    You just got me a 200$ d610 with 50mm. Had stuck (not working shutter) i saw this, tried it, and whalla. Thank you, the guy selling it wasnt so happy when i checked it, knew the issue, payed him, then fixed in under 10 seconds. He said, Damn! How did you know that. I said i watched a youtube about it, saw you have one with same issue for sale cheap. I got lucky. He didnt know i pushed it over while looking at camera, realized it was fixable. Than paid, it was that easy. He really only needed to tap it some. Hehe, thank you. I look for d610 shutter sticking issues for sale.

    Thank you so much. You helped me fix my D750 and saved me the frustration of sending it to Nikon service center. I wonder why the mirror gets stuck to the casing for so many people.

    Thanks so much!!!!! I was about to sell all my gear because my D610 was "broken". I've just followed your advice and a miracle just happened :D. This only happened to me after long periods of no usage, but now it was permanent. THANKS SO MUCH!

    Dude, I should have listened to you the first time!! I had this problem, thought it was different because it didn't seemed jammed when I lifted up the mirror, and so I sent it in, and paid $600 for repairs (well actually $800 because my flash was broken too which Nikon forced me to fix, grrr). Then, conveniently right after the Nikon warranty of the repair expired, it happened AGAIN. Exact same "ERR" message, exact same thing with the mirror not going up. I was so furious I revisited this video and pried it like you said and voila it works. I am so thankful to you, and absolutely DESPISE Nikon now. It was such an easy fix - took me 30 seconds - but, no, Nikon told me I had to send my camera across Canada to pay them $600 for it. A big finger flip to Nikon and a big hug to James Black for this video.

    Thank you so much, it worked! The mirror in my Nikon D610 was not going up for some reason but it wasn't really stuck, I could lift it up with ease. So I used the screwdriver to keep it up while I pressed the release button multiple times and it worked! Saved me a trip to the repair shop. Much appreciated!

    wow. i cant believe a 2017 video saved me lots of money and stress today in 2021.I use a D600 and D90, but i use more the D90 as i still need better lens for my D600. I am busy packing my gear for camping weekend and i decided to test the D90 before packing, and for some reason, it just didnt sound right, so took did what you did aswell, checked the photo and for me, it was complete black. Tested without lens and thats when i saw that mirror wasnt moving at all. Quick search on youtube, and this video was #1 on the list. Now my D600 is working fine. Thank you James.

    legend! ive been having this issue on and off for a year or so with my nikon d610, it would often just do this then start working eventually after multiple frustrated atempts at just hitting the shutter button hoping it would fix itself, but after it happened again and my belligerent fix didnt work i found this video and it worked perfectly, exactly what i needed, and i was also about to contact a repair store and possibly not have my only decent camera for my daughters end of year performance tonight. life saver. may good things come your way and keep up the great work mate

    Wow! Someone asked me to photograph his D600 and I started fiddling with it. I'm a Canon guy, so I was getting used to the Nikon menus and what not, and I thought I had messed up something, until I realized the mirror wasn't moving when taking photos, and the live preview was 90% black. I thought I was in trouble because it would have been easy for my friend to assume that I had ruined his camera. Your video helped me fix it, so my arse is saved, thanks to you!

    like many others have said! thank you so much!! I had already printed my nikon repair label and was planning on taking it to fedex tuesday to ship for repair when thankfully it was raining today and I was killing time and happened across this video...in my case I was an hour in to a milkyway time lapse when suddenly the images were all cut off other than the top 3rd....took me all of 6 minutes to fix...5:21 was watching your entire video before attacking the DIY repair...plastic screwdriver carefully placed to nudge the right side of the camera body and 1 press of the button and bam! fully working camera again! ... on a downside I was hoping nikon would say the fix was big $$ at which point thats all the excuse I needed to get a new 850 ;)

    I have a D810 and dropped my camera from about 3 feet onto a concrete floor. Banged the top corner by the play button. Had the same issue, but it was on the opposite side you had shown. I thought is was the lens. I did the same as you described and heard a snap and the mirror must have popped back into place. I will check the focus when back in the studio to compare to my other 810. Thanks a ton! Saved my some money.

