You know what is really cool, I just saw an interview that Ellen DeGeneres gave where she mentions seeing an astrologer when she was younger, who told her around the age of 45 she might start a show and the show would last about 20 years. She was 45 when she started her talk show and it has run for 19 years. I am so curious who the astrologer was. I thought that was so interesting though. She said at the time she was skeptical because 20 year runs for sitcoms were so unlikely and she hadn't even considered a talk show yet, at the time she had the reading.
One should always use more than one natal chart to test if an astrological predictive technique works whether ancient or modern. Sometimes the modern predictive techniques were not known in the distant past, so ancient techniques become obsolete or replaced with modern ones. For example; The planetary cycles. I use the cycles of the planets through the twelve houses for career like in John Townley's book, the Astrological Life Cycles. He uses the twelve year Jupiter cycle for success. Looking at Robert Downey's chart in 2008, he has Jupiter in his fifth house which represents expansion in entertainment, show business, acting, self projection and attention, creative self expression, etc. Uranus is in his eighth house of other peoples money. Jupiter moves into his 6th house of work in 2009.
Townley wrote that the Jupiter was the opportunity cycle and Saturn the career cycle. He used pretty much traditional astrology, but this book was for the general public. but the advanced level astrologer still would find it useful who also includes the transit aspects to the natal planets. I bought it a long time ago. What I found was interesting was what he wrote about Jupiter transiting the ascendant and first house. One appears new to everyone and he thought that was where the top of success was in the Jupiter cycle.. I have not researched that idea though. He has a business partnership synastry interpretations in the back.
