A short clip of my 14/0 with a nice tiger on the other end. I just love to hear that sound. This a perfect example of keep the drag tight in the rod holder.

What rod are you using?
Where can buy it?
Agree 100%, the floats are not necessary at all. No float also helps in situations where you do need to cast further.
Although I don’t target sharks anymore, found this out by accident one day beach tarpon fishing. A friend had recently given me a leverdrag reel which if you backed off on the drag to almost freespool there was a good amount of tension still. I was thinking to myself I’d never hook a fish on this reel they’d spit the bait instantly. To my surprise I hooked and landed 8 in a row on that setup and began setting up all my reels like this, leaving a couple lbs of drag on the reel. At one point I hooked and landed 20 in a row. But it is important to have a fairly stiff rod, and if fishing mono, not to go too light. Seems the more flex in the rod and line it doesn’t work well. And the hook needs to be very sharp. Which it is hard to keep a hook sharp these days as the quality of metals used goes down so companies max profit, same for the files to sharpen a hook. With sharks I find either way will work, freespool/light drag or with a few lbs of drag on the reel. If a bigger bait is being used just gotta hook it properly which I know you know haha.
Just tighten that drag all the way down and head to Davy Jones Locker😂
Great job brings back a lot of memories in the beach on high Island and Freeport Tx
thank you for posting i was just thinking to come down there from PA , i guess have to wait a little longer for some reason i thought Sheephead fishing was great in January
Take the damn clicker off that’s how they break on the senators
At one time I worked a 12/0 till it cried Mercy.. Good Job... Senators were the Original workhorses...
what rod do you pair with your 14/0 senator?
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
Hey guys I know this was a long time ago but would you kindly me using a 10 second clip on the reel screaming? Ime a massive drone shark fanatic and setting up a website for tourists when I get to Australia after my kidney transplant to offser shark fishing trips. I hope you don't mind? Thanks so much Adam
the way he's sitting, if the line breaks, the last thing to go through his mind will be that reel
I tell everyone those duskys fight like crazy. Really good battles on those D
Great video! Thanks.
Great video! New to LBSF on the lower Texas coast.
Go Troy Go
So, I think I saw where you put your waders on before kayaking a bait out. I’m am very curious to know…. Does this create a safety concern if you get dumped into the water? I know you had a life jacket on too, but what can happen if someone gets dumped with waders on? Will they fill with water and try pull you under?
Hey man what knot do you use to join braid backing to mono topshot?
How many yards did you kayak out?
Are those the 50 or 80s? Avets
im impressed with the resistance of the nylon lines
Happy for you man good stuff Awesome video Congratulations on the tiger 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Sick combo the rod looks bad ass
Great story, Troy! Pretty sure I hadn't heard that one. It gets doggone disheartening sometimes, like the time Diana lost a winning Bull Shark even after you and I retied her main line out in the surf in the dark of night on PINS. All three of us didn't say a thing and were positively sick for hours afterward. Things happen!
Just part of paying your "dues" on the sand.
Just saw this. Nice fish, few more and nice fish fry in the making. Yellow Perch? Did a little ice fishing while in Alaska, mostly for Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout. Pretty cool!
Are y’all using stock drag or have y’all upgraded the drags?
How long is that rod?
7-8ft ugly stick big water rod I’m assuming
How do you cast that big boy?
Please let me know how you set your reel up what pound of line and how many yards
IMPRESSIVE RUN my man! I'm looking forward to hearing that live in April...
Curious. What kind of rod are you using?
awesome vid!
Congrats brother! Thats a big girl to be swimming around there in January!
I remember hearing this story back in the day. Definitely a lesson that I took to heart. Keep the stories coming brother. Always love hearing them.
Great video brother! This is the game changer for anyone struggling to get past the blacktips and bulls.
great
You're a Louisiana man...where you learned how to deal with ICE...LOL!
Easy on / off operation, quick to clip on / off, and all year on 2 AA batteries...Good tip there Sir!
Good job man...lucky he was whooped.
"Get ready for the next go" Keep going and going!
Never give up...always try and try and try again... Maybe that's a Louisiana thing? 🙃😁
Congrats on the catch Tyler! 🤙 I'm hoping my son can catch a couple nice ones this coming April. We're heading to Okaloosa and will probably fish from Pensacola East on the panhandle.
You are rea!!! Congrats on the tiger!!!
Loved the video. Much appreciated. If you haven’t already, maybe a video on rigging the big baits to the hook. I think the way the hook is rigged/attached to the bait it key. I would love to hear how you do it.
I will try to put a video together that TH-cam won't take down soon. Its a little tricky these days with the rules and guidelines.
Could you give me any other tips?, im 15 and beem fishing since i was 8-9 But this past summer i barley caught my first shark and it was a 4ft black tip then cuaght a 6'6 bull than another 4ft black tip then cuagjt a 6'8 hammer But everyone i see shadk fishing has barley started out and already has 10ft sharks and i just dont know what to feel about it I always work my ass off out on the beach but even with my dad to, we both do everything we can Just dont know if theres anything else
Jack, 10 foot fish is considered a fish of a lifetime for most. Unfortunately many people will say a shark is a certain size without ever measuring it. Social Media is good and bad. The bad is the perception that shark fishing is easy and everyone catches giant sharks. The good is you know it can be done. #1 you have to fish areas with big fish #2 have the right gear #3 prob the best advice i could give you is soak big baits, like a whole stingray and jacks, for 48hrs straight. Do this as much as possible and you will have opportunities at big sharks.
You came across my TH-cam short reels feed. Keep up the week
Absolutely amazing fish! Im so happy you got that monster female before work starts up for us again this year. I wish I could of stuck around for the whole trip! But none the less CONGRATULATIONS TIGER KING 🤴
A few weeks a go i was gonna say who yall think is king of the pan handle. I had it between you and big john. I think this clears it up. I almost got senators back in the day because of your videos
I'm on my way out and he is definitely on the way up. I still love my senators. My 14/0 just hasn't been very lucky lately.
Oz
@@davidschmidt8391 OZ is definitely the man but he doesn't fish the area that i fish. but I have the utmost respect for him.
