It definitely sounds like it's about a supernatural being/our obsession with the supernatural. I'm guessing the "soft fuzzy man" is referencing how pictures of the supernatural are usually blurry. The only times you're allowed to interact with him are when you're vision is blurry I.e "Please baby step into the mist", "I know it sounds crazy, but once you go hazy you'll understand" so it might support my point
