I have never found a use for it, except in a public space where people liked to turn on lights in the middle of the day in a large room that has plenty of windows, so the lights do almost nothing. In that case, I simply don't allow the lights to be turned on when Lux values are high enough :)

My personal experience with the FP1 is that, it's not as magical as I thought it would be... It get stuck with presence quite often, and sometimes it thinks I'm out of the room or it takes some time to give feedback... Maybe wifi could be worse, I don't know. But I think its better to have more cheaper simpler sensors, maybe an array of mm wave modules in a ESP, than only one sensor that may fail some times and break all the automations of the room. That being said, I'll stiil wait for more info about this sensor, and maybe I change my mind...
The everything presense one was wifi and it worked better than the FP1, at least in my personal experience but being able to block out areas like ceiling fans is a huge plus that was needed due to MmWave sensors being too sensitive

I don't want my cat turning on the lights all around the house if I start to smartify it.... Will this be a problem? If anyone can tell me, and/or point me in the right direction to where I can learn more it would be cool! ty.
Noticed in the logs that it is blocking multicast calls, 224.0.0.251:5353. This would be mDNS/Avahi/bonjour services that are normally required with most IoT devices in order for them to communicate status, etc. Should see if it still works after making a rule to allow that. Note that multicast addresses do not leave the network that they are transmitted from.
I got the FP1 after your review and I'm having very poor sensing with that one too. Like two meters distance long periods without much movement (studying on a desk) and it will still turn off the lights. So I'm not getting this one either if it doesn't get you in bed. Seems the same probably.
Ty for the video. It would be interesting to see what kind of entities this product creates in Home Assistant and figure out what's is the best way to create some automations

Hi and many thanks for this review. I am wondering if it is possible to install more than one device in a room? The reason and purpose would be, for example, to cover a larger area because a device has a limited range. Wouldn't several devices in a room interfere with each other with the microwaves? thx

