In the Netherlands this version (t8) is the most sold edition due to tax advantages. Here there are also a lot of charge points, in every city in about 500 meters you will find a parking with "charging poles" I really love this car. Such a beautiful design. I think the interior is from higher quality than an Audi. The quality is not only based on the clicking sound of buttons, but also on innovation and every day practicallity. The plastics in the Q7 are so thin on some of the surfaces that when pressing is squeeze and making cracking sounds. The XC90 is much more robust. Also the beverage holders in the Q7 are just from a long time ago. With the new Lexus RX on top of its segment.
This is one of the TOP full size SUV in terms of elegance, functionality, space and power. The most complete review of any car, great job Thomas, I always follow your reviews in every car because you are one of the very best and honest reviewer out there.

Some shots you take of the cars, especially in snow area are way better than some of the paid for multi million advertisements for the car. Really love the quality as always. Your camera man or woman is really good at product presentation. Possibly my favorite SUV on the market right now. i love the light blue matte one as well.
Wow best car reviewer I've seen so far (detailed, objective, interactive, informative). I do not have the money to buy all these expensive but yet attractive cars, but man do they look great to drive. If one day I have the money, I'll check first your review on it for sure !
I really can't believe that you DID came up with this review of Volvo XC90 T8 R-Design (and that too in the same matt finish blue, as you had committed), as promised in your earlier full test drive review of Volvo XC90 2016, which was actually a 1 hour documentary of all the variants offered by volvo. I thought you might not be coming up with more reviews of XC90 as you had already came up with many full detailed test drive review of the XC90 earlier. Thanks Thomas! And of course one more very important thing to say - You never fail to give this very important message in every reviews that we should avoid leather seats as its not only good for animals but in real world also its not as much good/comfortable to the occupant, as compared to alcantara finishing. And actually i feel the same as well. My first car was Honda City which had no leather touch interior and now two months back i purchased Audi A6 which has all leather interior (and sadly we have no option to go for other alternative in my country - India). And after experiencing the interior of both the cars, though Honda is no match for Audi but for sure i can say the soft fabrics of Honda feels more comfortable on the skin than the leather of Audi which has a bit of uneasiness on touch.

last weekend i was making first impressions with xc90 r-style (same color also) and s90. After I sat in the reThe Xross Country is a car i never wanted to leave. The ultimate car for my point of view. S90 have a massive nose/grill and front that makes tha car feel more bigger than it is and feels. And kind a small trunk door. Other wise very beautiful peace of art. Your channel is amazingly honest and objective. I like that You go through all of the car in its details. Thank You!

Great review. Just like the Scandinavian design philosophy of form following function. Simple and clean… that describes your review style. Very easy to listen to and straight forward information. Awesome.
So this is a seven seater hybrid (with batterys underneath the floor) wich has a very usable trunk/boot space even with using the third row seats, it has a very huge interior space wich also looks comfortable and very luxorious at the same time, not to mention the stunning design outside. AMAZING, Volvo!!! I am not against the three German premium brand at all, but man, I am soo rooting for Volvo XC90 this time!
Good review Thomas! One thing regarding charging battery during driving. One aspect is to save battery for city driving becouse of regulation, but another aspect is to save fuel during city driving. Comnbustion engines are least effective and consume more in stop-go driving and are the most efficient during constant low rev driving (autobahn etc.). Therefore it actualy is efficient in terms of fuel consumption to charge during motorway driving and then e-drive in city...at least this is what I think is the main thing here, it would be great if you could check the theory with engineers...

It is a stunner although I don't like the horizontal grille on the front of this one. I prefer the vertical grille it makes the car look very elegant imo!!

Great review for anyone who is considering purchasing the T8. I missed a detailed comparison between the Q7 e-tron which you have tested some months ago.
Very interesting car, although I would never own one personally, but the Volvos have always had that things about them, although I do prefer our current car :D Also, just ignore it when people say to stop saying you don't like leather seats, you are a car reviewer who gives your honest opinions on the cars, I prefer leather seats personally, but you don't, it's your channel and your opinion on the cars, not theirs. Keep doing what you already are because in my opinion you are the best car reviewing channel on youtube and there is a reason why you have such a big fanbase!

