I think Flan deserve a mention as they encourage the player to use magic more when they are at a point in the game where just spamming the attack command usually works.

Out of all Tonberries, the one that caught me offguard most are the ones in FFXV. I knew it was lethal, but I didn't expect it to randomly have a lightsaber and jump all over the place like Yoda.

      Modern Idolatry
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
      -Colossians 3:5
People get excited about a lot of things. They may not call them their gods, but in effect they are. What is the focus of your life? That, for all practical purposes, is your god.
And when you come up with your own version of God, then you essentially have another god before Him.
The apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Colosse, “So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming”
      (Colossians 3:5-6)
Interestingly, Paul talked about sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. We have a sex-obsessed culture. And for some people, everything is a double entendre. Their minds are always in the gutter.
Paul also warned about greed. Some people always want what others have. We might think that only those who are wealthy have a problem with idolatry. Maybe they do. And maybe they don’t. We can’t see their hearts.
But we can have very little in terms of material possessions and still make an idol out of things. We don’t have to be wealthy. Sometimes we’re simply obsessed with money.
The Bible says, “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows”
      (1 Timothy 6:10)
Notice this doesn’t say that money is the root of all kinds evil. Rather, it says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. The problem is always wanting what others have. We can make idols out of possessions. And they can become more important to us than God Himself.
The Bible says, “You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him” (Matthew 4:10).
He will never disappoint you. He will never let you down. But every person will in some way.
Sometimes people keep us from God. A relationship pulls us away from Him, and we realize that if we really follow the Lord, we could lose our relationship that individual. Yes, we could. And it might be a choice that some of us have to make.
Is someone dragging you down spiritually? Jesus said, “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine”
      (Matthew 10:37)
The gods we create in our minds really are not gods at all. They’re just false images that can’t do anything for us. Will those gods save you in that final day? Will those gods give you the strength you need in your moment of crisis? And will those gods forgive you of your sins?
If not, they’re false gods. Turn to the true and living God.

The FFXV couerl were AWFUL. The ones in the semi-online game Comrades were also very awful. I remember me and one guy were the only ones still running a mission (someone had gone offline halfway through and I think the low player count meant that the fourth person of the party was an NPC...and were rather useless). He and I got to the end of the mission with the final part being these two couerls. We managed to kill one, but sadly, despite us getting in a pretty good rhythm with healing and reviving each other, the damn beasts bested us. I never did beat that mission because I never had people strong enough to run it with.

One of the first monsters I think of when I think of Final Fantasy are Behemoths. There's nothing ground breaking about a big monster with a lot of health that does a lot of damage, but Behemoths just feel like the absolute pinnacle of this type of monster design. They can really feel overwhelming depending on the game and the point in the game that you face them, and their visual design (despite having changed several times) never fails to feel intimidating and powerful. They really feel like forces of nature that must be respected even in these worlds of supernaturally powerful warriors.

Say what you want about FFII - I certainly have at times - but the monster designs it introduced really gave Final Fantasy its own identity. One that's kinda hard to pin down, but you definitely feel it each time you get a random encounter in subsequent titles.

One detail I like about Malboro in other FF games is that in Crystal Chronicles, if you leave your little crystal chalice on the ground during the boss fight against him it's possible that Malboro can suck it up thanks to the move Inhale, your only protection against the toxic air that is all over the world. In FFX-2 and FF12, the Malboro have had interesting ways of how it moves about. In FF12 when you see them in the forest, before they can even attack they have to turn itself into battle position before dare trying to strike and it's very speed or trying to catch up to the player can be terrifying especially when there's hordes of them in every area of the room. In FFX-2, as soon as you begin Chapter/Episode 3 if you go back to Bevelle and watch a cutscene that for whatever reason is optional and not story required, once the cutscene nearly finishes you witness a Random Malboro sneak up from behind and move at a very alarming speed. How a Malboro's moves in terms of pacing is something that changes per game based on the suspension of disbelief and it's only thanks to later games we can see them move around.

The fight against the Malboro in FFXV was great in my opinion - that enemy was already notorious and seeing the party struggle to fight it was stressful, but then newly-blind Ignis coming in with the clutch truly felt like a hugely triumphant moment. I don't think it would have worked as well with a lesser known enemy.

Behemoth for me, has always been an important monster. It's a Signifier that you're nearing, or already in, the end game. Similar to the iron giant enemy. They only really appear when the game thinks you've played enough to be challenged. But out of all the behemoths appearances. None have been more devastating, more soul crushing, more awe inspiring, than when it was in Monster Hunter World. I played the game consistently until the behemoth was added. I was so excited. Awesome armor and a badass kinsect glaive were attainable. But not for me. I played for roughly a week when it came out only to NEVER beat the thing. Apparently no one was beating it during that time. I wasn't a very skilled hunter on my own, and most people I seemed to get paired with never understood the meteor mechanic so wipes were frequent and fast. Gives me chills thinking about it.

Marlboro makes me screech every time I see one, I haaaaate Bad Breath so much. Freaking Aurum Vale, GRRRRR!
But Tonberries, omg, they were my absolute nightmare in FF7, after a while I'd just run the heck away, I just didn't want ANY of that. When I hit the dungeon in FF14 where Tonberries are the major monsters and stars of the show, I was literally shivering throughout my first run, and screamed at least a dozen times, startled by the big tonberry that you can't kill in there. My brother was highly amused, rotten thing! Haha!
Cactuars are so weird, but I'd got cocky about those because in FF7 I farmed them a lot while leveling materia... and then I got thumped by some bigger ones in a dungeon and I wasn't laughing anymore, you can bet! I'd never seen Ahriman before FF14, I don't think? And bombs are just "wtf!" haha - but..I think I STILL have never fought a Behemoth! I recall finding a location in FF14 where one supposedly spawns, a FATE or something, but I've never even seen one in the game. Only the wee baby minion version!

I know Cactuars are described as being in a running man pose, but I would like to know is if their shape also meant to represent the svastika? In the religious sense, I mean.
I know that in some Asiatic religions and regions it is a symbol of good luck.
So is that the reason why if you are able to beat them you're rewarded with excessive amounts of exp and/or money? Even in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Cactuars are the endemic life that reward you with the most Research points if you catch them. Especially the rare flowering variant.