    • @JamesBlackPhoto
      @JamesBlackPhoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. I'm not sure what that would be. I would maybe try going back in and separating the wall from the mirror just a little bit more. If you do just be very careful and don't apply too much pressure, don't want to damage the mirror.

    It happened to my d90 as well.. But instead of doing that diy repair thing as you demonstrated.. I immediately went to Nikon store for repair. I rather spend extra money for the repair... It is risky to do that diy repair because it will cause more damage to the camera, especially other mechanical parts... And nikon repaired the mirror of my camera without changing any mechanical parts plus they also cleaned the sensor.

    Loved your video especially the beginning which put your camera malfunction in context. As a professional photographer myself I can well imagine how upsetting it was to have a camera malfunction in the middle of an important job. That said I recently began getting the dreaded err message on my Nikon D610. I at first thought that the shutter had failed but when I checked my records I discovered that the camera had only around 50,000 shutter actuations so that seemed less likely. After viewing your video I tried gently prying on the right side of the mirror and it fixed the problem! I do wonder what caused the mirror to stick down in the first place so I probably won't be using the camera for critical jobs in the future. But it may serve for less critical work. Thanks for sharing your tip!

    I'm having similar issues with my D700. I know it isn't a new camera by nowaday standards but still does the job. However, it started to show its age recently when I took it out to have a few snaps with it.
    It was sitting for about 5 months in the safe and I do recall it working in February. Out of so many shots it failed to open the shutter but it was like 2 out of a 100 shots. After those months it was sitting it started to struggle to open the shutter at all. It took me over 100 attemps to get it back to swing. I tried and tried to force it to open the shutter with the release button and the aperture preview button until it gave and started to work again.
    I'm gonna test it today for an hour or so to see if it fails again. I wanted to give it to my brother as a gift but I'm unsure if it is actually worth to be gifted.

    • @Gourmondise
      @Gourmondise ปีที่แล้ว

      Update - as of today I have fired up the D700 and it worked for some unknown reason. Then it started to do it's error again. I figured that it has to be related to the mirror box as it won't open the shutter not flip the mirror up when the error happens. Still not 100% sure what is causing the issue.

    My shutter mirror glass (mirror box) fell out of the body. It would get locked up, when I try to take photo. I can see the inner box move but it get jam. I did not inspect the lever. I was looking to replace the Camera with something better but it's cheaper on sending my Nikon D3200 for repair through Nikon. Should I also have them inspect the sensor? Since the D3200 fell onto the floor from the counter top.

    Mine is stuck halfway and I'm afraid to do it myself because I might break something but I'll try this one and hope this works.

    i really hoped this would help. i’m 13 and i love photography i have since i was 8. it’s been a big part of my life with my grandfather being a professional photographer.. i got a camera about a year ago.. (Nikon D40) and it will work for one or two shots then say “Error. Press shutter release button again.” it’s super heartbreaking since the only other camera i currently have is a Canon Powershot, which is a great camera.. i just love shooting with the D40! i really can’t afford to get it fixed professionally and my grandfather currently lives hours away and i don’t get to see him. i miss taking pictures of wildlife and plants and i just moved to a gorgeous state that’s blooming with exactly that. i don’t know what to do! if anyone can help please do! i feel so sad!

      you decided 13 year old camera would be a ideal starter camera? getting it fixed would cost more than buying a entirely new camera. bruh it's like $120. get a get a newer camera in the 3000 series, all of them have 4 times the megapixel count, features, and actually don't cost that much lol.

      Hentai my bad.. i didn’t buy any of my cameras personally and really don’t know much about the cameras themselves.. i know i really should learn and i’m trying i just have a lot going on. i’m most likely going to buy a new camera, it was just a little sad.

    See I have a problem with my d5600, it’s not stuck, it acts like it’s taking a picture but still tells me error shutter release, so do I just lift the mirror a little and try taking a picture to see if it works or?

  • @khanscombe619

    I’m experiencing the opposite issue, mirror is getting stuck up & even after power off or battery out. It was random but now it’s stuff for an hour & I had to leave. So idk
