    As with her track 5 being special track on each album, you'll notice going through her discography that she puts in a huge amount of effort and detail into each song, more then other artists I'd say. That also goes for her music videos, she has a ton of Easter eggs referring to other songs, albums, etc. In almost all of them. She really tries to connect with her fans, it's very cool how detail oriented she is

  • @ivy5919

    Taylor history with Big Machine records is kinda special as she was the first to be signed to this label record. His creator, Scott Borchetta went to see Taylor who was playing at a bar and was amazed by her so he went to talk to her and ask her to be his first artist when his label will be created. Taylor was excited to be part of something new and she knew she would be able to write her own songs which was really important for her.

  • @madison8568
    @madison8568 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    So interesting story about her first label. In order to get her first deal she basically set up a show at the Bluebird Cafe (which was no joke 2 minutes from my highschool I lived in Nashville 2005-2019 and grew up there) and she invited all of these people from labels and pitched herself. BiG Machine at the time was in the very beginnings and Taylor took the chance on them which makes the whole thing worse. Taylor took the chance on this label (over going with a bigger already established labels) that barely existed and became their first massive artist and then he turned around and did that.

    I think Taylor's writing has always been remarkable. I like that a detailed backstory or knowledge of her past isn't necessary to understand or connect with her songs. If you happen to know the stories behind lyrics it can be even more meaningful but it's not required. Simply living...having relationships, knowing love, loss, joy, or having empathy...being part of the human experience, allows any person to relate to her songs, in my opinion.
    Taylor's voice and vocal ability have improved exponentially since she debuted. Her voice has matured nicely. I'm sure she's worked on improving and it shows. Taylor's range has definitely grown and I think her tone has more depth now. Good singing technique, her ability to sing with emotion, and Taylor's beautiful melodies have all combined to make me a bigger fan every time I hear her sing.

    I really love this song. And especially this version, because you can really see the emotions in her eyes. It's believed to be about her old record label selling all her masters without giving her the option to by them herself. That's why she is rerecording all of the albums she made while being under this label.

    Thanks for once again going past your comfort zone and giving Taylor a chance to impress you. Yes, her writing style is simple on the surface, apparently vague, and very relatable because of it. Underneath are the layers. Buried words, phrases, and whole motifs for those who know her back story. For those of us who do it makes her music even more fascinating, and another reason to love it...and her.

    Track 5s have the most heartbreaking lyrics. This is a Taylor thing. I love that you’ve opened yourself up to her content. Yes she has pop hits and that’s what allows her to continue to make music. You have to deep dive albums to get the best songs

  • @meglea7065

    About her track numbers (and numbers in general for Taylor)-- its a part of her magic. Across her albums there will be thematic consistencies in where she places tracks on an album. Absolutely nothing is random, everything is meticulously deliberate. She curates an entire experience by carefully placing things just so. Like i said, its magic.

    Again I really enjoy your journey. Yes, her record label who sold her masters instead of selling them to her. She was his first and only signee, and at the end she made up 80% of his revenue. How do you burn that bridge, how do you ruin that?
    I think you’d like Evermore ft Bon Iver, Coney Island Ft the National, and check out Ivy and Tis the damn Season. Ask your wife if she likes evermore or folklore better. Folklore overall is the better album, but most people (most) like to listen to evermore more than folklore.

  • @coomacp9194
    @coomacp9194 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I really liked hearing her singing in her deeper register on this one - it sounds really good. 🤌its really heartbreaking what her old record company did and you can really feel her emotion in this performance. I also like that this one isn't as specific with the lyrics and more broad. It is nice that some of her lyrics are straightforward, but on the downside it can be harder to relate if they are so specific, which although not necessary to enjoy a song it's nice to do, or to interpret it to your own or a different situation. I like this one and the piano in this studio version is beautiful.

    IDK if others have mentioned it but Taylor's "track 5" has always been one of if not the most emotional ones. It has been that way since her debut by coincidence and when the fans started pointing it out after several albums, Taylor started making it a real thing in which she purposely arranges track 5 as the song most meaningful to her.

Fans and even non-fans who have known Taylor's work would agree that Taylor's best performances are the ones that consist of Taylor + 1 instrument, usually a guitar, sometimes a piano.

      But weren't they still together when this was written?

    I'm not a very big fan of Taylor but i'm enjoying your reaction nonetheless 😊 this song is my fav from her.
    PD: I think you'll love the album Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood, give it a listen if you can, please! 💜

    I personally think this is absolutely about Calvin, who openly burned her on social media whilst the world turned on her. He lashed out as they were recently broken up and she then released that she co-wrote his biggest hit with Rhianna (the stolen lullaby), because he said he’d never do a song with Taylor. I think they both lashed out in pain (did not go with grace). This was also when the snake thing happened from Kanye and Kim (why are you at the wake) - a reference to him jumping in during her public reputation ‘execution’.
    I also think the ‘I can go anywhere just not home’. He was her ‘home’ xx

    Your attention to the song writing is so refreshing. I also appreciate that you’re taking the time to open your mind to genres you typically don’t listen to. Two song suggestions: 1) Tin Man- Miranda Lambert. The live version from the 2017 ACM awards is remarkable. It is so simple yet completely heartbreaking. 2) Brandi Carlile music video for “The Joke”.
