- I've always used Lightroom for photo editing on the iPad but is that the best one out there? I take a look at Darkroom and Pixelmator Pro to see how they compare and if I'll be make a switch.

Is there an photo app where when I transfer an image from the main album to an album I created, that image will be deleted in the main album
You CAN batch edit in Lightroom. Copy settings. Select mode. Select all photos. Paste settings.
Thanks for the great review. LR is hard to catchup to with them being around for effectively forever :) But one step at a time we will get there. Someday.

I have been using darkroom for 4 months , and I am ditching LR for a while ... but still missing noise reduction, and texture , and clarity ... overall , the app is great and have great features ...
For me the selective edit is a deal breaker

Hey, I’m wondering if darkroom is too powerful for an iPad mini 5? Will it crash or can the iPad handle it?
For your Pixelmator photo portion of the review, you may want to talk about the ML (Machine Learning) button that does good chunk of the photo correction for you then you can add some final refinements on top of that. I have used ML a lot and helps with corrections significantly
In Lr you can select the settings you want to copy then select all the files you want to paste in, i do it with all my imported files.
About Darkroom i don't understand why supports only uncompressed raw files but not compressed.

Thank you for an easy to follow review.of these apps. I used to use Picasa and Windows Movie Maker. They were so intuitive for me! I had to step away from editing in 2008 and now I am struggling to find the tools I liked. For instance, erasing an area in a photo, finding unique borders, etc. Is there some app that is simiilar to Picasa? Thanks
Thank you for a great video and comparing the apps. Since you made this video Darkroom has been upgraded with some Ai masking tools which work great. It makes darkroom even closer to Lightroom. So I find myself using Darkroom more these days.

Aaron, lots of great points to consider, so thank you! If I may make a suggestion, check your audio feed and your final master. I was watching you on my home TV and the sound comes through my Atmos receiver. I couldn’t hear you at all when turned to the normal volume I watch TH-cam at. Like a idiot I crank the volume up and I’m so immersed in the video that when the commercial came on the sound lifted me and my cat and the house up just like Dorothy in the Wiz of O movie. When we both regained consciousness we were 2 states away and 6 videos further into your rotation. I had to go watch all 6 again because kitty said she wasn’t about that life. Anyhow, maybe a little adjustment of the levels would help some poor schmuck like me to not scare the pants off the FAA for fear of a larger than 55 lb unregistered drone hurtling across the Mason Dixon line. 😂 I do appreciate the videos. Much love and respect. ✌🏽

i would like to see an updated review in 2022, darkroom has now masking tools and many more features since a few months ago, im checking some reviews to see if its worth an 80 buck one time purchase but can’t decide yet

Do you know if it is possible to select and rate the images stored on an external HDD or SD card on the iPad, without having to import them to the iPad's memory?
Tried them all, after giving up LR. None came close to the FULL, cross platform functionality (mac, Windows, iPad, iPhone, and web) of the Adobe package. So went back to LR, and I do not regret it. $9.99 per month is not bad, given all you get from the Adobe photography plan.
Does darkroom have a smoothing effect option for videos?
The only reason why I haven’t left the lightroom is because of the select tool. It’s the only editing app out of these three that has that. It gives you total control of the colors in the photo post production when you have less control pre production. Downside is, it’s really laggy when you use it (using ipad pro 2020) and I would have jumped ship already if there’s another app that had that it.
Affinity photo has select tool if I'm not wrong..!!! And that's 1 time purchase only. Better than photoshop and lightroom I have heard, but don't know exact details, please check yourself, it might be useful for you.
A well-considered introduction and overview of each app... timely as yesterday I bought an iPad mini 4 and was keen to see what I can do with this little critter!
Mainly I was looking at on-holiday selections and basic editing-only apps for material that goes in my brother's blog each night - so not much to ask.
I am very likely to end up using Adobe as I am very comfortable with their products... My home setup is RAW into LightRoom CC on desktop and I will have a look at the mobile version of that and also have a look at Photoshop Fix too - none of these options will cost me anything as they are included in my plan... The only thing I have concerns about is exporting edited images (back on the SD card, if possible) to transfer to my brother's blog device...

I’m pretty new to photo editing. I’m looking to buy an iPad Pro soon. Was wondering what you would suggest would be the best app for airbrushing photos of people? Reshaping the subjects and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles...and all that.

I don't do much reshaping so I don't have a recommendation on that one but the apple pencil and lightroom adjustment brushes will do great for smoothing things out.

Any app similar to Photoshop Touch? I had the app in my android now I got an Iphone but sadly the app is not in the appstore anymore... and it was really easy to use for what I needed

Thx for your video, I would like to love pixelmator but as almost all the app they have for me a problem with shadow recovery, if you take Lightroom and pixel darkroom and you just use the slider of shadow you will see that so different than Lightroom look like luminosity or exposition for landscape photographer it s impossible. The only 2 app can do the job properly is Lightroom and affinity. I would like pixelmator update this.
They fixed that in the latest version, check it out..

I have a question I'm having trouble getting the answer to. If I start editing a photo that's on a external source in Lightroom on an iPad, does the program automatically copy the image to the internal drive? This is really important to me. One of the hallmarks of any good media editing program is media management. I'm mostly a film editor. I edit on Avid Media Composer. None of my media are on the internal drive. Always on a external (sometimes a client's) drive. It's part of media management. I really don't want to have 3 or 4 copies of my media. One and a backup is fine thank you.
Unfortunately, you can't edit off of an external drive. You do have to import the files to the iPad. Crossing my fingers they allow external editing in the near future!
Aaron, thanks for the reply. I was about to pull the trigger on one of the new iPad Air. It's too bad that Apple take one step with file access but not total. I envision just plugging a small USB-C thumbdrive into the iPad's USB-c port and being very mobile. It's going to keep the iPad's only good for small (in the case of 4k media VERY small) projects.
@@chrismv102 luckily they're starting to increase the base size, but part of me believes they limit this to a) make this some "amazing" new feature down the line, b) upsell
Too many things are subscription-based these days.
I immediately discount them no matter how good they are.
When you have amazing software such as the Affinity suite as a one-time purchase everything else just seems like a money-grab.

I really only use Lightroom and Darkroom these days. I'm not sure pixelmator is even on my ipad anymore so I'm probably not the best one to do a current review.
Why would you need photo editing app without a brush? its just useless What about polarr ?

LR CC sucks because of cloud storage. I don’t want everything on the cloud, and I want full rez images saved locally. Adobe lost me when they started doing this shut and making it hard to opt out of cloud storage.
I learned editing on Lightroom mobile.
Lightroom is much better but the price is 🤒

I hate the Adobe approach for subscribers only. Give me the option to buy an app completely and use it and that is it and make some system that when you have new futures charge for update whoever won't new futures he will pay and update those who do not need a new future or will continue using his app like normal why you are pushing people to pay monthly or yearly
In just 4 months darkroom became 50$ for owned version
I do need to start working on an update video. There have been some decent changes across the board. Crazy how fast things change.
