एक्काइसौं शताव्दीलाई ‘एसियाली शताव्दी’ पनि भन्ने गरिन्छ । खासगरी हाम्रा दुई छिमेकीहरुले विश्व अर्थतन्त्रमा महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा ओगटेका र दक्षिणपूर्वी एसियाका थुप्रै राष्ट्रले प्रगति गरेका कारण संसारको ध्यान यसतर्फ तानिएको हो । यीमध्ये चीन, अमेरिकापछिको दोस्रो ठूलो अर्थतन्त्र बनिसकेको छ भने भारतले पनि त्यही बाटो पछ्याउँदैछ ।
अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय राजनीतिमा पनि चीन-भारतको भूमिका बढ्दैछ । हामी उनीहरुबाट घेरिएको मुलुक भएकाले यहाँ उनीहरुबीच भूराजनीतिक घर्षणमात्र चलिरहेको छैन, उनीहरुलाई रोक्न पश्चिमा शक्तिको बढ्दो सक्रियताले नयाँखाले होडबाजीसमेत आरम्भ गरेको छ ।
काठमाडौंबाट हेर्दा यो प्रतिस्पर्धा कस्तो देखिन्छ ? यसले हामीलाई कसरी गाँज्दै लगेको छ ? यो मामिला कति वास्तविक हो, कति अतिरञ्जित ? हामीले यसबारेमा भूराजनीतिक मामिला विज्ञ चन्द्रदेव भट्टसँग कुराकानी गरेका छौं ।
भट्ट बेलायतको London School of Economics र University of Birmingham बाट प्रशिक्षित राजनीतिशास्त्री हुन् । उनी अमेरिकाको George Warren Brown School of Social Work, Washington University मा दुई बर्ष रिसर्च फेलो पनि थिए ।
हामीले यो कुराकानीमा नेपालले राष्ट्र निर्माणको चरणबाट यहाँसम्म आइपुग्दा आफ्नो परराष्ट्र सम्बन्ध सञ्चालन कसरी गर्दै आएको छ भन्ने पृष्ठभूमि केलाएका छौं । साथै अहिले भारत, चीन, अमेरिकाका नेपालमा जोडिएका रुचीहरु के-के हुन् ? उनीहरुबीच कुन-कुन मुद्दामा कुरा मिल्छ ? कुन-कुनमा मिल्दैन ? यस्तो अवस्थामा हामीले कस्तो नीति र कुटनीति अपनाउने ? लगायतका थुप्रै बिषयहरुमाथि छलफल गरेका छौं ।
≈ Geopolitics & Nepal ≈
The twenty-first century is often referred to as the "Asian century." With our two neighboring countries playing significant roles in the global economy and many Southeast Asian countries making substantial progress, the world's attention has shifted toward this region. Among these countries, China has become the second-largest economy after the United States, and India is following a similar trajectory.
China and India's roles in international politics are also increasing. As a country situated between India and China, Nepal experiences not only geopolitical friction between them but also the growing activity of Western powers, which have launched new initiatives to counter their influence.
What does this competition look like from Kathmandu? How has it impacted us? How real are these dynamics, and to what extent are they exaggerated? We discussed these questions with geopolitical affairs expert Chandra Dev Bhatta.
Bhatta is a political scientist trained at the London School of Economics and the University of Birmingham in the UK. He also held a research fellowship at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, Washington University in St. Louis, USA, for two years.
In this conversation, we provided a background on how Nepal has conducted its foreign relations from the stage of nation-building to the present. We explored the interests of India, China, and the United States in Nepal, the issues where they converge, and where they diverge. We also discussed the policies and diplomatic strategies Nepal should adopt in this context, among many other topics.
