Bows are incredibly useful in this game. I feel like the coastal cave merchant could have gotten one rank higher just for the broadsword. It is the best non-somber straight sword in the game in terms of damage after all. Sure it doesn't have a thrust R2, or is as long as some of the others, but if it's damage you're after then this is the one you want.
It's actually nuts because there's literally no other weapon category where one weapon is the strongest with every infusion. Usually there's at least one Str and one Dex.

Bad take on the note; finding out game knowledge ingame in an immersive way will always be superior to alt tabbing to internet resources. Edit: cut content implies that the notes are taken on crows to pass information between merchants, so yeah it is absolutely an underground cabal
I love the merchants XD I think it's fun to collect all cooking books and armor sets. And I just love how some of them open shop in the most isolated and intransitable places 🤣🤣 Kalé hands down takes the crown without him I wouldn't have acquired the Blodhound sword.
10:00 So, I'm not really sure when they took this out but at one point early in the game's lifetime, those notes had a bit of extra lore to them. The Flask of Wondrous Physick note, for example, was written by a high ranking member in the nomadic merchant club that had seen the flask at the Third Church of Marika but couldn't stop to grab it. Kind of a shame that they removed it in favor of "There is a Flask of Wondrous Physick at the Third Church of Marika." Or "You can bring flying foes low with gravity."
Saintsbridge and Forest-Spanning Greatbridge are S-Teir simply for the tunes. Also, you can totally farm that gravel in the gorge on the way to the colosseum with the giant Jar warrior in Caelid.
Objectively wrong of you to rate Kalé as C tier. 22:03 bloodbone bolts are amongst my favorites, on the pulley bow they can output suprising dmg with almost no investment alongside being infinitly craftable because this guy and the merchant who sells meat and bones.
Ah, Kale...the only memorable Nomadic merchant because 1. He's the first merchant you find 2. He's named 3. HE'S DRESSED AS SANTA! Seriously -- I actually yelled out "HOLY SHIT! Kids look its SANTA!" The first time I ever played Elden Ring and me and my kids have never lost our wonder for Kale.
Merry Christmas, Rusty! Your dedication to quality over quantity is something I can only aspire to. Each video from you is entertaining and fun. Have a happy holidays and a great new year!
Kale should be S based purely on the crafting kit, the only place you can get that. also the benefit of him on a first playthrough especially if you are like me and go wretch every time so you can't even find an armor set easily unless you farm
The Merchant across the bridge in Limgrave was one I completely missed and had to look up the location of after beating the game when collecting armors and what not, same with the one on the ramp after you get into the academy.
The notes are more valuable than they initially seem. For example, the stonedigger troll one referring to their stance break critical point, but the fact that you can cripple them with enough head damage. Like reduce their moveset to like 1/3 of its original and make them much less aggressive. Also don't diss the estoc. Estoc is the Bestoc
16:49 remember we have warning labels about keeping your hand away from business end of a chainsaw while it on for a reason. People will find this shocking to find out I'm sure. Hell I didn't even know about it because I just didn't even tough magic. It's took me until I got the fallenstar beast jaw which immediately because my main weapons on my Dex character.
Now that I've experienced majority of the game, I do wish there was more sleep and madness based enemies/bosses. I know there a madness based ending but it would be cool to have some bosses use it against you as well as sleep.
I love the weeping one next to the knights cavalry I did a 'challenge' run (no it's not really a challenge) but I could only use stuff i got from one merchant. So if I randomized to get a crap merchant then I would have a problem, but I got this guy and omfg. He sets you up so well. Elden bling and a viable weapon? Plus a talisman that buffs your HP??? AND INFINITE KUKRI!? Yeah this guy's my goat.
Regarding your point at 10:03. The merchants ARE connected to the three fingers and the frenzy flame. So them writing a note telling you to stay away. Is kinda cool lore building.
if u just wanna get the golden scarab in the rot cave these additional preserving boluses do come in handy early on besides the ones in that one shack, don't think id would go out of my way to craft them though.

the troll head weakness thing is more than just their riposte spot, if you shoot them there it stuns them really hard, it has a whole animation.
Thank you Rusty. The holidays are always hard for me but this made my day a little better.
My favorite is the one playing gehrman’s theme, I think he’s on a bridge in altus
"At the end of the day, the sharpest thorn in capitalism's side is always gonna be the word "No"."
Leave it to Rusty to consistently drop some of hardest lines I've heard in a while
The merchants outfits are so great though. They should get a break just for those. I wish we had access to the ones that had the full face covering. Looks so good
I don’t care what any of the merchants sell, Kalé is the best. He has a name, a personality, and a soul. He was one of the first NPCs I ever talked to, and he was nice to me. I go back to him every once in a while just to say hi. Kalé will forever hold a special place in my heart.
22:02 there are 3 or 4 that respawn at fort Haight, its a fairly recent change. they did not respawn before iirc!
8:42 Seeing a crossbow be treated like a hovering fidget spinner is so bizarre for so many reasons.
Imprisoned Merchant should be S-Tier, a shit shop that beats your ass when you attack is funny asf
A merchant run might be an interesting sort of roleplay. You use the items they sell and the equipment and spells they use.
