Hello Internet and DRTV! I have been a fan of your channel for several years now. You guys made me decide to buy a Nikon D90 back in the day and also purchased a Nikkor 50mm 1.4G lens. Kai has inspired me to try out Street Photography and now I am pretty much obsessed with the genre. I even bought a Leica M6 because of my passion for street photography. Now I am missing Kai's antics in Hong Kong shooting Old ladies pushing a trolley. I even made my own channel dedicated to Street Photography all thanks to the DRTV team! If ever you guys stumble upon my side of TH-cam, It would be an honor. Cheers and Happy Shooting!

The D500 is probably a better camera for those who want to shoot in daylight with a telephoto lens since the crop sensor actually gives you more reach.
The best think about the D5 is I probably can get the D4 cheaper now.
Couple of comments - the D5 now takes 30 minutes of 4k video with the release of a firmware upgrade which was released a couple of weeks ago. Also, if you put the D5 in something called "Silent Live View", it can take 30 FPS (yeah I said 30) - try it but make sure you have a large XQD in the camera!
14fps focus lock isn't useless. I actually use it quite more often than my previous D4 for handheld HDR, and I absolutely love it.

Great review but honestly, the D3 still does the job for most applications. I only wish I could find competent En_El4a batteries for it instead of 3rd party.
They seem to get along well. There's a chemistry there that I like.
I like how Paul just shows up in of the videos, him and Kai makes for a fun duo.

yes the d5 has slightly wider focus and and extra frame per second. however, anyone that believe that it is vastly better than the d4s is in need of a mental evaluation. the d5 is only worth buying if you do a lot of night shooting. the d4s is still a better all round camera.

I think he put it best when he said, "why would anyone use this for video?" Those are my sentiments exactly! How about a D5 version WITHOUT video. How much would that run? Seriously, why does a PROFESSIONAL photographers camera have video? I will never once use it professionally for video and I can't think of a professional photographer who will. Just think of what they could do with it if they put their resources fully back into photography and got out of video with the flagships.
The whole time Kai is lusting over the 12fps, all I could think was "hasn't the Canon 1Dx been doing 12fps since 2011?"

For those who think D500 has the the same AF as D5, actually it is not "exactly" the same. Numbers on spec sheet may appear to be identical, and Nikon's marketing claims that it is the same. However, tests showed otherwise ( you can find test results and discussion at dpreview). AF on D500 performs a little behind D5. And D5 AF performed quite noticeably better under very low light condition. I do own both D5 and D500. I too noticed the same thing with my D500.
I wish I had bookmarked a site that I read about some pro photographer talked with Tech at Nikon. That tech guy mentioned about D500 AF is in fact "less powerful" even though it has the same number of AF features as D5.

I use a D5200 still, unfortunately bound to the financial picture. But yeah, I would love to have either a D500 or a D5 or something similar, along with the lenses since I only have 2 so far, not including a kit lens....

Unless you need to take pictures of black cats in coal cellars, the D500 seems a better proposition. More reach, less weight etc....
More reach is in no universal way a better quality than less reach.
brooped It is if you spend the majority of your photographic life shooting things that are a long way away ie using large heavy lenses.
Keith Spillett Now, I did say "universal", did I not. A conditional situation hardly complies with that. It may be good for you, it undoubtedly is, but that certainly does not make it better for everybody. A lot of people would argue that it's the worst thing ever. Maybe go ask about it from a interior architecture photographer or something.
+brooped The D5 isn't the first camera that interior photographers would choose, surely? A D810 or 750 would be far more suitable on the Nikon front, or EOS5 variant from Canon or a Sony A7R.
Keith Spillett Yes, I doubt any interior photographer would choose the D5. I was merely commenting on what you said about reach. Let's just say that a very large body of professional photographers would choose a FF sensor over a crop sensor any day of the week.
