  • The RGB30 is a oddly shaped little device and comes in at $90. In this video, I feature some gameplay from the devices that fit that 1:1 aspect ratio of the screen. I have a Pico 8 Native Splore Tutorial and show some issues that I had at the beginning of my journey with this handheld.

I bought a miyoo mini plus with the 128gb sd with Onion preinstalled from litnxt, and the included card was a sandisk.

If you buy this device, you must install Arkos instead of Jelos, with Arkos, psx, n64, saturn and dreamcast play at full speed, on Jelos those systems are mostly unplayable. You can also install a rumble motor and it will only work with Arkos. The only thing Jelos has that Arkos doesn't is the ability to view game manuals.

seems like a nice console for playing gba games.

it is, and allows perfect 3x integer scaling on GBA for sharp pixels.

I had an issue with games not launching, then hanging at a black screen. I was able to fix most of them by changing the emulator each game was trying to use. Highlight the game you want, press X, choose "Advanced Game Options" and the first line on this page will say "Emulator". You can pick a different emulator here, and you might find some actually work for certain games.
I think the included ROMs are from different, incompatible romsets. Thanks for the vid!

Glad you fixed the issue. Yeah Per system config section in the settings really helps things.

Don't forget to pick up Sam's Journey for the Famicom. You should probably pick up an HD-938 as well to play on TV or on the go. Don't forget to hold Reset when powering down to keep your Save File. Orange Island and Piopow should be out soon.

Good overview, love my rgb30 (it's in my top 3). A few additional comments:
The HDMI out does work great, and you can use the device itself instead of wired/wireless controllers for 1-player games.
Too many people focus way too much on "black bars." Just look at the active game portion of the display! Also, with a black model (like yours), the BBs sorta disappear anyway.
Finally, the screen is almost perfect for NES/SNES. Use the 8:7 ratio and cut off the 8hpixel overscan on each side, and you get nice integer scaling for these systems. The NES/SNES are actually 8:7 systems, not 4:3.
As a bonus note, this screen gives you really nice 3x integer scaling for the GBA too.

well not really, yes internally snes render the game in 8:7. but not all snes games are meant to be played in 8:7, such as chrono trigger. we’ll get “rounder”things that are supposed to be round in 4:3. the dev made some sort of rendering tricks to compensate for 4:3 stretching, which was the majority of CRT TV aspect ratio at that moment. also, by forcing the 8:7 & 8 pixels overscan for chrono trigger in particular, the dialog texts got cut. in some dialog, we wouldn’t be able to read the char name due to said overscan.

but still, I love my rgb30 for GBA games with those crisp pixels

I think you should do a Video adding a Rumble motor to the unit because it can. Then getting a real Cartridge of Legend of the River King 2 for Gameboy Color and an Epilogue GB Operator. Then use the Epilogue to Dump your legally owned game to PC then using the Gameboy ROM Analyzer for Windows change the Cartridge type to 1EH from the selection and fix the header. This enables Rumble that was programmed into the Japanese version and just needs to be opened on the English version. It works on the Pow Kiddy V90 with the Pocket Go Firmware Update and will work on this as well if you put a motor in. The V90 already has one. You could play with Rumble using mGBA with a Rumble Controller or make your own Cartridge with a Geek Tech Batterless Save Cartridge for Backup from ETSY. The Earthquake at the beginning will let you know if you did it right.

@@RetroFunTech thanks!! hopefully the genius' in china can make it happen! Looking forward to your Arc review, I know it's not aimed at gameboy/gamegear but would be cool to see how much of/if it is a downgrade to the rgb30 in respect to square-aspect systems.

Oh very cool! Enjoy! What are you playing on it?
No, I tried to test it pretty thoroughly and didn't notice any heat issue. Is it just the screen that gets hot?

Cool lil device. Does powkiddy make a device that plays n64 and Dreamcast well? I’m not really a fan of the square screens. Also not a fan of stacked shoulder button (I don’t have full feeling in my left hand, so it makes it hard to tell if I’m pressing it) but there is something kinda cool about this lil machine. You know what lil handheld plays psp roms really well?…psp lol. I picked one up loaded with roms and it’s quite the little handheld. As always thanks for your honest review. Much appreciated.

RGB 30 Owner here. It does play n64 and Dreamcast games. Plays Jetset Radio pretty well. N64 I tested Jet Force Gemini with less stellar results. Dreamcast capcom fighters work really well.
