@@_sneer_ they are single speed reels, very low gear ratios (1:6:1), with less drag than a mid-class spinning reel (35 lbs max). The longer the fight with a shark, the greater the chance they will die. Specifically hammerheads that fight to the death. A senator has tons of line though, more than any other reel, so it can in theory bring down any shark, but at what cost? Most guys i know that target big boys use 2 speed 80w or 130w conventionals with high gear ratios and drag specs up to 100 lbs to horse them in fast and release fast. what beach was this I like how secluded it is? is it hard to reach or was it deserted because of time of year? would really like to plan a trip to Florida and do some fishing need a nice daytime spot tho.
Great catch brother! I have the same reel and not impressed with my current rod. It is to short to get the big ones over the sand bar. May I ask what rod that is you are using?
beautiful tiger bro!! congratulations, that's a monster right there! I gotta move to Florida where the big sharks are, NJ only has sharks up to 200-300lbs inshore and only in the summer :(
Congratulations! Great catch. You should get tags from NMFS and tag the sharks you catch. It's interesting to see where they travel to when caught again.
How did you get the bait way out there? Kayak? I've never used a Penn senator but I'm planning to buy one. I'm a new fisherman just wondering. Any help would be appreciated.
What rod do you recommend for a Penn Senator 14/0? Preferably not custom built. I just ordered a 14/0 that I want to take out soon, but I don't know which rod I can buy (80-130) that it will fit on.
Okiaya venom pro 80-130 will pair up nicely. Amazing value and built with top end components, all guides are Pacbay roller guides and it has a detachable butt which I find a must with these large heavy reels!
Can you tell me what harness you’re using? I’m thinking about the Black Magic, but $300-$400 is kinda steep. I know it’s worth it when the monster is on, but hard to spend that kind of money on a harness alone.
Reefahholic Justin is using the Aftco harness and plate, if I remember correctly. I have used the Aftco harness as long as I can remember but I do use the black magic plate with it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Reefahholic also I never buy anything new for shark fishing. To many people come and go in the sport. Be patient and you can find great deals. My wife and I got our black magic's for around a $100 a piece.
Thanks bro! Really enjoy your videos! Both harnesses seem very popular. Do you guys like the XL plates? I saw black magic has the Standard and XL. I’m 6’2 about 210 lbs...not really sure what size harness or plate to buy. Any suggestions if you bought a new harness today after all your experience?
I hooked a 12 ft Tigershark. It dragged the boat into open water away from a pile of underwater rocks on a gas well head. After it got close to the boat it decided to bolt and broke the line. We just cut the line the next time we hooked one.
You can find them on multiple sites but to get a great deal then use EBay. An other Great reel is the Daiwa Sealine 900h. I have a decent collection of the penn senators because they are fantastic reels for being on shore and out in the deep sea.
You can find them anywhere but anything more than a 10 or 12 is over kill.i have a 6/0 Penn with 700 yards of 100lb braid and additional 100yrds of 100lb mono and it pulls in 8 footers all the time and never close to spooling me.
I use a 12/0 and it gets the job done for any size shark, I'm spooled with 1500 yards of 120lb braid and I tie that to a 30ft section of 300lb mono and use 15ft of 700lb stainless wire. I use breakaway bricks for weight and swivels on everything.
+herr trigger just wondering if you watched long enough to see that the frame changed? If you have ever been apart of a giant shark on the beach you can understand how this might happen during the excitment. Check out some of my other videos. Thanks for watching!
Yes the fish was released and swam away strong. Tigers are very hardy and I have never had one die in over 20years of fishing for them. Thanks for watching.
Switch the clicker off it's going to get destroyed it's only purpose is to let you know you got a bite you turn it off afterward when you start reeling it.
Shark Fishing with LaSharkHunter nice that's awesome I know they swim off pretty slow he just seemed little tired I live in south florida will be hitting jupiter beach by Matos early a.m
404Anime Savage just a fish out of water when we put one on the sand. We are quite experienced at dealing with them. The state laws require us to release them. Thanks for watching!
Nope...too much work, might as well go to work and tug on some Red Iron I-Beams...anything that makes me put my beer down is a no go. I'll keep my tackle small and small baits and stay with the fish up to about 20#...lol, nice job though.
Den Smith your choice I guess... a fish of a life time is 1000x more priceless than taking it easy just for small dinner fish. Your opinion though very understandable
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

I love seeing folks still using the old penns. Family tradition. !!! they last forever. Looking into a 9/0 and 14/0 for myself pretty soon.
ive still got my dads that he bought when he was 20... he's 68 now and still reelin!
I got a 14/0 if you want to buy it. Spooled fresh, down here in Texas.