Just realized the sentry’s torch looks just like the giant torch things stuck into the battlefield around Leyndell
2:05 oh naw. Look at them RUNES
Is there anything rusty can't rank, like, wow
"Bows and arrows so useless in this game"
Me literally gathered 3,5 million runes just by shooting some crow:
Bad take on the note; finding out game knowledge ingame in an immersive way will always be superior to alt tabbing to internet resources. Edit: cut content implies that the notes are taken on crows to pass information between merchants, so yeah it is absolutely an underground cabal
I love the merchants XD I think it's fun to collect all cooking books and armor sets. And I just love how some of them open shop in the most isolated and intransitable places 🤣🤣 Kalé hands down takes the crown without him I wouldn't have acquired the Blodhound sword.
What an amazing Christmas gift
Agreed
10:00 So, I'm not really sure when they took this out but at one point early in the game's lifetime, those notes had a bit of extra lore to them. The Flask of Wondrous Physick note, for example, was written by a high ranking member in the nomadic merchant club that had seen the flask at the Third Church of Marika but couldn't stop to grab it. Kind of a shame that they removed it in favor of "There is a Flask of Wondrous Physick at the Third Church of Marika." Or "You can bring flying foes low with gravity."
Kalè visited my house and gave me presents, can confirm he is santa
Saintsbridge and Forest-Spanning Greatbridge are S-Teir simply for the tunes.
Also, you can totally farm that gravel in the gorge on the way to the colosseum with the giant Jar warrior in Caelid.
1:52 Bows are actually pretty good this time around.
I'm serious.
_stop laughing_
Every merchant that sells a lantern is S-tier in my book. God bless the Holders of the Hand Lantern. The lack of a Bloodborne PC port can't divide us.
The spinning crossbow broke me.
You are quickly becoming one of my favorite creators. Your level of smart assery is inspiring lol. Please never stop roasting the gamer world
And I thought Christmas Couldn't get better
I love that 80% of the comments say that Kale should be S-tier.
And I 100% agree with them!
Objectively wrong of you to rate Kalé as C tier. He's S tier, because he sells you the crafting kit, a super essential item and also a standard torch for caves, telescope and a decent shield and chain armor if your current armor (or lack thereof) isn't suffice. This is your "fireball is the worst spell in DS3" all over again
Happy holidays! Love watching your content man :D
22:25 Seastorm shield users rise up!
its 3d space cadet pinball time!
22:03 bloodbone bolts are amongst my favorites, on the pulley bow they can output suprising dmg with almost no investment alongside being infinitly craftable because this guy and the merchant who sells meat and bones.
Ah, Kale...the only memorable Nomadic merchant because
1. He's the first merchant you find
2. He's named
3. HE'S DRESSED AS SANTA!
Seriously -- I actually yelled out "HOLY SHIT! Kids look its SANTA!" The first time I ever played Elden Ring and me and my kids have never lost our wonder for Kale.
The enchanted shot ash of war is what the followers use with the dwelling arrow so yes you can do that back to them
Merry Christmas, Rusty!
Top tier is the one who you find playing the instrument (saints bridge)
I love sitting there just listening
The notes are more valuable than they initially seem. For example, the stonedigger troll one referring to their stance break critical point, but the fact that you can cripple them with enough head damage. Like reduce their moveset to like 1/3 of its original and make them much less aggressive. Also don't diss the estoc. Estoc is the Bestoc
The one thing i can see the gravity note useful for is if it works of dragons and bosses
I’ve been giggling at “a parking lot of sentient, carnivorous woodchippers” for like 10 minutes now.
The slow pan of the merchants having you in the background going Absolutly bonkers with that flail got me dying bro
Zweihander merchant is S tier because he sells you the best weapon in the game. Oh and he has the lantern and some crafting stuff I guess
Merry Christmas rusty thanks for another banger
Regarding your point at 10:03. The merchants ARE connected to the three fingers and the frenzy flame. So them writing a note telling you to stay away. Is kinda cool lore building.
if u just wanna get the golden scarab in the rot cave these additional preserving boluses do come in handy early on besides the ones in that one shack, don't think id would go out of my way to craft them though.
Fun fact: According to VaatiVidya’s video about the Frenzied Flame, Kalé DID actually have a questline & cut dialogue, which makes him much more unique than the others.
I did my RL1 run with Zweihander so for me it’s weeping peninsula how ever kurki daggers are pretty useful to compliment bleed builds so that one is good to
Hey, bow builds are doable, got one running now that can do half-hp damage to the ulcerating tree spirits in like one or two arrow rains, they're still fun as heck, just bad in pvp unless you're a turbo-god
8:40 okay but spinning weapon on that crossbow looked really cool
Revanents can be damaged by healing spells and if you figured that out by yourself, then that must have been one hilarious accident"
Yeah I thought I got away from the zombie-centipede, was out of flasks so mid charge on my heal I hear the scream as it rose up behind me, I released the button and it crumpled like wet paper lol
Love the background music. Very chill.
The Beast Repellant torch deserves to send that merchant to SSS+ tier. I didn’t pick it up on a recent playthrough, and I was mind blown about just how frustrating the game is without it lmao. 😂
Remember guys the Aeonian butterfly DO not respawn so get and BUY as many as you can
That merchant that says he's hungry pissed me off the first time I played.
"Me is hungy buy my MEAT!"
