I don't know who posted about it first, you or me, but that doesn't matter. The important thing is: WE'RE RIGHT! Fact is, Yunalesca's giant, messed up 'pet' was the hardest thing to look at in the game. Aside from it's grandiose entrance, watching the head bounce/convulse like it was gasping for air and clinging to life made the entire time you fought it unnerving. And when it uses Mind Blast the camera would go from wherever it was to suddenly zooming in on that head making the creepiest wide open smile with a blinding flash of light that made me think the first time she did it that I had actually been turned to stone. Not my party, ME, sitting at home playing the game. To this day I wish Square had dialed it back when they designed it. Knowing that it's waiting for you in Zanarkand still gives me the creeps.
Creepiest thing in FF for me was not a monster but rather a situation. When Jenova escapes from Shinra Building, you wander around with the eerie music, everybody is dead, and guards are replaced by monsters in random battle. The scene still give me chills.

I ran into Calcabrina in FFXIV shortly after binge watching some FNAF videos. Not having played the older games, I thought it was a pretty cool boss. One of the DPS was clearly not having it however and was freaking out the entire fight. Made everything a little more epic. :D
The unknowns in FFVII didn't bother as much as the Ghirofelgos in the Shinra Mansion. They weren't hard, but it was a bit creepy and sad when they fell off the blades and then struggled to get back up due to their lack of legs. The thought of how they got like that also disturbed me a bit.
Final Fantasy IV again : Spoiler for Tower of Bab-Il The King and Queen of Eblan. Edge's parents transformed into horrible monsters by the mad scientist Dr Lugae and awaiting death. Which they will receive from their own sons. It's a really easy battle, but that just makes it worse. It's absolutely tragic.

I can say that with confidence considering I am a father, I will never wish harm to my child, if I had to die for him to live I would skip to the gates of hell, and I would prefer someone I knew to end me were I in such a state. Just going to throw in the Phantoms from Final Fantasy The Spirits Within. Something about ancient invisible ghost aliens that can pass through solid objects and pull your screaming soul out of your body when they come into contact with you... Always found those terrifying.

Dylan Volckaert I think it has a lot to do with how well laid out the story arc to get there was. I understand that some people didn’t like/didn’t follow the 13 trilogy story, but to SE’s credit they doubled down on writing for the dedicated fans for 13-2 and LR. If you were dedicated the pay off with that fight was amazing. He felt like a being of the power he was depicted as.

Exdeath tree form looks kind of like the one phase of Zeromus in a way. Actually, I think Zeromus could have been at least an honorable mention (unless you were going with a one per game rule and couldn't put it because of Calcabrina). On the other end of the spectrum, I'm not sure I agree with Gerogero. It's a bit creepy but it was also one of those bosses you could just throw a phoenix down at, so you only had to endure the creepiness if you chose to.
Surprised tree Exdeath was mentioned instead of Neo Exdeath As for my personal pick, or rather picks- Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: 10 man trial bosses, their second forms are ff final boss level of grotesque, like Ultimacia, Neo exdeath, and I'm sure there are a few more I was not expecting this design quality in a mobile game
Neo Exdeath is about 100 times creepier than true form. I'd at least feel like I'd have a slim chance fighting a living tree. I'd straight up shit my pants if I was staring down Neo Exdeath and I was told, "alright take him down". Fuck that lol
Jenova (FFVII) creeped me out as a child. Sin (FFX) gave me nightmares and he still unnerves me to this day. Nagas (FFXV) are also very creepy especially if we take the lore into account.

The rogue axemen are the most evil enemies I’ve ever come across. See, I thought I had their little game figured out. Look for the ones on the floor with glowing eyes. They’ll be the ones to grab you, so I prepared myself as I stepped over one and....nothing. Then one that was completely dead attacked me instead and I nearly pissed my pants. I hated those things and that’s why chapter 13 was amazing. It made you feel as vulnerable as you were supposed to be.