Did they fix the internet requirement issue? And did it get a matter support update?
Hi great video as always. I'm still keen to pick up a EP1 kit when they become available, can you let me know how both the EP1 and FP2 cope with cats or dogs, I'm not keen on the animals triggering my automations.
mmWave detects any and all movement regardless of what it was unfortunately
@@EverythingSmartHome true though supposedly by reducing the sensitivity it stops detecting small children, at least that's what another reviewer found with the fp2
I would like to do zone detection in a fenced backyard. Would Aqara FP2 work for this use case?
Would it be possible to program so many zones in a DIY mm wave sensor connected to an ESP32 and HA?
can you use some bluetooth usb c antenna dongle instead of the cable? or some other usb c device to be plugged into the FP2 and have data packets send through wireless to the router or a hub
Good luck getting one, all the links you provided in several countries had none.
I know that there are so many people that will be picking up one because of availability. Really wish that EP1's were more easily accessible here in Cananda
We have lots of stock at the moment, we are just making them available in batches so we can keep up with shipping times!
still waiting for EP1. missed the last pre-order by only a day and it is sold out. hopefully you can restock and have more availability in Canada. Cheers!
Better upgrade the EP1. Only inpressing with the FP2 is the zones but that you can solve I am sure
I’m looking to get one of these and if I understood you correctly I don’t need to have anything other than this (or a hub) and some smart lightbulbs for it to control. Is this correct?
Friend, can you tell me please if fp2 works great with fans ? May tuya sensor has many false detections with fans😢
Maybe it isn't even a issue in general, let me know if I worry about nothing.
But how is this, and other solutions with pets? I don't want my cat turning on the lights all around the house if I start to smartify it.... Will this be a problem? Will the mmwave be the thing that can make it see "hey this is just a small cat, and not a full grown human" can the pir already do this?
If anyone can tell me, and/or point me in the right direction to where I can learn more it would be cool! ty.
Noticed in the logs that it is blocking multicast calls, 224.0.0.251:5353. This would be mDNS/Avahi/bonjour services that are normally required with most IoT devices in order for them to communicate status, etc. Should see if it still works after making a rule to allow that. Note that multicast addresses do not leave the network that they are transmitted from.
Mine, just lost the presence sensor at all. Only lux sensor shows right now.... Is it fried?
I got the FP1 after your review and I'm having very poor sensing with that one too. Like two meters distance long periods without much movement (studying on a desk) and it will still turn off the lights. So I'm not getting this one either if it doesn't get you in bed. Seems the same probably.
i got the HA and the fp2 ready, what if i dont use homekit, and apple, is there still a possibility i can connect the fp2?
Ty for the video. It would be interesting to see what kind of entities this product creates in Home Assistant and figure out what's is the best way to create some automations
Curious with ceiling fan test.
If it’s right above your couch/bed then it’s gonna be a problem if that specific area gets ignored as interference
That is a very good point, never thought of that!
Great review, well done as always.
I’d love to see you review the Tuya ZY-M100 to see how it stacks up.
Perhaps even a roundup video of the Tuya ZY-M100, the EP1, the FP1 & the FP2?
Love your content. Thanks again!
I don't enjoy the Tuya at all 😅
@@EverythingSmartHome me either, but this one has a Zigbee chipset, no wifi, no cloud - plus it’s half the cost of the Aqara FP1.
Great review! Do we know the wattage this device pulls? Since I do not have power outlets in the vicinity of where I would want to place it, can you use a power bank and use it that way in usable manner?
Multi person and fall detection make it worthwhile to me. Matter doesn't matter(and never will). Needing internet (even for only some features)is almost a deal breaker. I'll be scouring the net for alternate firmware if they dont correct that, and I certainly won't buy a 2nd one until that is fixed.
As always great review
My oldest son is disabled. I can't wait to be able to use MMW with AI video processing to be able to tag people and track locations. We have had a few scares where he as eloped out of the house and having these two technologies play with one another is going to be huge. Same thing with elderly. Thanks as always for your hard work... soooooo hows the PoE EP1 coming? =D
It's still coming 😅
My issue is my house is too big for Aqara Zigbee. I don't see any extenders or repeaters. Is there anything I can do?
Any idea how it would react to dogs?
How/where do you need to mount these mm sensors? Do they need an unblocked view of the entire room or could you tuc it away a little bit?
Is it possible to use this sensor if I use a Veraplus hub ?
Can you pls show what the mmwave sensor they are using is?
Any update on restocks of your Everything Presence sensor? Would love to grab one!
Tomorrow!
Just got 2 EP1's, so probably no point getting FP2! Currently adjusting the sensors and locations to my liking before starting automations.
Enjoy! 🙌🏻
@@EverythingSmartHome Thanks!
I know it’s 10 months later, I live in Canada and find it a pain to constantly change my smart thermostat each season from cold to heat and vice versa setup is there a personal automation I could do to eliminate this?
Having zones in EP1 will be a matter of replacing the mmWave sensor or is "just" a firmware update? (I guess is HW change). I just got the EP1 in the last batch (still waiting for it to be shipped! :D), but I was really excited about the zones when I saw FP2 that I'm thinking about getting a FP2 too, although I really don't like that it doesn't work without Internet... Anyway, I hope you've that zones improvement in your roadmap and will us (more) happy soon (and for a reasonable upgrade price xD)!
It's different hardware but that's why the sensor is removable
@@EverythingSmartHome Thanks! I suspected that... I hope you'll be able to get it work in EP1 too!
Hi and many thanks for this review.
I am wondering if it is possible to install more than one device in a room?
The reason and purpose would be, for example, to cover a larger area because a device has a limited range.
And in addition, if the software would support the function of grouping several devices together, this probably also could increase the accuracy of the position detection!?
Wouldn't several devices in a room interfere with each other with the microwaves?
thx
I'm playing with fp2 now and so far it's great with one issue: sometimes it's triggered by my dog.
Currently available????
I'd like to know where from, because everywhere I have looked are out of stock
Must I have Apple devices to integrate with HASS?
Can you set it up for the first time locally without any internet connection?
interesting i looked up the ips that the aqara sensor was trying to talk to and one of them points to tencent
Doesn't Tencent own a significant amount of the internet in China?
@@EverythingSmartHome yeah pretty much, and they have huge investments overseas too. Pretty sure they have a large steaks and/or ownership in riot games and epic games. And that's just what I know off the top of my head. They're huge and their reach is even larger
Can I use this with a tuya smart light bulb how do I need some sort of a hub. Currently I switch the two year light bulb ways my Alexa echo which has zigbee built in.
Another amazing video!. Informative and enjoyable to watch.
Still waiting for you to lean into the Scottish accent more and roll your Rrrrs among things. 😝 Maybe in one of the always funny blooper takes at the end? 😉😉
You could get an angled usb-c cable to hide it a bit better
Indeed you could, still don't love the top facing port but just me!
@@EverythingSmartHome and it means getting an extra cable!
Also, it's a shame it's not local ☹️
@@EverythingSmartHome You could use nail polish remover to get rid of the logo. That's what I've done and works well.
@@EverythingSmartHome Not just you. I would have loved to see the connector routed through the base instead. Not too hard to do yourself, though.
Do you know if there's an SDK for Aqara or if there's a way to integrate custom behaviour? It could be fun to implement a nearest-neighbor with the LED strips on my wall skirtings. For chasing the cats and such 😄
Could you tell us more on the fall detection feature? Thanks
Hi Lewis. Thank you for the videos. They are helping as I start working through my home automation project with home assistant. You mentioned this device does not work when the Internet is blocked. I was wondering if you have a video or list of devices that work when the Internet is disabled? Thanks.
Home Assistant has their list of integration types and I was expecting they could be filtered by the connection type but not on the main list unfortunately (though if you open each one's page up that is an enumerated field set so is easy to filter on if it was available at the top level).
I really hope the reliance on internet access disappears, but what a cool sensor, and good looking as well
I love it, I want one, but I won't buy it until it will work behind a firewall.
Awesome review video. And about pets? Cats and medium size dogs?
mmWave will detect any and all movement regardless of what it was unfortunately
Did they ever get a firmware update to fix the Internet issue ?
Do you have any plan to make EP1 available for purchase in the near future ?
Thanks !
Has been for the last few weeks 😅 more landing tomorrow
I believe the issue with Type-C cable is caused by FP2 being not able to shake hands with the charging protocol.
Might need to turn your USB-C 180 degrees.
Potentially even may need to try multiple times, rotating at the FP side and the charger side.
How does it react if there is light moving through the windows?
It's great that it's avaliable everywere.. except for Australia haha. Everywhere on Amazon seems to be sold out too :(
Great, honest review.
🙏🏻
Spotted it on Amazon UK yesterday, sold out on Amazon everywhere again. Hopefully availability won’t be as poor as the FP1, not a great start 😢
They are generally pretty good at restocking
@@EverythingSmartHome I think after your review I’ll be headed for the EP1 anyway!
