It's only ever been Aberdeen that could challenge. They were led by Stewart Milne for 25 year and stalled. He was only interested in letting Pittodrie run down so he could turn it into flats. History has absolutely destroyed everything he said during his time as chairman. Now they have an active chairman again who is interested in taking on the old firm and we can see the difference finally, after a succession of poor managerial appointments they look to have hit the jackpot and the club is now in the best place it's been since the early 1990's.

You must have missed that. We sold Miovski for millions which is going straight back into the player budget for January. We have an excellent manager who is the envy of much bigger clubs. We have a large squad full of players who can come on and win games. There are plans in place to sell them all on at the right time like Miovski. This is only the beginning. Dons are on the way up, this is not Hearts last season taking advantage of everyone else outside the old firm being poor, we're level with Celtic after 11 games, It's one of Celtics best starts to a season ever. Boyd sayin hearts could win it, what a walapper… he’s the gift that keep on giving. As for the old firm dominating, rangers have only won 2 trophies in their 12 year existence… only Celtic dominating the SPL.
The wage budget of the top EPL teams is around x3 what Brighton's is, and they haven't broken their dominance. Celtic's wage budget is x8 that of the nearest SPL team (ignoring Sevco), there's no way Hearts (or Aberdeen) are going to break that dominance.
Strachan clearly doesn't have the first clue about Bloom and Brighton. Look at Union Saint-Gilloise, Como, Castellon. This is potentially a massive game changer for Hearts, albeit would be our luck to be the Jamestown outlier
yes he does and he explained its a great tool if used properly its not a quick fix or miracle cure, even if hearts can identify these players there is still a tiny number of potential cheap gems and everyone will be after them
@simonpeyton-n3h He made some decent points but then just said , everyone including Manchester United has data, completely missing the differential that Brighton have, so such so that Liverpool wanted to buy their data model and Chelsea poaching half their staff
The challenge is, no club has cemented their place as 3rd best. Nevermind truly challenging for the title. You want to see the consistency and stability of the other clubs. Then use that as a foundation to take that next step. Recruitment and development are crucial. Also, outside Glasgow - no prime players will consider other teams. Even if they could meet the transfer fee. So you need a good academy to create renewable resources of talent.
It’s highly unlikely, but realistically it’s not impossible. Aberdeen obviously are on the up, great manager and the club is being run correctly. Hearts may well turn a corner with Bloom’s involvement in the club even if they’ve been poor, they need to look to copy the blueprint that Aberdeen are following. I don’t see anyone else getting to that point, Hibs would need to seriously sort themselves out and no other club is big enough. Although the main thing that could make it possible one day would be the demise of the two Glasgow teams. Rangers are financially struggling again and I don’t think anyone, even their own fans would be overly surprised to see administration/liquidation happen over the next 5 seasons or so. But naturally the main blockade would be Celtic, by far the best team in Scotland and financially very stable, as things are it’s unlikely but the one big problem Celtic may face in the coming years (like is a possibility at rangers but less likely) is the ch*ld ab*se history causing them problems, we know that lawyers are supporting victims and things are underway behind the scenes, with the amount of accusations, there’s a chance that reparations may have to be paid if things go as far as court, and looking into history at cases like so, the payments will be into the millions, if several people club together asking for reparations, it could quite easily rise to the tens of millions and could potentially cause Celtic financial problems down the line. Although the way things are at Celtic at the moment, this is about the only thing that could knock them off of their perch. So in conclusion, it’s possible but highly unlikely that someone outwith the Glasgow 2 will win the Premiership in the next 50 years.