I actually had a nightmare about Calcabrina the night I first did that dungeon in FFXIV. I dreamed that I was in a park not far from my house in the middle of the night, and it was pitch black and I was surrounded by those little dolls. I could hear them, and I knew they were out there, but I couldn't see them. I actually had a second nightmare about Calcabrina some time later, but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't remember exactly how that one went.
Calca and Brina is nothing compared to Tonberries. First time i encountered one of them i went through what is called The 5 Stages of Tonberry 1, delight - aw that`s adorable. look at it`s diddy widdle legs and cute hoodie 2, suspicion - wh... why is it moving so slow? Why`s not doing anything? Something feels off. 3, dread - um... it`s getting closer. What`s it doing? Why is it not dead yet? I`m scared 4, despair - ARRRGHH! Help me! It`s killing everyone. 5, resolve - Well that went really badly, next time will be different.
I love that you mentioned FF XIV. I really wasn't expecting that. I'mma agree with your list. However, FF XIV Shadowbringers just came out...and you should make another one of these and put Lord Vauthry on the list. The whole scene where you're going to confront him is terrifying and he himself is very disturbing. Especially the story behind that whole cutscene.
Oh yes... as well as how the Sin Eaters increase their numbers... initially, the entire process wasn't going to be hidden behind a bunch of wings and camera shifts, but we would see the full horrible transformation... I want to see that, just so I can say "You see this?! THIS is what we are fighting against, not the ones who are already turned, but the process in which this happens!"
you should do a vid about the most absurd enemies. like in ff7 when you fight a tricerotops with wheels for legs or that monster that was a house, or the sentient motorcycles. or the squirrels nutters in ff5. or in ff8 when you encounter demon hockey players during the Balamb Galbadia garden battle. you can do a bunch of woodland critters too. its so strange to see Cloud fighting a frog barely as big as clouds boot and it still puts up a decent fight even though your team are a bunch of experienced and talented warriors by the time you run into them. theres also a cat enemy in FF5 that has somehow fashioned wings out of leaves. Theres just an insane amount of WTF things you fight sometimes.
The ones that actually scared me as a kid: Intangir in FF6. Not the actual behemoth sprite, but how it appeared from vanish scared me. Doom Gaze in FF6 because of the jumpscare while flying airship lol. Emerald Weapon in FF7 just... hovering there in the submarine parts.
Lets not forget that the first demon wall on 12 also has x zone that basically auto kos a character with no way to bring them back untill the battle end
Not mentioning Hades is onbarod of the Gelinka was a mistake, the God of death and Lord of the underworld being aboard a plane that's filled with abominations is just the icing on the cake and perhaps eludes to how they were created.
I can agree with the Calcabrina one since I hate dolls, especially porcelain ones. I was literally screaming throughout the fight in FFXIV when I have to do their mandatory dungeon, and it amused my FC members so much that they arranged a casual dungeon run of the place on Halloween... Not cool, guys!
Very an increased creepy factor for Anima see Anima/Animus complex in the analytical psychological field to get more insight into the meaning of the top/bottom forms of Anima as well as further character development for Seymore and his mother.

That wasn't Hojo with injected cells. That is a two headed mob I believe you fight in Shinra Mansion.
Hojo does inject himself in the story though.
I love that you mentioned FF XIV. I really wasn't expecting that. I'mma agree with your list. However, FF XIV Shadowbringers just came out...and you should make another one of these and put Lord Vauthry on the list. The whole scene where you're going to confront him is terrifying and he himself is very disturbing. Especially the story behind that whole cutscene.
Oh yes... as well as how the Sin Eaters increase their numbers... initially, the entire process wasn't going to be hidden behind a bunch of wings and camera shifts, but we would see the full horrible transformation... I want to see that, just so I can say "You see this?! THIS is what we are fighting against, not the ones who are already turned, but the process in which this happens!"

you should do a vid about the most absurd enemies. like in ff7 when you fight a tricerotops with wheels for legs or that monster that was a house, or the sentient motorcycles. or the squirrels nutters in ff5. or in ff8 when you encounter demon hockey players during the Balamb Galbadia garden battle. you can do a bunch of woodland critters too. its so strange to see Cloud fighting a frog barely as big as clouds boot and it still puts up a decent fight even though your team are a bunch of experienced and talented warriors by the time you run into them. theres also a cat enemy in FF5 that has somehow fashioned wings out of leaves. Theres just an insane amount of WTF things you fight sometimes.
Hojo's transformation was not the Yen Yang it was Heletic Hojo

The ones that actually scared me as a kid: Intangir in FF6. Not the actual behemoth sprite, but how it appeared from vanish scared me. Doom Gaze in FF6 because of the jumpscare while flying airship lol. Emerald Weapon in FF7 just... hovering there in the submarine parts.
Lets not forget that the first demon wall on 12 also has x zone that basically auto kos a character with no way to bring them back untill the battle end

I can agree with the Calcabrina one since I hate dolls, especially porcelain ones. I was literally screaming throughout the fight in FFXIV when I have to do their mandatory dungeon, and it amused my FC members so much that they arranged a casual dungeon run of the place on Halloween...
