The car still remains my favorite experience, and why I miss stick shift manual. It's crazy how expensive it has gotten over the years. A testament how people idolize older Japanese builds in the US these days.
I had the pleasure of owning a 1999 ITR DC2 here in Melbourne (Australia).... in which I clocked up 165,000 kms (from new) & enjoyed 13 track days during my 5.5 years of driving nirvana. I was utterly addicted to the VTEC scream of the B18C engine, the wonderfully slick gearbox, dynamic handling & complete package of Honda engineering. Even 17 years on & after driving many higher spec cars, the memories of the DC2 remain as some of my best driving experiences ==> I would buy another one anytime, for future track fun!

Great video. One thing worth noting was how the '97 and '98 Type Rs didn't sell well in the US because buyers saw the GS-R as the better deal. American market didn't really know what it was. Even insurance companies didn't. Insurance was cheaper on it because they listed it as the RS model.
This is precisely why I picked up a DC5 ITR last month. It’s not as raw as the DC2 but I saw the prices jump from 8k to almost 15k sometimes 20k and thought now or never.

The one I own in the picture here is a 96 JDM ITR Type R. It has a turbo and is running 359 bhp and 275 ft-lb's of torque. The turbo kicks in at 3 and half thousand revs and the vetec kicks as normal, there is roughly 137,000 kms on the car; but when the turbo went in it had a brand new engine built for it which only has 16,000 kms 10,000 miles on it now. It is road legal and will do sub 12 second quarter mile. It is off the road at the moment; but when I had it on the road, I had it insured for only 780 Euro and I told the insurance company it had a turbo. Best car I've ever owned, I love it, can't wait to have it back on the road. I also think sometimes of bringing it back to standard, I have the parts. And I know it would be worth more money that way, but the way it is now is such a rush to drive.
@@zodiac8786 that’s a lie. I had a 94 Integra RS. The rockers were completely ate away. Parts of the trunk had holes you can see out of. Honda’s 2006 and newer are less prone to rust.
In the UK it's a similar story. I saved up all my young guy pennies and still had to borrow half what the car cost me. Wiped me clean, needs thousands of pounds in work and does less than 200 miles to a tank. And none of that affects my love for it. It's a magical car to drive. Just magical, can't even find words for it
Fantastic video, the Integra Type R has always been one of my dream cars. Unfortunately, here in Australia DC2 prices have basically tripled in the last 5 years (you used to be able to pick one up for less than 10 grand). The EP3 and DC5 are also slowly creeping up as well, although not to the same extent as the DC2. I think it's probably time to put my dreams of owning a classic Type R Honda on hold for now.
Yeah, I know what you mean... I sold my Aussie 1999 DC2 back in Aug 2005 for $19,500 - after 165,000 kms & 13 track days (Winton, Wakefield, Oran Park, Phillip Island). I couldn't believe it, when I looked up prices today (Sept 2022) & they are now between AUD $30-50,000 (with most having 120-230,000+ kms & few left unmodded). If I had the spare cash, I'd buy another one in a heart beat... as it was such a joy to drive on both the road & track, with bullet-proof mechanicals. Most modern sports cars I've driven since (maybe faster etc) - but lacked dialled-in package, driver connection, raw character & feel of the ITR (that I still miss 17 years on)!

I had a chance to buy Type R back in 2000 but the dealership wanted extra $5000 on top of MSRP. It was the only brand new type R in town. I couldn't pull the trigger so I ended up buying GSR instead which I still drive today. And yes it got broken into 3 months after I bought it when I parked in shopping plaza for couple hours.
Not just the type r now any clean honda is sky rocketed. I saw a integra sedan automatic all stock guy wants 8k. My unicorn em1 is out of my reach now.
It's crazy how these older JDM cars are jumping up in price out of nowhere. Like there were Hondas I've seen when I was a kid being sold for 1,000 bucks while now being sold for over 20k.

Here In Greece there was a mint condition white DC-2 Type R for sale just for 12k Euro. Could jave been a good investment but i could not afford it unfortunately. Taxes are ridiculous here
I bought ITR184-01 brand new back in Dec 2000 for $28k. Put 67k on it 7 years, and sold it for $16.5k. It was decent for it's time, but never thought anything from Japan would be this collectable later on down. road.
That last statement about riding your own car last time before selling is true. Sold my Mercedez benz w176 a day later than the agreed date, had a curb rash on the bumper. Good thing it's not that deep and can be fixed in 300usd :D

My '94 Integra LS had been broken into a few times now although never stolen; I'm guessing because it's a 5-speed.
Dude, if there's no rust on that baby, dont ever let it go. Make sure you do rust proofing yearly