I'd be happier with a turbo 6, but as they say, that ship has sailed for Volvo. Hello Thomas, nice comment at 34' going on the park ramp - "you hardly hear the petrol engine". It's simple - the petrol engine wasn't running - the petrol drop in the dashboard is not "filled", so you were going electric. ;-) I have my T8 since the beginning of the year and I am quite satisfied...
+Autogefühl You can see, that the drop is not "filled up" and even the pointer is still well below the threshold for switching - the engine is activated about 30-40 sec. later - exactly when you noticed, that you can hear the sound... ;-)

Hi Thomas, fantastic review as always. Regrading the choice of options vs pricing, a lot of people like to load up their XC90 because it's 10-15K cheaper than the competition from MB, Audi and BMW that are similarly equipped. At least here in the US that seems to be the case.
This car looks really good! As someone who like tech stuff a lot, I actually don't mind the extra scrolling on the infotainment display, it's a major improvement from previous Volvo cars which had *a lot* of buttons! It looks almost like an Android screen. Also I noticed that the infotainment has Here Maps included which is a nice touch but I've always hoped that manufacturers will include Waze instead - I feel that the ability of Waze to automatically avoid high traffic areas is superior to any other navigation apps. I only wish they had options to change the leather trim to something like Artico on the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupe, I'm not a fan of using leather in cars.
Well Thomas, I think I am becoming a huge SUV fan, that T8 with THAT specific color is truly the best looking SUV out there, here in my country we still dont support electric vehicles, all I can do is praise it from afar. :P
Thomas is turning into a bit of a hooligan with all the sliding and drifting in the snow he's doing! You're having way too much fun there, you make me jealous! :-) For an SUV (which is definitely not my favorite kind of car) this one is quite good looking on the outside. The blue is very nice, although I would never go for the matte color. The interior is really excellent, so many wonderful details and a good looking and quite functional multimedia system. Really impressive. If this is a model for newer versions of their smaller cars, this bodes very well for the future. As for the durability of the gasoline engine in hybrids, due to lack of use and/or making use of full power on the engine while it's not up to operating temperatures yet: this indeed seems to be a concern. I read that for example Volkswagen has taken special measures for the 1.4 TSI engine that is used in their hybrids: "A few examples: A polymer coating was applied to the main and connecting rod bearings; a coating of special hard materials was applied to the piston rings; and special modifications were made to the bearing shells and piston play."
Could you also do car reviews from the inside of the car at night time? This way we get a feeling how it looks at night, especially luxury cars (Q7, XC90) love your work By the way! Great job!

Hello Thomas, nice comment at 34' going on the park ramp - "you hardly hear the petrol engine". It's simple - the petrol engine wasn't running - the petrol drop in the dashboard is not "filled", so you were going electric. ;-)
I have my T8 since the beginning of the year and I am quite satisfied...
+gseum I am pretty sure it was activated at the steepest point of the ramp, didnt it ? :)
+Autogefühl You can see, that the drop is not "filled up" and even the pointer is still well below the threshold for switching - the engine is activated about 30-40 sec. later - exactly when you noticed, that you can hear the sound... ;-)

+Autogefühl The car is so calm, I like it very much. At the end of your video you can see a nice red one - this is MY color, I had 3 Volvos in signal red - and I have the possibility to change my black Inscription 1:1 to a signal red R-Design in September... :D

Excellent review thanks, much better than the typical magazine shallow reviews. I'd take this over the equivalent Audi/BMW/Merc any day. Trying to decide between XC90 T8 and smaller XC60 T8 for next car. Hope you get to review that one too.

Hi Thomas, fantastic review as always. Regrading the choice of options vs pricing, a lot of people like to load up their XC90 because it's 10-15K cheaper than the competition from MB, Audi and BMW that are similarly equipped. At least here in the US that seems to be the case.

This car looks really good! As someone who like tech stuff a lot, I actually don't mind the extra scrolling on the infotainment display, it's a major improvement from previous Volvo cars which had *a lot* of buttons! It looks almost like an Android screen. Also I noticed that the infotainment has Here Maps included which is a nice touch but I've always hoped that manufacturers will include Waze instead - I feel that the ability of Waze to automatically avoid high traffic areas is superior to any other navigation apps. I only wish they had options to change the leather trim to something like Artico on the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupe, I'm not a fan of using leather in cars.

Well Thomas, I think I am becoming a huge SUV fan, that T8 with THAT specific color is truly the best looking SUV out there, here in my country we still dont support electric vehicles, all I can do is praise it from afar. :P

Thomas is turning into a bit of a hooligan with all the sliding and drifting in the snow he's doing! You're having way too much fun there, you make me jealous! :-)
For an SUV (which is definitely not my favorite kind of car) this one is quite good looking on the outside. The blue is very nice, although I would never go for the matte color. The interior is really excellent, so many wonderful details and a good looking and quite functional multimedia system. Really impressive.
If this is a model for newer versions of their smaller cars, this bodes very well for the future.
As for the durability of the gasoline engine in hybrids, due to lack of use and/or making use of full power on the engine while it's not up to operating temperatures yet: this indeed seems to be a concern. I read that for example Volkswagen has taken special measures for the 1.4 TSI engine that is used in their hybrids:
"A few examples: A polymer coating was applied to the main and connecting rod bearings; a coating of special hard materials was applied to the piston rings; and special modifications were made to the bearing shells and piston play."

I want to see acceleration test 0-100 km/h, braking test 100-0 km/h, "moose" test and fuel consumption compared to what the manufacturer say. And as a bonus wind noise at top speed on autobahn. :)
