I love this seat mount idea. I'm about to steal it... after I buy these mounts, of course. Also, do you think you'll need to trim the attachment screws prior to upholstery to prevent them poking you in the butt or will the padding be sufficient to cover them? Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!
Considering this was your first attempt at fibre glass seating, it looks pretty good to me, man! Everyday's a school day when watching your videos, dude! There's always something to learn from you! Keep up the awesome work! All the very best to you and your family at this time of the year and I hope that 2023 is kind to you! Take it easy, Andy 🍻🤘💜
Nicely done. Fiberglass is a learning curve for sure. I find cloth to be easier to work with, but my experience is with aircraft repair. Full fabrication from glass is something I have yet to dive into. Great lookin part for the project hoss!!
RacerTV has a video about the divine proportions of a cafe racer , the size of the fuel tank compared to the seat, and other components, happy holidays.
I do think people can get a bit down in the weeds with how something is "supposed to" look and not let the bike tell you what it needs. Proportions are definitely important but there must be some freedom in there
Nice dude, I use FRP quite a lot on my stuff, your imagination is the only limitation 👍🏼 if I can pass on a tip, if you rip the fibreglass rather than cut it, it will flow in to the next layer much nicer and have a more consistent thickness 👍🏼 Also once you finish, I run over it with some 80grit quickly just to take off any spikes that love to find your fingers when you least expect it 🙈 Happy new year dude, all the best Wayne 👍🏼
A plastic spreader along with a trimmed paint brush starting with the unidirectional glass first layer would have helped to lay it down. Styrofoam for backing / support can be fit prior to glassing the scraped out with kitchen fork after. If possible immediately after laying the last resin coat use a vacuum clothing storage bag to draw out the air. Shortly after set up use heat gun at medium heat for final hardening. 👍✌
Thank you. I have many wiring videos on the channel. Coils are simple with either one or two wires depending on your ignition system. You just need to refer to a diagram that is correct for your ignition system and go by that
You are definitely NOT 'an idiot'! I don't know what part of the country you live in and you may not have the access to fiberglass materials that we have here with our large boating community. If possible you should check on the availability of fabmat in your area. This is for building up an area on either side of your center flat bar seat support. I really appreciate your logical approach. I would suggest that you focus more on resin saturation. You are off to a suburb start. In time you will come to understand that fiberglass work has to be done in it's own area especially the grinding and sanding. Keep at it. Be well, Tom.
Trying something similar today but completely missed the mark on making a frame which looks really nice. I have a fibreglass seat pan (3-4 layers) made that I was thinking of putting rivet nuts in for fasteners. You think it will hold up or you think it will crack on me? Also a bit worried if it would actually hold the seat in place with 4 bolts into fibreglass.
Thats hard to say for sure. Id use your best judgement on that. If you are worried about it and have the ability to make changes before its covered I'd say go for it.
I do not know how much I used. I try to mix a small amount at a time as it cures quickly. For the second question I'm not sure either. As many as it takes to seem sturdy
Not sure who you go through for upholstery, but it is the hardest thing to find a video of on TH-cam. If they are willing to take any footage as they attach the fabric to the fiberglass, please have them take it and feature it in a future video!
As others have said on here already,I ALWAYS learn something (or get ideas) from watching Your video's!!! Enjoyed watching this one,and I think it looks great so far!!! LOVE the button extractions!!! : >)
Hi! I have a question completely unrelated to a fiberglass seat ... It's about headsets, or at least that's what we call them on bicycles. You know what I mean. In motorbike restoration videos, I always see the old style loose bearing -balls-in grease being replaced. I don't think I've ever seen the races being replaced. But more to the point, even with 50 year old steel racing bicycles, you can replace a shot old headset with a brand new, 1 inch, sealed bearing headset. It wouldn't be period correct of course, but will work far better. So how about motorbikes, where a headset is much less visible, so period correct shouldn't be a problem. No sealed bearing replacements available?
Keep doing the vids...but suggesting break up the music stuff with more quick explanation of some stuff...like zip tie on tire when fitting rim for us not so knowledgeable people....keep it short and to the point so those more on it don't get to annoyed with us not so clever...lol.
The CBX is still at the last point I had it. My goal has been to finish the engine this winter but unfortunately I have had many things happen in life that do not allow me much time in the shop. Due to that progress on all bikes has been slowed even further which hurts.
I'll definitely show when it gets covered. I chat with Dan often and he is a great dude. I love working with the guy who does my seats as he is very creative and will do much better than I could
Use a little more resin bj,,the finish looks far to dry Have a good Christmas When adding metal put a layer of wet glass underneath to help bond correctly
This is by far the best seat video I can find. The quick release element is fantastic. Loving the content.
@@Felixmfox glad you found it helpful!

Cool, fiberglass. Glass dust everywhere... ahhh! heh. Fantastic job.

Can't wait to see the finished work
Same, lots of ideas!
Love the quick release idea. I wished I saw this before I made my NX650 ^^. Thanks for all your videos!
Thank ya!
Great stuff again. No clue how you come up with this stuff. Genius
Thanks dude!
Like it that you still have that grinder. I have tools my father used and it makes it a little special everytime using them. Dowidat wrenches.
Exactly. They just mean a bit extra when you use them
Nice work that is going to look awesome
Thank ya!
Awesome Job on the seat, always lovin your videos, makes me feel like I can do this after watching you explain it so well, thanks, you're sick.
Thanks so much! Happy to take the mystery out of this stuff
Thanks, always a insperation for ideas.
I think it turned out real nice, clean simple lines lightweight and yet still strong and no you’re not an idiot.
Many thanks!
Impressive as allways

great to see you doing fabrication - you and yours have a great Christmas and a happy new year

Yes the screws will be trimmed. I felt it was obvious so I never addressed it in the video.
Nice work BJ seat latch is trick!

Much appreciated Andy! Luckily I had done the cowel and some other repairs so I had the basics down

Custom bikes are pieces of art. Art is subjective. No rules

Hi, Nicevjob., looks and fit great. I bet you had some dust in you workshop after that.
Thank you! It wasn't bad dust wise. I just kept cleaning as I went before it became a big mess
Hello! great video. Can you share the fiberglass resin and hardener you used? thank you
It's just generic stuff you can find at an auto parts store. I don't even know a brand
Pl;ease tell us more about those buttons and pins? Where can one get them?
As mentioned the video they are linked in the description

I'll ask. My guy would probably be willing to. Its just glue though
@@BrickHouseBuilds so they just wrap it and use an adhesive on the underside?
Yes, with mine I usually bolt them down to the frame which helps hold the material in place

Not sealed bearings but taper roller bearings. Very common conversion actually. I do it on pretty much every bike
@@BrickHouseBuilds oh ok. They come as a unit, like standardized sizes, just put them in and that's it?
@@BrickHouseBuilds I looked it up quickly, on ebay. Yeah, readily available in all sizes. And now I know they're called 'headstock' ... 😁
@@freekfaro5606 check out allballsracing as they make a kit or conversion bearing set for about everything
@@BrickHouseBuilds wow, that is impressive.

Are the quick release M6 or 1/4-20?
M6 👍

Yes it's already in the description. Check the Amazon link

When adding metal put a layer of wet glass underneath to help bond correctly
I did also use two different resins so the purple and tan may be adding to that effect. Noted though
Im building one out of wood.
Also works fine just can't get complex bends
@@BrickHouseBuilds Well, you can you just need to start out with a big block of wood and grind out the bend.
