Project Management Professional (PMP)® : Configuration Management : iZenBridge

What is Configuration Management? This includes a formal control change process. We begin with preparing a configuration management plan which tells us which all items are configurable.

A Developer is working on a package, he followed the plan and did everything as per the WBS and WBS Dictionary, shared the work package with quality control team. Quality Control Team rejected the work package, conveyed that it is not meeting the acceptance criteria as defined in the WBS Dictionary. This developer did an analysis of what went wrong and figured out that both of them are referring to 2 different versions of WBS Dictionary.
This scenario is experienced very often by the project team when different people are not on the same page. Such problems can be solved using a good configuration management system.
Configuration Management System ensures that everybody gets the same version. The first thing to do is to start with the creation of the Configuration Management Plan. This plan tells which all items are configurable. Configurable items mean you have various artifacts, plan, project documents, you want to be managed by configurable items.
