Heading to Italy for my husband's 50th in April. We just happened to book our stay in Trastevere (the vibe just really appealed to me), but I've been questioning my decision ever since. Thank you for this video, as I can now sleep easy, haha! Great content, and I'm looking forward to more.
Great neighborhood for sure. It is overall a young crowd and lively. You will be walking a bit more as compared to just across the river. So many great thins to do and see and eat! Have a great trip!
Thanks for watching. Be sure to check out some of my itinerary videos. I think they will help you a lot when you make plans for what to see and do in Rome.
You’re going to love it. It’s a great place to wake up at and come home to at night. It’s easy to cross the river to many of Rome sites. The only downside is there’s no metro nearby so you will end up walking a bit more. I hope you have a great trip.
Hi, and thank you for all your tips and advice. My husband and I will be in Rome next month, and are booked to stay is Trastevere. I really appreciate the reviews of restaurants you like, and places not to miss. I hope we have the stamina to walk everywhere, and enjoy every corner!

Great vid. Can’t wait to get back this fall for the 2nd time. Rome is the biggest walkable city I’ve been too in my many travels. Every direction is endless things to see, eat and do. Lots of idea for me. ✌
Great video! Trastevere is a fantastic and vibrant area. Area around Termini station is less fun. Not bad but just not nearly as good as Trastevere. Monti is also a very good area. We also stayed in Monte Sacro. A nice calm area in north east Rome. A tip is eat where the locals eat. Nannarella is very good in Trastevere.
This is so helpful. Thank you! Been 21 years since we have been to Rome. Lived near Venice for three years, and Rome was my favorite place in all of Italy. We were going to stay near Piazza Navona, where we have stayed before, but I think we are going to give Trastevere a try! Sounds like just our style.
Both Navona and Trastevere neighborhoods are great. Trastevere has overall better food and less expensive. If it were your fist time I would say Navona would likely be better but since it is not give Trastevere a try! I hope you like it.
I usually stay in Airbnb, but there is one hotel. That is very good and I stayed here a while back. It’s called hotel Santa Maria. Perfect hotel perfect location super nice. I can’t recommend it enough.

yes pickleball in Rome. There is a club called New Country Club on the outskirts of Rome with fun players and 4 pickleball courts. If you can get there that is the best. There is also limited play at a sports club in Rome near the Colosseum. It is indoors on gym floors and only limited time to play.most Saturdays. Centro Sportivo Santa Maria
Im so glad to find your channel as we plan our trip to Rome in 2024. We're staying in Trastevere and now feel confident of my choice. Great information & format. Thank you.
Hey...I am visiting that area during first week of January ... How's the night life at Trastevere? Are you finding it easy to communicate to touristic points?
Not a problem at all many people speak english. Night life in Trastevere goes well into the morning every night especially on the weekend. Plenty happening here.
Interesting video. I heard your explanation about the buses. Did you ever walk from the quiet side of Trestevere to the Vatican? Ifo so, how was the walk and how long did it take? Thank you. I am planning a visit to Rome after 40 years! Want to take a family of 6 🙂
we stayed on the quite side of Trastevere for several weeks last year. It is about a 25 to 30 minute walk to the Vatican. One option is to walk one way and take the metro the other. The Circus Maximus station is about a 10 minute walk from quite side of Trastevere.
Thank you for such a detailed post! You are incredibly knowledgable! It will be my first time traveling to Rome and your videos are simply amazing! Found this really useful with so many great tips all round. We stayed near Termini in August. It was fine, but we felt we were missing out a bit on Rome. Will definitely consider Trastevere for a future visit, as well as watching any more videos you do. 👍👍👍
Wow! You give the best tips! I don't think that anyone offers the same 411 on Rome. And the very best graphics. 😊 We're still considering Frascati for the peace and quiet. We have some catching up to do on your channel!
Some of my earlier videos are not the best. I am still learning but they are getting better. I am very familiar with Frascati. I had an apartment there for a cope of months earlier this year. The train runs every hour into Rome costs about 2 euros and takes about 30 minutes. It is a fun place to base from if you have a car as you can explore they all the towns around there but parking is a major pain and driving is a bit stressful. If you do not have a car give Trastevere a try. The early mornings before 10am and the evenings in Rome are not too crowded and awesome even in peak season. If you are in Frascati you will miss those. If you are there during off peak season the city is much more manageable. If in Rome for multiple days, escape a day trip to Frascati or Spoleto. Just my thoughts. I hope you have.a great trip.
Another great video! We will look at this area. What you are missing is gelato 🍧 in relation to this area 😊 my wife loves it and where we were last year had the really good covered gelato so now we are spoiled. Maybe a video of best gelatarias in Rome?
