Composed by David Wise. Recreated by me. This was made possible by locating the original instrument samples from workstation keyboards and drum machines before they were put into the game and rebuilding the soundtrack from the ground up, applying some modern mixing techniques along the way to lift the veil of 16bit compression and create an updated listening experience. Part of a project to restore the entire DKC series soundtrack. Follow me on Twitter for more updates: / princesamlet
    Sound sources:
Korg Wavestation (Synth Voice, Bass, Harmonica, Electric Guitar), Roland R-8 (Drums), Roland U-220 (Strings, Piano)

It takes me back to a time when my mom wasn't in the hospital and i had family left. To those warm summer nights when me and my mom would set down and play this together. I think i found my people. I'm 37 and I miss how simple our life was, how aweosme it was. We saw the birth of the internet. We also had street lights as our curfew, block parties where the neighborhood would close the street down and bring BBQ food and share and laugh. Now everyone is cold and distant. Kids rather be on their phones then riding their bikes and going into the woods. We had the last great time for a generation. Listening to this song has shown me that time is so valuable, 37 years in a blink of an eye.

Man this is a toast to us man.....I appreciate all my 30 plus peers commenting on this post.....it's crazy man, I remember being in 1st grade, my mom randomly came and picked me up early, she took me to this park by our house that was beautiful, then she took me home, told me to set up my nintendo and she sat next to me and played this......I will NEVER EVER forget that day in my head as long as I live and the feeling I got when we got to this level and I looked up at my mom and she smiled and was like oh I love this song......I know we can't live in the past, and time waits for no man, but it becomes so surreal to me when I play this now, you cant TELL me that was 28 YEARS AGO! now I have a 7 year old daughter who likes to play this with me, and ask me qustions when I was a kid.. its truly surreal.....Godbless all of you guys, I hope all your lives are going well sincerly...

@@KingNez89 We cant live in the past, but we were blessed to have lived those good moment in our life which will be always with us. I used to play snes games with my grandpa, an old guy that was so fascinated by technology and when i left the console here he just keep playing that games on and on, it feel like yesterday whan i was in his home playing yoshi island. I remember playing with my mom mario 64 and killer instict, i was so scared by that game that i locked myself in my room but she would convince me to play it with her lol.
We gotta pass those memories, and create the same with our kids or future kids. Life may be scary and too fast, but it's worth for living those great moments, especially now that we know how precious they are.
I would give everything to pass an afternoon with my grandpa and yoshi again, and i wished i passed more time with him when i was a teenager. I really didnt realized his time on earth was so limited.
God bless you and your daughter bro, she will remember those moment with you with joy for all her life :)

I remember running home from school, I was at the first grade and made a new friend who happened to own DKC. We would play this game for hours.
Now I'm sitting here, almost 30 years after, with my 4-year old son, and just enjoying this masterpiece. The Donkey Kong -series and the soundtracks have already become a bonding experience for me and my son. These are the new memories that I will come back to 30 years from now, hopefully giving my son the same nostalgia that I got.

There is so much out there left to explore and the simplicity of life is still here it just sometimes doesn't feel like it. Used to play this with my dad as a kid, lost a bit of contact lately.
This song makes me think about times where no sorrow troubled our relationship. As a kid my biggest concern was gettin this monkey through this twisted dangerous ocean. Now this song makes me realize that i and so many other people are stuck in the same maze like ocean in which we feel like drowning but arent actually. The Surface will appear someday and we will one day pull ourselves out of this dark sea but til then i keep helping this monkey on a fish tryina get his bananas back

Maybe im too nostalgic but i miss bein a kid, waking up at 10am on a Saturday and playing MW2 or World at War, nobody expecting me to do shit and be productive. Goin out with friends and hanging at bandos or chillin in big groups at parks or parkinglots. It’s good to explore it and define what exactly you think might cause you to feel you’ve forgotten, I’ve had that same feeling when going through big changes, but I also think even if you can’t pinpoint what you may have forgotten, you can maybe acknowledge that it was a good time and as crummy and bland modern times can be, it’s on our own ability to create new memories, new nostalgias

I’m 37 years old now.. this music instantly gets me emotional. DKC1 and DKC2 were the only 2 games that ever really impressed my father. I sat in my room and played games from when I was 5, until pretty much when I moved out. My father never came into my room and actually watched me play any of my games during all of those years…. But …. These 2 games? He was fascinated. He couldn’t get over the music, and the graphics. I felt such intense happiness when he would watch me play these games. I’d go through each level with a smile on my face. Out of the thousands of gameplay / music videos I’ve watched on TH-cam, this particular game / music is the one that makes me cry. My father’s been gone for almost 12 years now, and I have 2 sons of my own, a 2 year old and a newborn. I’m going to make sure I spend so much time with my kids, and show interest in their hobbies. My father didn’t show very much interest in mine, or spend much time with me. I know I’ve gone a bit deep with this comment, but that’s how good this game was, and still is to me. It reminds me of that intense happiness I had while playing it. It reminds me of my father. This single game holds so much power over me. I absolutely need to get a retro pi set up with emulators, just so I can relive those days. 😢

This song reminds me of how lonely my life has been. And how beautifully painful a life of loneliness can be. There can be beauty in pain, sadness and loneliness. I played this game a ton when I was young and didn't realize the beauty of the soundtrack. I'm in my late 40's now ( time flies by so quickly) and it's cool to rediscover (or discover in my case) music like this from our childhoods.
    Good times.
