    Great video, Shane. One of the telling aspects of the FP2 is how blown away even the heavy users of SmartHome products, such as yourself, have been with this sensor. I can’t wait to add a few of these to the house, especially in areas where the family never remembers to turn out lights!

    This is the type of useful smart home tech I’m looking forward to. Gimmicky lights and things may look cool, but this is truly useful, (and potentially life saving with the fall detection.)

      Very new to all this.. what hub do we need? I have Apple phone and want to use this to turn on lights while we walk throughout the home and off when we are not in a room. I was looking at some smart bulbs to go with this, what do we need.

    • @SmartHomeHASHTAGS
      @SmartHomeHASHTAGS ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dpixtion if you're interested in the Aqara ecosystem you'll need an Aqara hub. They have many different types of hubs from USB powered that connects to the internet via Wi-Fi, one that connects via Ethernet cable and a couple of Aqara cameras have hubs in-built.

  • @patrickpaganini
    @patrickpaganini ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it's nice that it doesn't need the Aqara hub to work with homekit, and that once you've set up zones via the app, you can apparently delete the app, and the FP2 will continue working locally.

I set it up in my basement where I had using the motion sensors in various areas before but it was never ideal given the activities in those areas. • @JoshFisher567
      @JoshFisher567 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The FP2 allows you to add "interference sources" in the app, would this not work in your setup? From other reviews I have seen, it seems to work very well. I owned the FP1 and that was a major issue because even though it supported zones, you couldn't make it ignore certain areas or add interference sources, like my ceiling fan and having to remember to turn my overhead fan off every time I left kind of defeated the purpose of having it so I changed to espresense. Another video review showed this working with ceiling fans but you have to go into the Aqara app and map out the areas and map out the "interference sources", not just ignore them which is also an option. It's shown in this review around the 7 minute 10 second mark but if this function doesn't work as advertised then it's a no go for me also.

The only thing you didn’t cover in your review though, is how long does it take for Motion activity to reset? For example, the Hue motion sensors take ~10 seconds before motion is no longer detected. Does this sensor reset motion the moment it stops (but keeps occupancy triggered)? Or is there also a 10+ second delay before the motion triggered will end or reset to null?
    Thank you again!

    Love the channel, keep up the good work!
    A question: just took delivery of two FP2's so this might just be inexperience but I feel a bit limited in using them for automation.
    For example, I'd like to program activating certain lights for as long as someone is detected, but then shut them off after, say, 5 mins of absence. This is possible in the Aqara app, but none of my other Homekit accessories (which all my bulbs and most smart plugs are) shows up there. In the Home app, it's possible to set automation from movement detected by the FP2, but no way of setting absence timer? Any tips would be appreciated!
    Also, pretty sure I heard in one of the reviews on YT that it doesn't support multiple FP2's on the same floor/area. If this is true, any suggestions on overcoming this limitation? Are there any rumors that a software update might fix it?

    PROBLEM FOR ME: Although this sensor has great technical features, I take issue with the fact that it must be mounted with a wire hanging down your wall and has to be plugged in. Lutron’s sensor may not have those features but aesthetically it looks much better when mounted. It operates with the use of a battery which lasts a very, very very long time. I installed one sensor in my home over a year ago and it’s still working fine and very sensitive. When Aqara produces a battery operated sensor I will definitely be on board.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aqara does sell a number of battery powered sensors, including various motion sensors. They are great.
      While I agree, it would be great if this presence sensor didn’t require the wire for power, mmWave and all the features wouldn’t be possible without it currently.

    @GaintPumpkinz ปีที่แล้ว

    This has been working great when I’m testing it ALONE but, as soon as I introduce another person it can’t seem to tell that we are two different people.
    For example if I’m in the living room and leave the lights will turn off. However, if I’m in there and, some else enters when they leave the lights turn off, while I’m still sitting in there.
    I hope they find a fix for this or fine tune it. the fp1 although much slower never had the problem of “forgetting” someone was in a room or merging them into the same person if they got too close!

    hi.. i need help with a shortcut / automation idea that involves Aqara products.. basically, I am using an Aqara G3 camera hub. I use the privacy mode settings in the same to flip and turn it off when I or my wife or both are home, and turn it back on, when we aren't. I have created these automations in Aqara and then exposed them as scenes to Home app. It's snappy and works great even with Apple TV remote. Now, since both of us have access to this scene automation to turn privacy mode on / off, I'd like to get a notification on my phone that the scene has run. This should happen even if I am not the one doing it, same goes the other way. While there is an option in the Aqara app to add a sound, it is restricted only to the sounds coming out of the camera. I want this alert to be sent to mine and my wife's phone. A possible workaround could be adding this as a Siri Shortcut, but doesn't seem to be the most efficient way, and i'd like both of us to be notified, irrespective of who's changed the privacy mode.. anyway to do this?

