- Pre-Portuguese Islamic structure built by Abrahim Adil Shah in the 16th century. Located in Ponda around 22 kms from Old Goa.
Yet another must visit monument on your trip to Goa.
I am not an anti-Muslim but, It was a Kamakshi temple which is now located in Shiroda Ponda Goa and was destroyed and built by the Adil Shah Sultanate of Bijapur. if you see its structure and Kamakshi temple Shiroda structure and architecture like pool outside temple. anyways I love this Mosque its part of Goa now.

This was Shiva Temple it was destroyed and Mosque das built there was also a Shiv Ling in ancient times as per Portuguese Historical sources..

The question that arises in my mind is how did the Mosque remain standing even though there was the Catholic Inquisition and hatred of Hindus towards the Muslims and vice versa at that time. We should understand Goa wasn't so secular at those times.

What a false narration to project the Masjid was Hindu temple? Have the narrator visited exactly similar small copy of Safa Mosque in other part of Goa or he visited the Bijapur where similar architecture exist. Safa Masjid stand from all destruction due to Mulla/Mulam family who had owned the surrounding land for centuries was strong, united and influential during Portuguese rule. Now all land forcefully occupied/used by Goa government to built highways, government offices and nothing left for the disperse Mulla family whose numbers now around 3,000. Mulla/Mulam family handed over the Masjid to ASI in 1974 & lost control over all land and it was a mistake. Due to heavy movements of vehicles within vicinity, the expert believe it will not last for next thirty years if structure not maintain using Engineering techniques used by all over world for old monuments.