Italians have gelato down, and Romans are no exception. These days it is so hard to taste the difference between one gelato and the next. Now it’s become more about the presentation and experience that differentiates one Gelateria from the next. I did not mention any Gialateria specifically in Trastevere but there are plenty. My wife has her favorite too called Giolitti located a little north of the pantheon. sometimes when we’re in the area we have to walk over there just to get her favorite gelato but I personally don’t see a big difference.
I am not a gelato snob by any stretch but I did feel I could tell the difference between some of the places in Florence and the gelato in San Gimignano, I might have just been super hungry though :) @@RozierRoma
1st time to Rome. Would you recommend using a local travel agency to arrange excursions like to Pompeii? Or is it pretty easy to book. Thank you for the wealth of information.
I think it is very easy to book on own with a little research if on a budget, There is an app called getyourguide that works really well in Italy that you should check out.
Book your Airbnb early and you will likely save money and have the best selection. There are lots to choose from. Try to pick one that has good reviews. Have a great trip
Wow, you are doing a great job as a tour guide. Why did you get so interested in Italy? I have only been to Cancun and Hawaii. I loved Hawaii and would like to visit again.
I was in Italy for a couple of years in my youth as a missionary for my church and more recently have the opportunity to spend more time there. It feels like it is part of me now.
Suggestion: When I saw the title of the video I thought you were going to mention the location of two places (specific Air BNB, hotel, etc), not just a general area. Are there any specific hotels, etc you recommend? Good information overall though. Thanks
Thanks for watching, sorry it was not what you were expecting. Here is a video I did that may be more helpful.th-cam.com/video/qVhgZI7TFQo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qEYjUD_uuyYTsEg7
Trastevere is very safe even very late at night. It is a very fun area and the nightlife goes well past midnight. Seriously almost no crime. I would feel very comfortable having my daughters stay there.
Of those three the best would be in the Monti neighborhood near the Colosseum They have two metro stations that service the neighborhood. The streets are very fun to walk-through interesting and lots of restaurants and stores. I’m working on a video soon about Monti but that’s where I would stay if I wanted to be near the metro. The neighborhood is awesome.
@@RozierRoma Thanks for the response. This is our first trip to Rome and we wound up going with an apartment in Trastevere. Your videos were very helpful.
I Love Trestevre, however you need to be careful and not book accommodations near any train tracks. It was the loudest 3 nights of my life. This time I booked an Airbnb near Piazza Navona (My Favorite place in Rome.) arriving in Rome in 29 days! ❤
Your place must have been very close! If you stay closer to the river there are no tracks but just stay away from loud bars/nigh clubs and load squares. Have a great time!
I'm told by different sources that Testaccio is where many of the very best restaurants are located, where the locals like to frequent. Trestevere is more tourist oriented. I spent my final day of my first trip to Rome exploring that neighborhood and was somewhat underwhelmed. Too many fellow Americans and it was graffitiland! Wish I had picked Monti instead.
Lots of graffiti for sure. I spent the past 2 months in Trastevere {November and December} At that time of year not too many tourists but the restaurants are filled with Romans. Trastevere is much more walker friendly streets than Testacio. Both have great food options, For me I prefer Trastevere. It is better connected to other areas as well.
I know picking up a few Italian words and phrases would be beneficial, but do most restaurants have English speaking waiters/waitresses? Do you order in Italian?
@@RozierRoma honestly it is the most thorough vlog of Rome I have found for anyone looking for details I love the maps and all of the visuals. It is great for first timers to Rome. very good vlog.
Curious, you mention worrying about being run over by cars. The problem here in France are Bikes, which are everywhere and all the incivility that goes with them. Basically pedestrians are have to watch out so they won't be run over by cyclists and those on inline scooters.
While there are bikes and scooters in Rome there are not really that many. Maybe because the roads cobblestone and bumpy. I mentioned cars because many Italians drive very aggressively. Cars, scooter and bikes seem to have the right-away.
Sorry if that was confusing. In the video, I do mention my number one pic, which is Torre Argentina/Campo dei fiori. That is my number one pic. I am currently working on additional videos right now with other areas to consider plus minuses of each. The first one should be ready in the next day or two.
The best advise is to travel to Italy in the low season when hotels are over hael off and if you are traveling in high season book very early for best deals. One option is to base your trip from Tivoli just outside of Rome. Hotels and Airbnb from 70 euros plus a great city and you can take the train into Rome when you want. Also try rooms for rent on Airbnb you might find a decent deal.
