Until like a month before it was set to be published, a dev decided in his own time for his own amusement to do a little controller reconfig and allow him self to free walk and shoot thru what was other was a Time Crisis like game. And he found it exhilarating and so did every other member of the dev team when they saw it. and the choice to change became instant. This is why there are so many places where it LAAAAGS if you don't kill enough gaurds. game wasn't optimized to have all that on screen. and they really said fuck it its fun!

It's not a gong though. It was a cymbal or hi-hat played at incredibly slow speed. There's a video on TH-cam about it. I always thought it was a gong too until I saw how they did it.
I used to work in an electronic store and we had a Nintendo 64 demo machine with GoldenEye and it was played by people all the time and I think we had that thing for years because it was so popular. This version of the Bond theme brings back a lot of memories.
This played while the boys and me went to eat the pizza that my friends mom brought home for the slumber party. Then we watched South Park while falling asleep. And played paintball with our brass eagle tiger sharks the next day. 23 freaking years ago.

It’s not that companies no longer care about gamers, it’s about gamers no longer caring about the quality of the games they choose to spend money on. In the goldeneye days there was no “day 1 patch” to fix bugs and issues. If you’re game released and wasn’t ready to go, it tanked, and lost the company millions. Nowadays gamers will tolerate the worst of conditions on day 1 releases and still defend their purchase instead of holding developers accountable.
Man video games are so boring with their 40+ hours of content and new graphics and physics, blockhead enemies and three prong controllers with one analog stick are way better, our lives are so difficult now because all the mean video game developers hate UBER gamers like us
