    This shaman is my number one. I put an mxg deep carry on it…mostly just for concealment at first but it really opened up the ergonomics, too. The micarta shamans are probably the most comfortable knives in use I’ve run across. The Manix is up there too but it’s more of a “locked in”, “rock steady” ergonomic where the shaman just becomes part of your hand. I know there’s a bit of a backlash going on against the shamans because of the hype train, availability and secondary market prices…but this is one of those cases where I feel like the hype is justified. It’s just such a pleasure to use

    Have always loved the Shaman. Lost mine fishing several months ago. Waiting for shops up here to re-stock. Seems all versions except for serrated ones are sold-out everywhere in Canada. Eagerly waiting for brown micarta and cru-wear PM2. Have a great day Wes. Great review as always.

    Great review wes! Such a treat that you can rockwell test for these reviews, really adds a great informative edge on these. I got mine in the mail, and am trying to decide if it's a keeper. It's a great knife for sure, love the ergonomics. Just not sure I want it for the money compared to other knives. It definitely seems like an indulgence knife as I don't really need a hard user. Love the scales though..

      Yeah, it’s definitely a luxury if you aren’t using it everyday. Great heavy duty work knife.

    Thanks for such an awesome review! You did a terrific job! Finally, I know the corresponding Rockwell Hrc for the ZWear PM Shaman! I live in West Ukraine and just got mine yesterday! I own a s90v version in CF, that’s my true favorite Shaman but this one in ZWear is a keeper as well! By the way, ‘Zwear’ sounds like ‘Zver’’ (зверь) in Russian or ‘Zvir’ (звір) in Ukrainian languages which means ‘Beast’) so this version is a rare beast after all. With respect, Andrey!

    I love the smell of fresh micarta. Every ESEE knife I’ve ever purchased smelled amazing out of the box. Thanks for the review. I was able to snag one from the DLT drop so it will be my first Shaman.

      It’s an acquired smell. I think it’s great and a bit comforting knowing I just got some fresh Micarta.

    Just got mine and I’m pretty impressed by these. From what I’ve seen, it seems like Spyderco had the A team working on these. I’m not very picky in general with knives out of the box and with the one I got, I can’t really find anything to be picky about with the fit, finish, or grinds. Spyderco seems to be great with their heat treat these days but I have to say I was very pleased to see yours come out at 64.5ish on the Rockwell scale! Great thorough review, now time to put this Shaman to the test!

    I just ordered some black 2-56 3/16” T-8 button head screws from USA Knife Maker which are slightly longer than Spydercos factory clip screws. They work well for aftermarket clips which are slightly thicker than factory clips. I also ordered some black 1/4” T-6 screws as well. They sell in bags of 25 for about $7 each and shipped out super fast.

    I got the green M4carta version that dropped last month. From what I’ve seen; Spyderco does a great job with their M4. This thing just CUTS and CUTS. Lovin it so far!

    It’s my favorite knife and I love it! And as far as tuning goes I managed to get mine as perfect for myself as I could and it drops shut on its own now and flips open buttery smooth! I also swapped my g10 scales for flamed titanium scales and it just feels great in the hand! I just wish I had a bit better steel for the price of the knife and mines just S30V with the black DLC coating.

    I'm so happy I got mine I'm loving it too. I put the bronze mxg gear deep carry clip on it. I bought the clip once they announced this knife last year and have been waiting a year for its release

      I actually was contemplating the bronze clip but got the plain. How's it look with the bronze?

      I got the black mxg and ended up selling it because it just bugged me that it didn't match anything else on the knife. Personally it stood out like a sore thumb. Currently waiting on gold titanium clip and harware from etsy. We'll see how it looks

    Love the Krein regrind Manix 2, I have a couple myself. I have a Z wear Shaman on the way. I really like the ergos on the Shaman but dislike how thick the grind is. I will get it reground thinner to help with that, but not thin enough where it won’t still be durable. .028” behind the edge is just way too thick for my tastes, but I don’t go trying to cut nails in half. I generally carry .005”-.010” on my EDC, but for a larger knife .015” BTE balances strength and slicing well.

    The Shamans' have a problem with the factory washers. I had the CF/s90v one for 2 years and just replaced the washers with the PM2/PM3 washers from pacificsonsknives. It fixed everything. Cranked down all the way, no blade play and better than factory action.

    Thanks for the review. I love the Shaman, I have the cruwear and rex45 versions. I’m so use to using them I don’t even think about the nub issue. What variant of the Native Chief would you recommend.

    • @ThePocketPerspective
      @ThePocketPerspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d go for the S90V if you already have Shamans in Cruwear and Rex45. Unless you want to match your Rex45. I believe the Rex variant should be out in the next few weeks.

    I've been looking on the Shaman Z-Wear and you can't find them anywhere except on the secondary market and they want between $400.00 and $600.00 for it, and I refuse to pay that much for it. If you know of a place that has the Z-Wear for sale please let me know.

    Great review. I’ve been trying to get one for months now here in Mexico. The only model I found is the serrated one in Amazon. What’s your opinion on that version?

    • @ThePocketPerspective
      @ThePocketPerspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alfredo, I think it depends on what you are going to use it for and how much you like to sharpen your knives. Spyderco serrations are great and cut most things pretty well. They open boxes, cut rope, break down cardboard. The Shaman looks great fully serrated. You could get a cheaper fully serrated Spyderco and see if you like that before going all in on the serrated Shaman.