I’ve been saying for a while that it shouldn’t be hard to challenge, but to win relies on both having calculate seasons or the provincial club to have an exceptional season. The problem is clubs like hearts and Aberdeen accept mediocrity. Win every other game is ok. Beat rangers at ibrox and loss at home to st Mirren is ok. That’s not accepted in Glasgow’s a draw is a disaster. Aberdeen are doing what I’ve been saying. You need to get players with the mentality of keep going until you win. The same mentality that’s a must in Glasgow. Ignore the games against the OF and concentrate on winning the 16 home games against the other. That’s 48 points. That’s halfway to a challenge. Aim for ten wins away is another 30 points. Points against the OF are then a bonus. You’ll either have the OF taking points off each other, which allows you in to challenge, or one will smell the other and run away and gives you a chance of second. It’s about mentality, and clubs outside Glasgow don’t have it and seem to ok with not having it.
That’s just not true. The money gap is so huge that they can’t possibly compete over the full course of a season. The wealth disparity between a team like Motherwell and Celtic is 10 times MORE than Leicester to Man City at the time. It’s like expecting Barnsley to win the PL over Liverpool and Man City.
@@daviebananas1735 Aberdeen will either prove or disprove that theory......if Rangers finish 3rd then the money isn't as big a factor as we all think(if they finish 4th then it blows the theory out of the water). The key will be in the "over the course of a season" part but I agree that so far teams have had decent runs that couldn't be maintained due to the shallow squad depth that less money causes.
It’s impossible for anyone other than Rangers or Celtic to win the league whilst the league is in its current format. If the league was increased to 16-18 teams then you’d see a much smaller gap. As it is teams need to face the old firm 4 times each a season and the gulf is too big. If it was only twice a season it’d be a lot different.
@ The money IS a factor. It’s that there’s TWO teams who are far and away ahead of the others. Even if one has a crisis and goes though a bad spell, as is wont to happen occasionally to any team, the other big boy will be there to step up and win the league. The chances of two teams with such overpowered spending being overtaken by another team is extremely low.
'Old Firm dominance' lol what is this 2006? One team dominates Scottish football top to bottom. One team is equipped to compete in the Champions League. One team is posting 100m+ revenues and growing. Please park this Old Firm nonsense as it causes huge confusion.
Regardless of domination, as recently as a few years ago rangers won the league, and probably will in the next decade or so, if not sooner. The question is about how it’s been 40 years since a club other than those two won it.

@@daviebananas1735 Right and no other side other than Celtic has won the title (outside of a global pandemic year in which anomalic winners appeared in Spain, England, France, Italy and Portugal too) in 13 years. So why, if we have 13 year spell of total dominance from one side would we talk about a 40 year spell of total dominance by 2 sides? You'd assume because the 2 sides are growing at similar rates compared to the competitors right? But that would be wrong. One of those sides was literally liquidated. The gap between those 2 sides grows at a greater rate than the gap between the rest and Rangers. In fact, there's a very valid argument with Aberdeen 9 points ahead and Hearts evolving behind the scenes that the gap between the others and Rangers is shrinking - and yet we talk about whether the TWO sides will continue a dominance which ended 13 years ago? Why? Because the Old Firm tag sustains despite the reality. There is no more ying and yang, there is a singularity and the singularity is Celtic. THAT is the relevant conversation, unless you're talking about history. But we're supposed to be talking about the future.
The top flight in Scotland should be 20 teams. Everyone plays each other home and away. With in five years the league will attract better sponsors more broadcast interest and they will start attracting bigger names, inevitably players coming to the end of their careers at first but it would drive up interest.

the reason leicester won it was because all the usual suspects where pretty poor that year and all took points off each other, they also managed to avoid big injuries and little constant niggles so where able to use the same system and roughly same 14 players all season, and had a great spine to the team, kasper in goals,CBs who could defend the box but nothing special, kante in his prime doing 3 jobs in midfield, drinkwater had best season of life, mahrez with his creativity and vardy who ran all day and finished everything, the rest of the team where 7/10 every week consistant,oh and a young ben chilwell at LB aswell, its tougher to win a title up here because you have to play everyone 4 times instead of 2,there is less good teams to take points off the old firm and you need at least 5 or 6 players good enough to also play at celtic or rangers, leicester had all those players who went on to big things,i dont think aberdeen have that just now, maybe one day hearts might with this new recruitment

