  • Allan Moffat’s 1969 Trans-Am Mustang is arguably Australia’s most famous racing car ever to hit the tarmac, making its debut at Sandown Park in the Southern 60 Touring Car Series. It was one of seven Trans-Am Mustangs built by Kar-Kraft USA, and was actually gifted to Allan Moffat by Ford Competition department in the US, with Australian Touring Car Championship victory in its sight.
It was a hand-built Ford factory racer, built by the best in the business and shipped here to take on Australia's best, including the likes of Norm Beechey in his wild Monaro and Bob Jane's fearsome ZL1 Camaro. It never won the title but this iconic Trans-Am Mustang's record stands at 101 wins from 151 starts, plus countless podium finishes.
Today's Group Nc Historic Touring Car motorsport category emulates Australia's Improved Touring Car and Series Production Car categories of the 60s and 70s, of which also inherently includes American derived cars similar to those raced in the USA Trans-Am and Nascar series during the same period such as the Boss Mustang, Z28 Camaro and Ford Galaxie. The ever-popular Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters series also shares DNA with this category. These iconic days of racing graced our race tracks, setting a path for what is now our mainstream premier racing category hear in Australia known as Supercars, having stemmed from the original V8 Supercars Series created in the early 90s. The difference today is that the latter shares little with its production car counterparts, where back in these early days your could virtually walk into your local car dealership and buy what was raced.
At Master of Machines we'll check out anything with wheels or an engine, from American Muscle Cars, Australian Muscle Cars, Japanese Cars, European Cars, Classic Cars, Vintage Cars, Race Cars, Vintage Racers, Historic Race Cars, Pro Touring, Street Machines, Speedway, Aircraft, Engines, Motorcycles, Trucks, you name it, even a military tank! If it's super cool we'll cover it, and not only that, in many cases, we'll even drive, race or ride them!
Passionate car guy and Master of Machines host Glenn Everitt has extensive experience in the Automotive Industry, as a high performance technician, auto mechanic and dyno tuner, including other industries such as auto restoration and auto detailing. He's a lifelong racer too, born into a motorsport family and starting with road racing from the age of 14, and also competing in Drag Racing to help promote his dyno shop for many years. He's also passionate about two wheels as well, having started out on dirt bikes, then moving to Sports bikes of all kinds.

I was a kid out at Oran Park watching Moffat and Jane going hammer and tongs. Moffat was GOD and the car above is how I remember it. The back was up on jacks in the grass while they worked on it. Truly a magic time for motor racing in Australia.

Getting all the video at Philip Island.
It was funny and not ??
Watching the drivers trying to get these cars going around corners.
They were really a point and shot car back then.
Forget about going around corners, LOL.
The drivers were really wrestling with the cars when it came to cornering.

Bloody hell those cars handle like crap!! Plus Dennis seemed to be a gear too low everywhere. And thoe camera car with all the tyre squeal. Tyre squeal in a racecar?
Those stupid useless Hoosiers are a good part of the problem. Use some radials!! I suspect a normal buffed road tyre would be far better. And yes I am aware of the lack of suitable race radials.
And yes I have done a lot of laps around that place tough in a Sports Sedan 10+ sec a lap faster and about a quarter of the cost.