The good thing about Rome is other than theft crime is very low. I would feel very comfortable sending my daughter to Rome even by herself. I would suggest you get a bit away from Termini station but still stay in the center area of Rome. Monti, Campo De'Fiori, Piazza Navona, Trastevere. Have a great visit
Where did you stay? I have a great idea for you. Try basing outside of Rome in a small town called Tivoli. You can easily take the train into Rome and check out some sites, but Tivoli is a fun town with lots to do and see. Great restaurants. No crowds, just awesome. Next time I recommend you giving that a try
Trastevere seems like a good location, but too much graffiti is not as welcoming… we decided to try Ludovisi, near the US Embassy… I hope it’s a good location…
Thanks for watching the video. Near the US Embassy are some very nice places but it’s not very centrally located but there are buses and taxis that you can get that can help you get around Rome. If you don’t like the graffiti, I suggest you take a look at Campo de Fiori, if it’s not too late
I don’t understand why everyone is advertising trastevere? It’s so far and so not exciting. There is so much better area and so mush better places to stay, clean , no graffiti, close to all the attractions. Useless advises
If graffiti bothers you, I can see why it may not be the right fit for you. it is not far as it is just across the river from Largo, Argentina, Campo de Fiori and the Jewish ghetto and so much more. Yet it has its own personality with tons of eating options. if you stay there for a little bit of time it grows on you.
Not everyone likes vanilla, but it is the number one selling ice cream in the world. Seriously though, if you have an opinion, let me know what you think is better area for visiting tourists?

Of those three the best would be in the Monti neighborhood near the Colosseum They have two metro stations that service the neighborhood. The streets are very fun to walk-through interesting and lots of restaurants and stores. I’m working on a video soon about Monti but that’s where I would stay if I wanted to be near the metro. The neighborhood is awesome.
@@RozierRoma Thanks for the response. This is our first trip to Rome and we wound up going with an apartment in Trastevere. Your videos were very helpful.
I think you will like it!
I like It, thanks for making this video.
Thanks for watching!
Any hotel recommendations in the atea pls ? Tks❤
Sure. Here are some.th-cam.com/video/qVhgZI7TFQo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZnRW1M-2CHzWMFja
@@RozierRoma Thank you!!
In Rome, especially in the city center everybody that deals with the public speaks enough English to get by just fine don’t worry
@@RozierRoma thanks for the reply
Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤❤
No problem, glad you liked it!
I was in Rome last month for 6 nights. I already want to go back. 😊
Rome has a way of doing that
Great video very informative:)
I’m glad you like it. What could’ve had done better? I’m always looking to improve.
@@RozierRoma honestly it is the most thorough vlog of Rome I have found for anyone looking for details I love the maps and all of the visuals. It is great for first timers to Rome. very good vlog.
How far is the walk from Trastevere to say the Patheon or Colosseum? Thxs
About 20 minutes to the Pantheon and 25 to the Colosseum. You can catch the metro and the end on Circus Maximus and save a few minutes..
Curious, you mention worrying about being run over by cars. The problem here in France are Bikes, which are everywhere and all the incivility that goes with them. Basically pedestrians are
have to watch out so they won't be run over by cyclists and those on inline scooters.
While there are bikes and scooters in Rome there are not really that many. Maybe because the roads cobblestone and bumpy. I mentioned cars because many Italians drive very aggressively. Cars, scooter and bikes seem to have the right-away.
You have mentioned 2 best places in caption but shared only 1 that is Trastevere..
Which one is the second best location to stay?
Sorry if that was confusing. In the video, I do mention my number one pic, which is Torre Argentina/Campo dei fiori. That is my number one pic. I am currently working on additional videos right now with other areas to consider plus minuses of each. The first one should be ready in the next day or two.
What are some good priced hotels.
Hello , as a solo woman traveller where can i stay in rome, all i expect from a hotel is safe area and clean room
Have a great visit
good video :D
Glad you liked it
Been to Rome twice and didn’t like it at all, maybe change of location will help! Thanks!
@@RozierRoma lovely idea, thank you! Not a fan of traffic noises and fumes, and I travel solo so enjoy some quiet.
Knowing that, Tivoli will be perfect for you.!!
let's drop some likes! 😋 (not this comment lol, for the video) edit: this is amazing, so well done. actually!
Thanks I am glad. you liked it. I made a few videos about neighborhoods and I liked how this one turned out.
Near the Embassy there are some nice upscale hotels, and more sterile environment a little less authentic but still nice
I have lived in Rome and I disagree with you! Good luck with your show
Not everyone likes vanilla, but it is the number one selling ice cream in the world. Seriously though, if you have an opinion, let me know what you think is better area for visiting tourists?