This is potentially a massive game changer for Hearts, albeit would be our luck to be the Jamestown outlier
yes he does and he explained its a great tool if used properly its not a quick fix or miracle cure, even if hearts can identify these players there is still a tiny number of potential cheap gems and everyone will be after them
@simonpeyton-n3h
He made some decent points but then just said , everyone including Manchester United has data, completely missing the differential that Brighton have, so such so that Liverpool wanted to buy their data model and Chelsea poaching half their staff
Awful watch!!
Boyd really does not like Aberdeen
Waffling on about Hearts ffs
Aberdeen finished second two years on the trot with rangers, hearts and Hibs in the league. Why are these guys so clueless about Scottish football. A lot of chat about hearts also who have contributed nothing and some analytics garbage

Loving seeing aberdeen pushing for 2nd an who knows in a season or 2
R2ngers have been there for the taking for the last 4 years, at least Aberdeen now have a manager that has the belief he can challange.
Do you think a strong mentality could overcome the financial disparity?
@ The money IS a factor. It’s that there’s TWO teams who are far and away ahead of the others. Even if one has a crisis and goes though a bad spell, as is wont to happen occasionally to any team, the other big boy will be there to step up and win the league. The chances of two teams with such overpowered spending being overtaken by another team is extremely low.

The desperation is incredible
'Old Firm dominance' lol what is this 2006?
One team dominates Scottish football top to bottom. One team is equipped to compete in the Champions League. One team is posting 100m+ revenues and growing.
Please park this Old Firm nonsense as it causes huge confusion.
Regardless of domination, as recently as a few years ago rangers won the league, and probably will in the next decade or so, if not sooner. The question is about how it’s been 40 years since a club other than those two won it.
@@daviebananas1735rangers won a covid league where everyone except them was hit with covid lockdowns and team decimations

@ It’s nothing to do with the who is better out of rangers and Celtic!!!! It’s the fact that NO OTHER CLUB HAS WON THE TITLE IN FOUR DECADES. If Aberdeen had won the title three years ago it wouldn’t be a question. Even if it was their only title in 40 years.
To think Hearts can challenge Celtic is absolutely ridiculous. Gulf in finances beyond enormous and will continue to be.
The top flight in Scotland should be 20 teams. Everyone plays each other home and away. With in five years the league will attract better sponsors more broadcast interest and they will start attracting bigger names, inevitably players coming to the end of their careers at first but it would drive up interest.
I'm not even doing a 'there's no old firm' (I mean there isn't but that's not my point). Was this recorded in 2010? How many titles have Rangers won since the year 2000? 6 from 25. 1 of the last 13. I mean who are we kidding here?

Is there still a duopoly? Its now a monopoly, and will be for many many years. Until such time as Celtic may go to a bigger league.
Trading model at "all" clubs that use it is the same. Its about quantity.!! You buy 5 young players & hope 1 sells eventually to cover the losses of the other 4 with an added profit. The % of failures must be close to 70% at clubs like Brighton, Celtic, Porto etc. Yes the % of failure reduces when you spend £10m+. But at the bottom end £1-5m its all the same, its 70% failure. My cousin worked for ladbrokes setting odds, he moved to the stat team of a Eng Preiere League team, seemingly it happens pretty often. Why ? .. because buying young players is educated betting.

It's probably easier for Hearts to win the SPFL, but will they be able to keep the players long enough? Rangers are FAR bigger than Celtic fan base wise. Let me explain and I'm a Hibby remember. Celtic are predominantly RC support and they are only 800k (400k men) of Scotland population of 5.45M
Thus 4.65M people are not RC and not Hoops supporting fans approximately. Of the 4.65M half are women who seldom care about the game with the odd exception.
So 2.3M support all the other teams. Subtract maybe 100k each for Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts and the Tayside teams and all the wee minnow teams leaves the remnant of the population ALL Rangers fans so approx 1.8M support Rangers only 400k the rotten mob lesser green kiddy fiddlers from The Piggery (Parkhead was a Piggery that's factually correct).
