There were a whole lot of us 50yo+ rockers in the Pepsi Center that were in tears. Pau gave us a great gift singing this for us. We tried our very best to support her, finishing the song out for her. It is one of the most emotional memorable live music experiences I have had in 45+ years of concert going. BREATHE is on of the most impactful songs I have heard in decades. When I first played the album and heard it for this song as the last track, I stopped dead cold in my listening room. Mouth agape, holding my breath. Even watching all these reactions affects me. Such a special performance.
I was totally ecstatic to see that they are going to be performing at the 25th Latin Grammy awards. Not only are they performing, but they are nominated for best rock song of the year for the song Qué Más Quieres. I think that in the last couple of months I have seen indications that their label is treating them with a lot more sincerity. Don’t get me wrong, it seemed like they were doing a great job before, but now it looks like their efforts are going into overdrive. Maybe having the first artist on your label ever to be nominated for a Grammy at the Latin awards is a good thing to indicate the importance and the future of this band. Viva The Warning.
I'm 50+ like many of The Warning fan base (TWA), and while I have not been part of the Army as long as many others, I am still a member. That said, I have watched everything that I could that has been released by The Warning and by others, and this video (Breathe) is no different. I'm sure if I go back and check my history, I have seen this video a million times give or take a couple. The power of The Warning (and in this case, Pau), is that it doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, the emotions are real. In this case (as with other videos from them), I still tear up. And while the tears from this video are one thing, tears have also flowed by just watching how great they are - even though I know what's coming up, or what's happening, or it's otherwise no surprise - they are such a frigging joy watching these ladies. And one thing that came to mind when it comes to The Warning, is that no matter how many times you've seen the same video (over and over and over), their songs are like scriptures; how it may effect you today, it may effect you differently the next time. The power of The Warning.
Since you know what depression is like, these lyrics are going to hit a bit special for you. Upon its release, Pau described the song as a panic attack set to music. It perfectly describes the dark thoughts of loneliness, panic, anxiety, and helplessness one oftentimes feel when battling such disorders. Just look at her eyes when she sings "Perfect in pain its the same all the time" on the second chorus. If the eyes are the window to the soul, Pau's expression of pain cuts to the core.
So sick that they gave serious consideration to canceling the show, Pau tells all 8000 fans that her voice "isn't that great" ... and then proceeds to do THAT.
I had the same reaction. I don’t mind admitting that phenomenal young women brought a tear to my 74 year old eyes. I’ve been blessed to have never had depression but many of my family members have and I’m sure that Pau expressed that feeling as well as it can be! Sorry to hear about your car troubles! At my age if my feet hit the floor in the morning it’s a bonus, although I don’t buy green bananas 😎🤘🇺🇸
The next couple of months will be important to the warning because they are nominated for a Latin Grammy, EMTV push artists and will be performing at both shows but also they have a chance on being nominated for a US Grammy and if that happens thier popularity will soar
Good to see you back and with another TW reaction. When you get done with the Pepsi Center concert, checkout their stripped back songs at the Sofar Sounds gathering in London back in July. Keep on rocking and you've been warned!!
I'm not laughing, you're laughing. 🥲😂 I'm pretty sure her hand gesture while walking off stage was her fretting about the adverse effects of tears on her makeup. She knew she still had a lot of show left to perform. The first thing she did after burying her face in her hands was to dab gingerly at her eyes with trembling fingers. She's just a pro like that. 🤩
It's cathartic. I'm older than you (by just a year, lol), but I lost my wife 3 years ago. And I laugh while I cry to this song. I'm a total wreck every time, but it fills me with joy to hear someone sing what I'm feeling. I feel I'm not alone. How the Hell does someone so young capture these moments? I've still got some crying to do, but I'm still here and pushing through each day. ❤️⚡😭 Time doesn't heal all wounds, but it makes you respect them, if you pay attention.
I have paid attention to them since the beginning but I never imagined the real impact they would have on the world, or at least our world. The Warning is a lifestyle, not just a band. (Phish, Beatles, Kiss, Grateful Dead, The Warning)
Yes, I know that laugh, Pau got you.😢😭. The one, and only, time Breathe has been played live, not likely to ever be played live again. They needed another song for the 3rd album, Error. Nothing else was ready, so Pau gave it up with the condition that she never have to play it live. Sounds like it wasn't October, but more like s_*ktober. LOL. On to November....🤘🤘.
Can you imagine the lift Pau feels knowing that there are about a million hands ready to pull her up so that something down there doesn't get to pull her close?
Right there with you. If I don't laugh, I completely loose it. After hearing this more than 500 times, I can kind of control myself, but if the reactor starts to loose it, I will too.
