an Iconic railway place with Iconic trains and Iconic sound from locomotives' s horns !!! just missing the Iconics EMD F7 from the 60 's !!!... thank 's and hello from Lyon France
Hello from Zimbabwe. Great video. Quite sure the passengers treated to the detour became die hard Amtrak riders! American railroading always a colossal spectacle. Enjoyed train spotting around Rochester NY as an international college student during the Conrail era.
In December 2017 the Thomas fire burned from Santa Paula to west of Santa Barbara CA. The fire didn't affect the trains, but the later winter storms and mud-slides in Santa Barbara shut down the Pacific Coast Line for a couple weeks. The Coast Starlight normally runs from L.A., along the coast to Oakland, then turns east to Sacramento, then north to Seattle - or the reverse. Because the coast line was shut down the trains were detoured south to Bakersfield, then east to Mojave, then south through Palmdale and the San Fernando Valley to L.A. Railfan-439, Pacific Coast Route, M.P. 404.5, Oxnard, CA.
#14 was led by GE P42DC Locomotives #12 & #206. it is an absolute treat seeing those two magnificent beasts hauling #14 over the famous Tehachapi Pass. Major Props go to Amtrak!!!
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that "DETOUR" was the stuff of dreams for rail fans on that AMTRAK! I've wondered why I never saw one "Do the Loop", but I understand now, being a "AVGEEK" first and foremost, but know trains to a lesser degree, I'm learning watching videos. Great work, keep them coming, I'm subbed!
One of the best videos! That's the first passenger trains I've seen go thru The Loop and I grew up in Bakersfield though I live in San Luis Obispo now. That's so cool. Now I will be watching for the next time the Coast Starlight gets re-routed so I can ride The Loop. That's great that you also included the freight trains.
My question is, how did the Coast Starlight get through Sacramento, after arriving from Bakersfield? Did the train reverse and back into Sacramento? My memory of the Sacramento area is a train arriving from Oakland, as the Starlight normally does, can continue North directly by turning Left and a train heading for Bakersfield, turns Right. . . . can somebody explain what happened in this situation? A very RARE deviation indeed, and some nice viewing, thank you for the video.
Enjoyable video! Only one glitch that I could see. You had the Amtrak passing by the old station in Bakersfield and then you "took us back" to Tunnel 2. Huh?
This certainly was a great adventure! How many cameras did you have to use to record it like that? The quality of the track at 01:57, with the engine moving as if a boat on wavy waters! Ever more trainspotters, such as those from 06:57, now that video cameras are just everywhere - and cheaper than peanuts! The dude on the pink bike at 09:51 - the recklessness!
Ummmm, the "DUDE" @ 9:51 was not a "dude". And I don't care what nobody say, if I'm on a bike, or walking, and the train is sitting there, or moving that slow and I can make it across no problem, I'm going for it. In a vehicle, gate down, no, but WALKING, or BICYCLE? STop lying saying you never have done it. My time is valuable, and I'm not standing in heat or cold because a train is just SITTING at intersection. Nuff said, my opinion.
Beautiful photography! - you found some excellent vantage points and took some great shots here! I am impressed with the lucky railfans who got to ride the private car for this monumental passage. Does anyone know if Amtrak still runs private cars for individuals?
I’m one of those lucky rail fans on the back porch of the private car and filmed the trip from Mojave to Bakersfield that’s on the front page of my TH-cam channel as stated in my comment above. They still allow private rail cars , but you can’t ride on the back porch of them anymore. The new Amtrak president banned it a couple weeks after this trip took place. I was fortunate to film my video from there before the ban went effect. They cited safety, but I was told by the car owner that there hadn’t been a back porch incident on a private rail car in the USA since the early 1980s. The back porch is a huge selling point of a private car and they took that away from us.
@@Cal90208 Possibly so. Of course, we're failing to realize in the description that the train was diverted for 3 consecutive days. It makes more sense that he would've been in different areas over those 3 days, which would be no problem for a train lover. I live in Bakersfield. That's what I would've done if I knew about it. Take my time and get the best arrival shots.
@@4seeableTV By diverted for 3 consecutive days, he just means that for three separate days, trains took the different route. Not one train took three days to take that route

Very disappointed. You titled it "tehachapi", not so much. 1 minute and 45 seconds out of a 19 minute and 40 second video was the loop, and not very much of the loop. This bordered on clickbait. It was interesting to see the privately owned rail car on the end. Way to much time on the freights when the video was titled Amtrak. Maybe you should have called it "railroading in the tehachapi area." Other than that, lots of good shots.
Entire video takes place on the Tehachapi Pass. Over 3/4 of the video is of Amtrak. Nowhere does he mention the loop as being the main point of the video. Enough said.

I wondered why the detour.
I took it from San Jose to LA once. It was awesome.

Rode the Coast Starlight in 2019 as part of the Northern Rail Amtrak vacation package round trip from Baltimore. Needless to say it was fabulous
I could live the rest of my life just riding the Coast Starlight.
That was a long Amtrak! Very cool shots!
Yea great catches with good cenary with some freights and the coast starlight
I was on that train with AMTK 12 and AMTK 206 up front!
How was it?
What a great compilation video with such amazing scenery.
Great Video, thanks for sharing this wonderful video

Superb video!
Gotta love those p42s was on the cal zephyr sept 2013 love them ❤
Beautifully shot.
Great catch video new friend! Greeting from Vietnam.
Awesome video!
Hey, check out the water tank car at 18:51 for maintenance of way on an old siding!! That is really cool !
That light green wagon at 18:52 is present at least since June 2012!
It's a shame Amtrak can't use this regularly.
Wow awesome video great shots of Amtrak
super great video
The superliner cars look so shiny

R.I.P. Pacific Parlour.
Did they run over Altamont or go by the way of Martinez, or just head straight to Sacramento?
Sehr gute Aufnahmen Danke für die schöne bilder bitte mehr da von 👀📽⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It would be interesting to know at what point along this journey did it meet back up with its original route?
I can't picture that.

Speed limit on the loop anyone?

Que modelo de locomotivas tracionam esses trens de passageiros?!?
I Love this trains union pacific is my Favorit
Does this mean that the tehachapi line is used solely for freight trains, with living in Australia am not sure of the situation with your railways.
Generally, yes.
Many decades ago there were more passenger trains over The Loop. The only reason these trains were there was because their coastal route had issues.
How badly were they delayed?
How do you keep up with the train, meaning how you are always ahead of the train?
Just find out it’s schedule and drive to make sure your at least 5 minutes ahead of it
@@Cal90208 But wouldn't the train always be faster in most cases?

why it was detouing by the way nice video
TROLLEYFAN 2052 Well it normally travels along the coast but went through here due to track work on the coast.
Needs to be daily service. Why should we have to take buses.
Totally agree! They have done double tracking at the Tehachapi Loop sk there is no excuse now.
My god so little ground clearance.
I will get you a model train Michael
