The reason she can sing so high is because she's not over- doing breath support, and she's lightening/using more head voice as she sings higher. You can also see how released her jaw is. I'm a voice teacher, and YES, her technique is phenomenal. You cannot sing that high with so much ease unless you are doing things right. Her voice is a gift to all of us.
The beauty of her timbre and her superior singing technique are attached to an unheard-of german diction, simply unbelievable. And when a singer is gifted with a perfect technique you sometimes have the feeling of a certain detachment. Not with her! The listener has the impression that every word comes from the depths of her heart. Soo rare to be heard! I have been a fan of her for so many years.

I had heard many sopranos singing this birdlike Strauss waltz but i was never mesmerized till I listen to this great colatura soprano. Its so relaxing I almost fall asleep.
She is marvelous here, her voice is so girlishly light and effortless in joyful expression. Patricia Janeckova is awesome too, but Ingeborg is the queen of this song.

Diction disappeared after the 1960s. In French, it's the same: up until that time, if you listened to the singers, you could understand every word of the libretto from beginning to end. Today, when you listen to them, it's not even that you can't understand what they're saying: you don't even know what language they're singing in.

just think how bad music has gotten. from this glorious beauty to the vacuous auto-tuned nonsense of today. how far we've fallen. i got into classical music a few years ago, I'm only 37 so i got here just in time. i have a playlist that makes me cry when i listen to it. completely and utterly magnificent. words fail to express the feelings that classical music forces onto you

Das ist bestimmt nicht wahr. Es gibt so viele bessere Sopranistinnen: Renate Holm, Anneliese Rothenberger, Erna Berger, Elfie Mayerhofer, Marta Eggerth, Regula Mühlemann u.v.a. Hallstein wird sehr überschätzt. Ihre Karriere war sehr kurz, denn ihre Stimme verschlechterte sich rapide und war im Alter von 39 Jahren völlig ruiniert. Andere Sopranistinnen, wie zum Beispiel die oben genannten, sangen noch viel länger großartig, manche bis zum Alter von 60 Jahren oder sogar noch älter. (Natürlich wissen wir noch nicht, wie lange Regula Mühlemann noch singen wird, aber sie wird in ihren Dreißigern immer besser, im Gegensatz zu Hallstein, der immer schlechter wurde.)

Ich habe mir jetzt mal Rothenberger angehört. Ihre Stimme hat nicht diese Leichtigkeit. Ich würde sie also bestimmt nicht über Hallstein stellen, mag auch ihre Karriere länger gewesen sein.
i agree, she is a gift in every sense. i also think the same about maria callas. habanero from carmen makes the hairs stand up. we are so lucky to be alive, to have working ears and for there to be music to hear haha. thanks for your reply

Oper und Operette gehoert hat, kann man sich eine fundierte Meinung, wenn auch subjektiv, erlauben zu aeussern : Ingeborg Hallstein ist unter den Koloratursopranistinnen das, was Fritz Wunderlich bei den lyrischen Tenören war : schlichtweg die Beste, mit der besten Technik, Artikulation und schoensten Stimme. Und sehr schoen war sie auch. Ihr Kanal ist eine wahre Schatztruhe an Perlen, recht herzlichen Dank fuer Ihren Einsatz an Zeit und Geld, diese Perlen der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung zu stellen. Das kann man gar nicht genug loben und wertschaetzen!

Wie will man das entscheiden? Wer den höchsten Ton trifft? Wer den tiefsten? Wer am kraftvollsten singt? Wer am dramaturgischsten? Wer den Ton am la engsten haelt? Wessen Interpretation am schoensten ist? Wer am vielseitigsten ist? Es ist schlichtweg unmöglich das sachlich zu bestimmen und wird auch den vielen anderen nicht gerecht. Frau Holm und Koeth waren auch ausgezeichnete Könner ihres Fachs, ohne Frage.

I love this, but also Kathleen Battle in the New Year’s concert in Vienna in 1987.
Ingeborg and and Lucia Popp's versions are my favorite performances of this aria.

I love her German diction. It's so clear. I can understand every single word she sings, even at high tessitura passages, unlike Natalie Dessay.
