I bought a Brigand and measured its hardness and it comes in at Rc 61.2 and it is obviously a higher grade of D2. I'm using a table mounted machine in a machine shop btw, but nice to see a knife reviewer using a hardness tester. I am not big on Chinese D2 as much of it has very messy out of tolerance elemental analysis. Luv Them Knives channel runs a chemical analysis on differing blades and D2 with .23% to .40% vanadium, nominal is .85% +-.20% tolerance!
So one thing about D2 is that having close to .85-1.00% vanadium you'll get vanadium enriched Chromium carbides that are 81 Rc hardness in addition to about 12-15% #2 Chromium carbides @ Rc76 with the 1.55% carbon and the molybdenum in the matrix to ensure you get more #2 CrC instead of #1 CrC @ Rc72. My Brigand's D2 cuts .030 dense poster board and it takes quite a bit to dull the edge a little. 14C28N at Rc60 barely gets through 40 inches before it starts deforming.
I just purchased my first Civivi, I went with the elementum, now I want ever version they offer, it's a fantastic knife!
I love that you do a Rockwell test. A lot of ppl think Rockwell test don't matter. But a good Rockwell of 60 or higher has better edge retention. Great video
Comprehensive review as always, thank you 👍
This was my first Civivi, loved it then got the elementum. I carry this one way more. My buck knives seem so obsolete now.
I've got the elements, backlash and Brigand.
Yes, civivi are defo upping their game. I've got knives 2-3 times more expensive than these range and wouldn't believe the same quality.
Great review Wes. I’ve been on the fence with this one. I really like the overall design but there are a few glaring issues that you point out which are deal breakers for me. Have a fantastic evening my friend.
Thanks Matt! They have so many models, always looking forward to what they have around the corner. I’m hoping they start adding in better steel options.
Excellent review. I really like the brigand.
nice reviewl
GREAT review, thankyou. 🤝✌️🔪
I love the Civivis and have a whole bunch of them. But I don’t have the. Brigand...lol. It’s just a little bigger than I like, but great review anyways.
What do you think abot this vs the Civivi Elementum in blackish copper. And while am at it, the WE Banter? I love Cu, so i sure would like the Cu Elementum, but it comes in D2 steel vs the Elementum in Jade Green G10 Transparent in CPM-35VN? 😊
All three are good knives. The Brigand is bigger than the Elementum or Banter. I prefer the Brigand. If you like thumb studs go with the Banter. The Brigand has a model with copper handles that looks cool. Take a look at the Dogma in copper as well, I like it better than the Elementum and Banter as well.
@@ThePocketPerspective, whow, thanks bro. 🙏👍😊
If it breaks in more it should drop shut without any shaking
My other one drops shut a little better, but it’s out on loan.
