer :)
The point in the script about how Elizabeth endured the ups and downs of her childrens lives with grace and maturity was about HER, not the children. It might be entertaining to rubbish Andrew, but it would have been far more appropriate to analyse Elizabeth.
So, I know this is off subject, but has there ever been a Date Masamune video? If not, can we get one, when you get a chance? Thanks Biographics, Love your channel!

17:10 Elizabeth was heir presumptive not heir apparent because of male primogeniture. At the time women could not be heirs apparent. In fact if they knew that Edward VIII would abdicate. The royal court probably would have insisted that George VI have more kids until he had a son. Male primogeniture was abolished in 2013.