No problem coping emotionally with laughter. I totally understand how that can manifest. This song/performance always creates either a lump in my throat or outright tears flowing from the ducts. She's generous enough to let emotions flow, so why not reciprocate with our own flow.
this Pepsi Center performance was the 3rd of the three 10th Anniversary concerts... they played the same performance in Guadalajara (Oct 21, 2023, Teatro Diana - 2500+), Monterrey (Oct 25, 2023, Pabellon M - 4500+), and Mexico City (Oct 28, 2023, Pepsi Center - 8000+)... all three performances had the same set list (with a notable difference or two), same costumes, same stage design and light show (or as close as possible for the venue)... they premiered *S!ck* and *Hell You Call A Dream* in Guadalajara and they had the 10-piece string sections with them at all three... the lighting was done by the same guy, Brian Bogovic, that does Halestorm's lighting... he had some free time that matched DPA/TW's schedule so they made things happen... somewhere is a BTS showing them working on the lighting programming and controls at the office before doing it all actually setup... very cool stuff... i saw all three performances via live fan cam streams and they were ... i mean, "WOW!" doesn't even begin to describe it... i remember the double surprise when *S!ck* and *HYCAD* were premiered in Guadalajara... and the surprise when the string section appeared out of nowhere for *Black Holes* and *Enter Sandman* was indescribable... Pau playing *Breathe* right after *Black Holes* here in Mexico City was a monstrous surprise to everyone watching... there were a lot more than 8000 pairs of eyes overflowing from that portion of the set... i fully enjoyed seeing them and only miss not actually being there... TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
*Breathe* a deeply felt panic/anxiety attack set to music... when Pau plays *Breathe* i can't because i'm 😿😿😿 idk how she gained possession of my soul in addition to my heart... i think we all know that when looking at a keyboard, any keyboard, through tear filled eyes, it is impossible to see the keys properly... (that's why this is a pre-written comment in a text file 😉) 🧅🥷 🧅🥷 🧅🥷 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
Dude, I'm older than you and I react the same as you did. I've seen this many dozens of times and every single time it gets me going. Everything about this moment is special.
Prior to Breathe Pau sang Black Holes a song she wrote at 13 after reading a letter from someone who was fighting addition. Following Breathe the sisters performance their reimagined Enter Sandman accompanied with a local orchestra''s string section.
So this isn't about depression. It is about helplessness that all young people feel who do not have the experience and skills to cope like Pau when she wrote this at fourteen or fifteen faced with real life sad personal situation and not knowing what to do but feeling lost and unable find a way or know if its ok to feel better. We all can relate to it.
*Breathe Backstory:* Lava Records wanted on more song to put on their album *"Error".* The girls didn't have another song. So Pau gave Lava Records *"Breathe"* (don't know when Pau wrote it) that Pau recorded at home on that same upright piano Pau doodles around while writing songs. According to comments (take with a grain of salt), Pau wrote the song after a friend of theirs committed suicide. She told Lava that she *WILL NOT PLAY THIS SONG LIVE.* Until the Pepsi Center show. *After "Breathe":* Pau got up from the piano & went back to her drum kit. Then the stage hands remove the piano. Before *"Breathe".,* Pau played a solo version of *"Black Holes"* with a all-female string assemble. Both Ale & Dany left the stage.before *"Black Holes".* After the string assemble was done with their introlude of the next song. Ale & Dany return to the stage walking & playing their instruments. The Warning did released the full Pepsi Center concert as a whole video.
If you can pull off being stoic during that performance, you're not human. Great reaction, my friend. My interpretation of the song, is it is the last justification someone uses to convince themselves they do not need to ljve anymore. They can't go on.
Sorry to hear about your crappy October! When it rains, it pours is definitely a reality sometimes. Glad you're pressing on and not letting yourself get mired in all the suck. Also glad you're getting professional help, as well. Sometimes we veterans (and a lot of people actually) think we can just tough it out and don't want to make ourselves vulnerable to a stranger, and only end up making things worse on ourselves. So you come back and jump right back into the deep end with 'Breathe'! Oof! LOL! She gets me every time. Every. Damn. Time. Pau is such a special little soul. I just can't with this girl. Great reaction. Dany also has an emotional acoustic solo performance at this concert with 'When I'm Alone', which resonates with those working through depression.
Hola amigo. The Warning nos une.
Thats a 1 time a day performance max, for mental health reasons. But in small doses it's helpful, proof they are like a antidepressant drug. Take as prescribed.
Yeah October had been mixed bag for moi too! Had troubles at work, got flu, but then had great trip (was still sick tho) Good luck! *HUGS* such a beautiful & powerful performance! should also check out Black Holes from same concert!
You couldn't hold your emotions in while watching this performance... Well, welcome to the club my friend. 🥲 If you are ready for an intense experience, go see them when they next play in Argentina, those crowds have insane energy and enthusiasm.
Possibly the most powerful and vulnerable performance I have seen in my 57 years.
Yeah man! (59)✌
Same for ne, and I'm 67. And I've been to hundreds of concerts.
Incomparable. Emotionally. Never played live before and certainly not in the future. That makes this performance LEGENDARY.
Pau is amazing .......🤟😎🖤⚡♨️🇲🇽
Paulina and a Piano, pouring her heart out, this is why we all love these amazing young women.
Paulina is a sweet soul and a little candle of dynamite! What a fantastic girl!
