I have a similar problem, but on my D5000. I can shoot 1/250 s exposures and shorter, but the images come out darker than normal and out of focus. Longer exposures result in "Error press the shutter release button again". I tried lifting the curtain several times, but it hasn't helped. Any ideas??
mistaskate Try removing the battery and leave it out for a minute. Years ago my two Nikon F4 film cameras gave erroneous readings in the viewfinder. That took care of it. Worth a try.
pederhsx Interesting, I remember trying that with mine and it didn't work. Glad you got yours working. Amazing so many people have that issue with various models.
@@starastronomer Dear i did as you mentioned .......briefly the err message went away .....i was able to auto focus . but soon as i clicked . The shutter is stuck again ....i guess the long stay in the dry cabinet has caused the greasing to o away . and that is the reason it is getting stuck ....
@@starastronomer I have not tried the 1 sec exposure .......in my d90 the shutter levers when i push it up only 75% of the shutter goes up ...the balance 25% stays as it is ....i guess its the lower half of the shutter ......meaning the shutter is made of 2 halves upper and lower . i reckon
This was a great find. I had the "Err" msg on my d600 I'm using for meetings and videos. I suspect that the constant mirror up use for having it in "Live" helped cause this issue. Now I know what you're thinking, the d600 is not a great video/streaming body. I'm aware, but it's just sitting around with zero purpose, so I thought why not. Anyway, the mirror just needed a little nudge, but it's operating like normal now. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for your video, my issue was on a D600 and as a result of playing around, I worked out it wasn't the shutter but the mirror that was stuck. Flicking it up and down and switching to Mup mode fixed my problem. Just thought I would share my fix. Hopefully it is not a sign that my camera is on it's way out.
HEY MAN, I HAVE A PROBLEM ON MY NIKON D90, IT SAYS ERR, AND WHEN I PRESS THE SHUTTER BUTTON, IT DOESN'T TAKE THE PHOTO, AND IT KEEPS TRYING LIKE SOMETHING IS STUCK, DO YOU KNOW ANY WAY TO FIX IT?
@@starastronomer its not possible for me, on nikon d90 you don't get that part where you can sort of move the shutter, maybe if you have another idea, it would help
haha this even worked with a Nikon D610. Shutter must have got sticky through lack of use. Didn't actually push any levers but mucked about with mirror up and shutter for a bit and suddenly it started working. Thanks!
OMG... this saved me D610. I understood that the shutter isnt working. So I gently pushed around the mirrors (which were stuck) with a qtip and kept clicking on the shutter button. the lens released and I am back in action. This video is awesome and looking forward to my shoot with bautiful Sakura background. Thanks heaps for sharing.
No need for the story of you'r life before the issue. Get to the point. Just tell us what wrong not all the things that have nothing to do to the issue. We didn't come to hear you drone on get to the point.

I tried that too. But I'll leave it out over night too. Can't hurt.
Other suggestions?
Not really. Hope you get it working.
I just fixed a D600 by manually holding the mirror up while firing the shutter. Thanks for the help.
pederhsx Interesting, I remember trying that with mine and it didn't work. Glad you got yours working. Amazing so many people have that issue with various models.
i'm having the same issue ...but did not understand what exactly you are pushing down ....Could you help
Not pushing down. I gently pushed up on the shutter.

Interesting....... Did you give it another "push"? Also, try 1 second exposures, one after another to see how that might help.

You're welcome Tito Nunes!!!
Thank you for taking the time to share this info.
You're very welcomed!
My D200 just seems to do this. After i press the button, the shutter clicks once, then the err comes on.
This worked a treat on my d750... saving me a few hundred £s by one estimation. Thank you!
You're welcome Martin!
How did you do this my 750 doesn't have those arms
I just don't get which arm to push tbh. I might just be blind but I can't see any arm on my d70s.
Top part of the shutter curtain.

Did you find a solution for your D90?
It kinda fixed it but now it works a few times then the shutter is just going up and and not comming down
Hi. My mirror doesn't come down either. Have you found a solution? Thank you
I honestly cant see what you're pushing down on
Had the mirror stuck on my d70s, tried this out and it fixed my issue!
Thanks for that information @masonharris7280
Did exactly what you did and it broke the piece inside off. Now it's definitely broken for good. Oh well.

Good news.
On a D80 and I don’t see any arms?
Not familiar with the D80. Be very careful. POSSIBLY very gently lift up on the shutter???
did you end up fixing it because my d80 also has the same issue but I don't see a way to fix it.
SOS AMAZING IT WORKED!!! I ALMOST THREW AWAY MY CAMERA JUST NOW!!!!
K Glad to hear you didn't throw out the camera and it is back working.
