    Disclaimer: the whale was already dead and they decided to use dynamite because they believed it would make it easier for birds to pick off the pieces of flesh and clean it up. They were wrong in every possible way.

    In a geology class, I had a professor explain how terrestrial dinosaurs could have ended up as fossils at the bottom of a body of water. He described the process as “the bloat and float” followed by “the pop and drop”.
    He then showed us a video of a whale exploding.
    Good times.

      if anyone's wondering, this is also likely how we got that one really famous armored dinosaur "mummy" that goes around every few months. it likely bobbed upside-down into the ocean (its stomach was far less plated/armored, so path of least resistance for expanding gas), then popped and sank down, burying it upside down in the sediment, where it was quickly covered and fossilized, leaving us with an absolutely stunningly preserved head and back!

    • @becominghero9754
      @becominghero9754 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@curiousnerdkittehYou really don't have to be YEC to believe in cataclysmic flooding after seismic plate shifting. Shoot, even with the meteor theory unaliving dinos you would have enormous tsunamis depending on where it hit. Not to mention we know climate change, accelerated, can indeed cause significant sea level rises and huge natural disasters. No YEC required.
      If you do want to bring theology into it, interesting that the verse before Hashem talks about the Flood, in Hebrew, uses the words "grieved" over the "land." If that isn't climate change code I don't know what is--buncha greedy people oppressing each other and the animals, and then there's a global catastrophe? Sounds familiar, no?
      So, you know. Gotta follow the evidence more than the people who are associated with it, savory or otherwise. Could impact how we choose to live today.

    Btw for anyone feeling bad for the female ferrets, we now have what are known as 'jill jabs' (female ferrets are known as jills). The jab basically induces ovulation so that she doesn't have to get pregnant to avoid anemia and is increasingly used by many ferret owners.
    Spaying is also an option, though many ferret owners prefer to get the jill jab if it available to them since removing the ovaries increases the risk of other diseases later in life.

    The biggest dangers to humans in nature aren't even predators. Predators are lazy af when they aren't actively hunting and looking for a meal. Predators aren't really territorial if you aren't another recognized predator, because new blood in the territory means more possible food.
    It is the herbivores and omnivores that you need to worry about. They have adapted defenses to predators, and their first reaction to humans is "predator". They aren't wrong, but humans without tools are wrecked by EVERYTHING.

    It wasn't a dying whale, it was a dead whale that they couldn't get off the beach. They tried dynamite to blow it up in the hopes that the pieces that remained would be small enough to clean up and that the gulls would deal with the mess that remained (they assume it would be a ton of little bite sized bits). Instead it just launched huge chunks and left a beach covered in guts and a dead whale that still couldn't be moved. The gulls wouldn't eat it either.

It had been dead for a while and they mulled over different ways to dispose of it before deciding explosives would be a good solution. They weren't. The original news story is available via youtube.

The surviving elephants retreated back to the Carthaginian lines and trampled some of their own men.