I was intrigued by the positive comments about 1 ½ weeks ago and bought one but having the problem that after scanning in the Aqara App the Homekit code to process comes up with an error message. Tells me simply that there was an error. I contacted Aqara support. They send me free of charge a new one. Same problem. I can see from my router that the FP2 connects to my Wi-Fi but that's all. I have two other Aqara products ( the G4 doorbell and the G2h pro camera ) and their set-up in Homekit was without any problem at all and they work flawlessly. I have the feeling that it has something to do with the latest iOS 16.4.1 release as the other two devices have been installed prior. Any suggestions ?

      I have seen this in other reviews where if they blocked internet access then it just stopped working and wouldn't report to anything. Someone from Aqara had posted that this "bug" had been fixed although that's one heck of a "bug" to overlook. Not sure if that involved a firmware update or software update but according to Aqara, it works now without an active internet connection which I exactly why I didn't order one when they were in stock. While I don't personally mind sending some data to improve a product, there should always be an opt out option and an active internet connection should NEVER be needed for any smart home device at this point. In fact, Matter REQUIRES local LAN functionality, granted presense detectors have not been added to Matter yet but Aqara said it will be updated to Matter once they are as they are adding devices in categories.
      With that said, I have not seen anyone confirm if this is the case or not. Would really like confirmation if this device works now when blocking internet access to the FP2

    Does this require line of sight or can it work through thin objects such as a shower curtain or around shallow corners?

    Great video Shane. Do you have to use the Aqara hub or can you get away without it?

      Thanks Mike. It connects directly to wifi, so you don't have to have an Aqara hub.

    Me gustaría poner un fp2 en una pequeña escalera 🪜 de 5 escalones (en el techo ) para saber si mi abuelo se cae por la escalera (ya se ha caído un par de veces). Pero no se si tendrá muchos falsos positivo, pues al bajar normal la escalera puede detectar como una caída. Me pregunto si funcionará en una escalera para detención de caídas en personas mayores

    Can the presence sensor be used in HomeKit to tell WHO is in a room? Could I set an automation to happen if a door opens and neither myself nor my wife is in the room that the door opens? Or is the presence sensor anonymous and cannot detect specific people?

    How do you set up delays for the presence sensor in HomeKit? The shortcuts app only has triggers for times of day etc and there’s no way to set it to wait 15 seconds before presence isn’t detected to shut lights off

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      HomeKit automation > use convert to shortcut. Then you can use the wait action

    Dear Shane .. Using Aqara app., I have created Zones in my living room where FP2 is installed and have automated them. Unfortunately, i am experiencing Ghosts in these Zones. Please let me know how i could remove these Ghosts which unnecessarily triggers connected wifi lights On/Off ?. Thanks in advance.

    For what the sensor actually does, it’s amazing. The only thing thats kind of bugging me out is why can’t I have it HomeKit to TURN OFF the lights IF it doesn’t detection motion in a specific zone for 2 mins (or any other time interval)? I’ve tried shortcuts as well. Has anyone else been success with this?

  • @nev922
    @nev922 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, so as a fp1 and now fp2 owner; I set it in HomeKit to turn on the lights at sunset. BUT, if I’m in the room already pre sunset and sunset occurs, I have to exit and re-enter the room to trigger it. Any suggestions?

    I built an automation that in the process I converted into a shortcut to turn off my office light when I'm away for 10 minutes, but if I leave for a while and come back again the automation doesn't postpone! What is missing here?

    How does this compare to the eve thread? I find that product to be slow to respond and a bit buggy. And finally we’ll it work without an Aquara hub in HomeKit?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a different device. Hard to compare PIR to a mm wave occupancy sensor. The benefits of mm wave over PIR are discussed in the video. It does not require an Aqara hub since it connects directly to wifi.

    I waited this sensor to come in Finland. Bought this and its nothing like yours. Made same automation that if someone is in the zone turn light on. I can dance middle of the zone in the dark becouse it dosen’t see me. Im only over 190cm tall and weight litlebit over 100kg so I guess im too small to noticed. Wondering what went wrong. Sometimes flash the light and then turn off.

    If there is a fan working in the room will it interfere or not that’s the question I have the other one and when the fan is on and nobody is in the room, it won’t start the automation in the room and the lights and fan still be on

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add an interference area for something like this and it will ignore whatever is in that area.

    • @ShaneCreates

      The PIR sensors will be much more affordable. So if you don't need all the advanced features and simple motion, the PIR would still be a good option for less money.
