MASSIVE World Record Size Hammerhead Shark Caught Fishing with Greg Norman

- In this episode of BlacktipH, Greg Norman and I catch a massive hammerhead shark that was bigger in overall length than the current world record. I was flying my drone and found a monster hammerhead shark chasing a blacktip shark, trying to eat it. We hooked a blacktip shark and moments later, a massive hammerhead shark swam by the boat and proceeded to eat the blacktip shark that we hooked. I managed to capture the entire feeding behavior with my drone! Greg fought the shark for nearly an hour with heavy tackle. The size of this shark was massive, larger than we imagined! The overall length of the shark was 175 inches (14ft and 7 inches), literary the largest hammerhead shark I've ever seen! Myself, Greg and Ryan decided to jump in the water with the shark before the release. This was such an incredible experience! Greg caught and released one of the largest hammerhead sharks ever on rod and reel!

Valid Reminds me of a snorkeling experience I had once. I was only a little kid on vacation with my parents in Cozumel when we decided to go snorkeling. I'm just looking around underwater, minding my own business, when I look in front of me and see a fish swimming straight at me. I think it's no big deal, but then it turned to the side, and it was right then that I realized that it had pretty big teeth. Turns out it was a barricuda, and as I had recently watched Finding Nemo, I was understandably terrified.

Imagine a woman (technically a dwarf at almost 4'8" but I don't have dwarfism) running and screaming in a river over those little skinny fish that are about an inch long and nibble you very lightly, kinda like the ones used in spas but they have a weaker nip. That's me about a year ago when I went camping with my family near a river. The most interesting thing besides that was this crow that was making chicken noises.

Yes they didn’t show the release, because the shark never revived you dummy’s
So glad you took the time to help rejuvenate/oxygenate the shark before releasing it. Those particular sharks stress out easily (no matter how large they are) and it's easy for them to die quickly. That was an old fish to be so large. I'm really glad you let him live to fight another day!

@@JeremiahWatkins-zv8bn not according to Josh. The video is titled fighting a 1000+ lb sawfish so I would guess it's similar weight. That sawfish is the biggest fish caught on this channel and Josh would agree.
Bert236 of course these are just assumption. Perhaps that was the heaviest and largest fish he’s caught on the channel. But the reason I would believe this hammerhead would weigh more is due to the fact full 20ft sawfish grow to around 1100-1300lbs. his being around 17ft would mean it wouldn’t weigh quite as much. Still an impressive weight. Also the muscle structure between a sawfish and a hammerhead is different. Hammerhead muscle density is much greater which would mean much heavier. These are all assumption, again. I’m not claiming anything. I’m no marine biologist haha.

The best video you ever posted. I know how hard it is to get everything to line up perfectly and you guys killed it. From the camera work, storytelling, drone shots, the fight, and most importantly the release it was EPIC.
They didn't show the release tho which makes me think that sadly "killed it" in this case might mean the shark as well.

Most sharks don’t survive being hooked in the mouth and fighting for their lives while being drug to the boat or shore. Lactic acid build up in the bloodstream kills then. They literally die of exhaustion. There’s absolutely no point in terrorizing these magnificent animals.

@@itsBAY35 The point I was making was that the shark was hooked and being used as live bait it didn't eat it after it was hooked . they used it as bait.
There are a few different types of hammerheads, but this has got to be a great hammerhead. They can get up to 20 feet whereas the smaller, scalloped hammerhead, can get up to 12 feet :) (thank you for letting the shark go, that made me so happy, but next time DO NOT jump in, you could be putting the shark under a lot of stress which isn’t cool)
Hammerheads have crazy heat sensors that are so good they can tell what’s good, a threat, and what isn’t. Humans don’t bother them at all

I wouldn't thank them unless they show video of them actually setting it free. For all we know its dead, as last shown it was not moving and tied up. They never showed it swimming away. Unless i missed something?

If the shark was alive they would have filmed it being released.
Catch and release is still potentially lethal to sharks, particularly hammerheads, due to lactic acid buildup in the blood. There are more resilient sharks species, but hammerheads are unfortunately among the more sensitive species studied. This is gaudy at best and is inarguably putting the shark in extreme danger.

So cool, he swallows the shark and got the hook in his stomach!!! So cool. You “ fought him for an hour” so cool. Then you released him... or... you saw the coolest mother shark ever and you hurt it, wore it out and then let it go injured and tired.... so cool.... I hunt for food not for amusement. There is no respect for this animal here.
true. hunting is not supposed to be a sport. if we could repurpose our finest to combat climate change we may be able to exist past the next two gens.

Nice release but this kind of old-school trophy fishing just isn't good for the fish. Sure, you revived it, but the fish is still in an exhausted state for the next hours or maybe days. This leaves it unable to hunt and vulnerable to predators.
