You dont Cut wood thats 28 30 inch with a 60cc saw.. You can but its going to put the saw to the max and it will also over work the saw... I own a few saws and to me if you do tree work you need 4 or 5 saws. 2 smalls 2 med 1 big. My smalls are 180 with the big tooth and a few other small saws battery makita and couple of older saws. My MID saws are 261 and 362 and my old trusty 036. My Big saws are 462 and 661. I like cutting trees and doing firewood. @@timberandtools after your video I think I am going to save my 100 dollars and buy a 362. Major upgrade from what I've ran my whole life
@@sethfrancis9821 if you are running an 024 then you wouldn't need a 400 or 362, go with a nice 311. It will cut circles around and 024 and cost A LOT less than a 400 or 362.
@@gwp1ohio the 024 was undersized majorly for what I really needed at times
The real question is how you got a 400 at all. I've been on a waiting list for a year here in the Pacific Northwest for a 400 and a 462. Totally unavailable.
Bought it a while back, I was at the dealer soon after they got it and saw it sitting there. Waited on the 500 for ever tho 😂
I just posted a picture online. Johnson's do it center in maple valley Washington have a 462,500i and 661
@@darrenpendergast6658 they’ll go quick
400 is very good Saw. The best Saw in 60-70 CC.
Without a doubt
Got 362 CM and i am very happy with it. If i wanted something stronger, i'd go for the 462 CM, not 400. And again, if i wanted to buy 4xx then i buy 462 over the 400.
Same would be true for me if I wasn’t able to make any other selections haha, you running a 20? Or 25?
@@timberandtools running mostly 20, sometimes the 25. But with the 20, i feel the saw got a right balance in hands.
Very steep hills area here, lots stones on the ground, boulders. Cutting mostly trees, that fell during storms, or simply trees on the ground already. Messy ground, mess of intertwined limbs. Shorter bar better for me, as with longer bar i keep hitting something that i dont want with the tip and getting kicks ... :-)
I love wood(s), take care!
@@t4t4s0l yes great balance with the 20” stay safe my friend 🌲👊🏻
Ive dont understand what the 400 is. I dont know who buys it. if you need a big saw we all DO Get a 462 or 500i.. If you need a saw for 18 to 22 inches get a 60cc saw 362 is a Beast for that stuff... You DONT need a 462 for 16 inch logs.. But when you need to cut up 22 24 inch hardwood. That 70cc stuff.. Wow... Just wow... You have NO idea until you get a sharp 462 buzzing.. its amazing.
@LiveFreeOrRIP 400 is really a firewood cutters dream saw. 12.8 lbs 67.8 cc and will handle a 25” bar very well. Can pull a 28” if needed not gonna do it super well but it will. I agree and loveeeee the 462 🔥😎
Merci pour votre avis.
C'est avec plaisir, j'apprécie que tu regardes
You need to go ahead and get a MS 500i because as we all know STIHL RUNS THE YARD 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿😊👍🏿#stihlpower
Oh heck yeah brother !! We got a 500 😎😎😎😎 I should probably make a video lol
@@timberandtools Wonderful Power saw, go ahead and make that video of the 500i. We all would love to see it.😊👍🏿#stihlpower
@@patrickpoulard24 will do!!!
You need both…
Can’t argue you on that one. I am happy to have em both 😂
You wouldn’t let up on throttle on 362 it would be closer
I’m not certain what you mean but believe me I run chainsaws everyday, there is a very big difference between the power of a 362 and a 400.
I just went and bought a 400 my buddy liked it better than his 362
Absolutely! They’re a wonderful saw! What size bar you running?
I just got a 362 for $300 cdn. needs repair. I thought about getting a400, the plastic handle is a put off for me.
Yes I agree! I believe the wrap or the artic handle is aluminum and can be put on the 400
my 362 has an arctic handle .I ope all it needs is a carb kit. Im thinking of putting a 16 inch bar on it, not any big wood here.
should cut very well.@@timberandtools
@@PhilHewkin oh she will ripppppp. I usually run a 20” on my 362
@@timberandtools I just got a Husky 550 xp m2. i only ran one tank of gas through it so far, but im impressed. If it works out, I may get a 400 stihl. My 290 is gettig a new gas tank, I did a tree removal and it fell about 35 feet. Tried to glue it twice. My 271 has a plugged gas tank vent filter. always something.
@@PhilHewkin yeah always something! I’ll tell you what, not a huge husky guy but the 550 is awesome! Don’t own one but I would if I got a decent deal on one 👊🏻 I have lots of 261’s though haha
60cc saws are Great for 18 20 inch hard wood. When you want to run a 25 or 28 or 32 you need to get into the 70cc saws in my opinion... The 462 cant be compared to a 800 60cc saw.. Especially when you put the WCSs upgrades on it. I own both and its kinda unfair to compare them. Like I said you dont use a sledge hammer to drive in average sized nails. I help a buddy sometimes do tree work if he needs. so im ready to tackle pretty much what ever comes. SMALL MID BIG is a good way to go. small 30cc mid 50cc 60cc and you need a 70cc saw.. there is nothing like the 70cc saws. 500i or 462. Those 2 are the wild card of saws. High RPM and High HP. The 661 will pull a bigger bar but its slow rpm wise. so unless you want to run a 36 or something 462 500i.
Yeah I agree 20” is good for 60cc I typically run 25” full skip so I don’t have to bend over as much to cut haha. I have a 462/500/660 and bigger saws. I have em all and yes they all have their spots. I NEVER compared the 462 to a 60cc saw though haha
m tronic is still carbureted
Technically yes but you know what I mean 😂
Saws are a little dull I believe
Chain was on the saw that came right out of the side of my tree truck haha, it wasn’t filed recently but cut fine enough to make a video…
As long as it works
I have both in M tronic
Great saws!! I don’t mind the m tronic. I’d prefer a carb but have no problem with the m tronic saws
I believe my ms310 with 24" bar stock will eat both of these up...
I will bet you any amount of money you wanted that it would not especially with the 400! Even if it the 310 was insanely ported I do not feel that it would stand a chance.
Keep dreaming.
@@timberandtools just from watching this video inparticular to his saws and chains... my 310 absolutely would. A lot more has to do with filing and operating than power.
@@gwp1ohio your correct about the filing. Videos don’t accurately show details.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I'm not knockin the ms310. I have one with a ported muffler and it's a solid firewood saw runnin a 20" bar. I've also have an ms441c the last 10 years and with the same 20" bar and chain the 441 smokes the 310. The ms441c is a not so great first attempt that stihl made their mtronic beginning with and its probably gonna cut close to what that ms400c does, but it also weighs like 4lbs more and is ridiculous to work on. The 400c will handily beat an ms310,all other things being equal.
Watching the video, barely a difference
Really surprised you see that in the video, if you were running them definitely big difference
