I really wish they had upgraded the art on the cards and such for the new addition! I’ve yet to get Catan but having a fresh new look would have made the anniversary edition more tempting.
I think that version is worth purchasing if one doesn't already have a copy in their collection. My copy is still in great shape, so I don't feel like I need another one for now.
Cool upgrade! We have the 5-6 player expansion already, so we probably won't purchase. But, of I were new to the game, I would think about it!
Catan is the GOAT. And my favorite game to bring people into the hobby. Everyone needs a copy in their collection.
Looks like a version only worth purchasing if one doesn't have a copy at all since the upgrades don't scream "must have" unless one is a cost-is-no-object Catan superfan.
Tough to improve on such a classic, but they did a nice job with the 25th anniversary edition.
Totally worth it if you do not have the game. I have a very old original copy and it took 4 boxes just for the base game so I moved it all into a clear plastic tote. It would be an upgrade for us to ditch our 25 year old game and have it properly boxed and organized.
I pretty much agree with your assessments. The 25th anniversary edition can be a good buy if someone knows they'll been wanting the 5-6 player expansions for sure, but personally I think 80 dollars is still a bit much for it. Unless you really want those upgraded components, I think it's more economical to buy the core game and expansions individually with sales. I have the very old "Settlers of Catan" version, but I don't think it'll be needing replacement yet!
5-6 player included and a decent insert? Catan boxes have come a long long way. If I was in the market for a new copy I’d be picking up the 25th anniversary. Also having higher quality components is a bonus.
Like many have said already, the anniversary edition is worth getting if you don’t own the original. I would pass on it if you do. I’m also a little disappointed they didn’t put a little more love into the new edition. A lot of missed opportunities in my opinion.
Catan was my gateway into tabletop, as it is with many people. I have the original “Settlers” version, and don’t really see a need to upgrade. Great review!

Am I right in assuming that the Catan expansions (e.g. Seafarers) for the base game also works for the 25th anniversary edition (obviously I don't mean the 5-6 player expansion as that is already included)?
I bought a 25th anniversary edition earlier this year in Poitiers. The rules are in French, but the box contains Catan basic game, Seafarers, 5-6 player extensions for both, and scenario boards for Hawaii and the Iberian Penninsular. The English version looks poor by comparison.
It looks like a great gift. So yes it does look like a good buy especially with the included expansions

I'd say if you don't own Catan then this 25th Anniversary is worth it. But if you already own Catan it's not a must own.
Catan sees the table a lot at my house, so it's well loved. But I've never needed the 5-6 player extension. If I ever needed to expand to play with more friends I think it'd be a good snag.
Since I don't own Catan I would definitely prefer the Anniversary version, BUT if I were to buy Catan... I truly want the Star Trek version over any. The theme and look with the extra galaxy map is awesome. #Ronatine2021 #FloridaPlaguelands #StarTrekCatan
I don't think this is worth purchasing if you have the original, but if you don't own Catan, this edition is slightly better in almost every aspect.
The only Catan I have is the Game of Thrones version. Might be cool to get the original, but I still think the $80 is way too high for 25th anniversary. Normally you can find the original and the expansion on sale, so I probably wouldn't pay more than $50 for the 25th version.

Have the original, I don’t think I would buy it now. However if I didn’t have a copy of Catan I would probably get that version.
My copy of Catan hasn't been played in a long time, but if you could sell your original copy for a decent price I think this would be worth it to upgrade.
Cool changes that I'd appreciate playing, but personally wouldn't send that much for the price. If I didn't already own Catan, I think I'd appreciate buying an expansion and the regular base game instead.
Our copy is in great shape, so no, the anniversary addition would not be beneficial to me. Btw, the best part of Boardlandia clothing is the awesome smell of your store! So sad when it has to be washed
I play a lot of Catan but I already have a somewhat upgraded set so I wouldn’t buy it again. I’d love to win or be gifted a set or if I found a deal but I won’t go out my way to pick it up, especially at that price. The price is reasonable for what’s in the box though and I do like the “upgrades”.
The changes DO look nice, but we rarely play Catan anymore, so this edition doesn't seem worth it for us. But hey, WOW, Happy 25th birthday, Catan! ^_^
If I was choosing to buy one, I'd probably go with the anniversary edition, but I own the original and the 5-6 player expansion and I'm definitely not picking this up.

We rarely get Catan played so probably not worth getting 25th anniversary; plenty of Catan Jr. played with kids though
I already own all of the gameplay content that is included with the anniversary edition, so I’m not likely to purchase the new edition just for the cosmetic changes.
I own the classic version so I'll skip. But I think a big box version with multiple full expansions (instead of sleeves) would have been more appealing.

Hard to justify the price difference from the standard version. One could buy a nice additional game instead!

I have not played Catan in close to 10 years. I need to break out my copy. The insert is nice but not worth buying to upgrade my copy.
I don’t adore Catan so wouldn’t be worth buying for me, but it does look nice for those who love the game.
It’s very cool and would be great to have if I where new to Catan or board gaming in general. Since I have it I’ll do a hard pass.
