Track fives for Taylor are always her most emotional and most personal songs. They’ll almost always hit you in the gut in the best way. When she performs this at the Eras Tour omg.
Hello. You’re absolutely right. For her, the song was about her former label owner, Scott Borschetta, who Swift considered something like a second father. - “You wear the same same jewels that I gave you as you bury me. - “You hear my stolen lullabies.” - “I can go anywhere I want, just not home.” To cite a few of the lyrics pointing to the masters situation. 😊 I think the beauty of it, though, is that it’s written in a way that other people can interpret the song in a way that relates to them- even if they don’t know what it was about for Swift. Of course that’s true for all good art. Enjoyed your reaction. 😊
thank you for the info. We don't know the full details, but we knew it had something to do with her catalog being sold. The stolen lullabies lyric really felt like a tell-tale for sure. Thank you for pointing all the others out too. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It’s even more than that: he essentially discovered her, and she (as a teenager) trusted him enough to be the first artist to sign to the new label he was creating. Then she was the most successful artist on that label, she made him rich, and made the label successful enough that he was able to ask a huge price for it when he was ready to sell it. They had always had an overall positive relationship across six albums, but when she was signing with a new label and his was for sale, she asked for the option to purchase her masters back and he said only if she re-signed to make six more albums, and with each new one she could earn an old one. That felt like a huge betrayal to her. Then, knowing that she wanted access to those masters and intended to negotiate for them, he sold them to Scooter Braun, with whom he knew she had a negative relationship (because of Braun’s professional relationships with friends and acquaintances. She didn’t like how he treated his clients). That’s why she’s using death and a funeral as a metaphor in this song…it felt like the death of a close, critical, familial relationship to her.
She signed with this guy when she was 16. He was just starting a record label. She and her mother went from radio station to radio station to promote her music. She writes her songs, then promoted it She made Scott millions and he sold her music for $300 million behind her back. Now she’s re-recording own her music again.
So my theory, that has not been confirmed, is that “My Tears Ricochet” is about her stolen lullabies and each line of the first chorus was taken from a song from each stolen album!! “i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace) “you’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman) “and if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead) “cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You) “wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay) “look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)
SO this song is about Scott Borchetta, the owner of the label she was on until 2018. Scott Borchetta signed her as his first artists on his label BMR in 2005 after seeing her perform at the bluebird cafe and she made that label a huge success and he became like a father figure to her. Taylor wanted to own the masters to her work ( because she wrote all of the songs) and for 15 years she begged him to let her own her work. In 2019 she left the label to go sign a contract with republic/UMG because they would let her own her future masters. Scott then instead of letting her buy them, sold her masters to a man who has been bullying Taylor since she was a teenager because she refused to work with Scooter and he really wanted her on his roster. Scooter bought them because he thought that would force her to be under his control, but Taylor instead decided to re-record her first 6 albums to regain her masters. Scott had been around for all the horrendous bullying Taylor had recieved from Scooter through the years and he knew selling them to him would be the worst betrayal, because he used to hate him too, but did it anyway because he was angry and wanted to hurt her. Scott also spent so much time gaslighing her in the press Hence the "If I am dead to you why are you at the wake?" line. He used to tell her that he was never going to be a person who valued money before music and that right should always win, hence the "You turned into your worst fears" line. Scooter has never worked with Taylor.
Thanks for explaining this in greater detail. Didnt Scooter Braun represent Kanye West, who treated Taylor worse than anyone else? So pleased to hear that after the release of the first 4 of 6 of the Taylor's Version Album, that allowed Taylor to reclaim her work, Scooter is no longer in the Music Industry, and Scott Borchetta then sold Big Machine. Of the three, Taylor is the only one left standing, in all her righteous glory! ❤ It would be w onderful if the company owned by Disney, who bought the rights to Taylor's original 6 albums, offered to sell Taylor her work. They must know Taylor will not work with them, as Scooter Braun would benefit monetarily.
" You wear the same jewels that I gave you as you bury me" and " when you can't sleep at night, you'll hear my stolen lullabies" are very much the telltale lines.
"I didn't have it in myself to go with grace" is one of my absolute favourite lyrics!!! It makes me think of how many times, as women, especially, we are expected to just accept things with good grace and a smile on our face. If we get angry or respond negatively, we're seen as problematic or irrational. People just expected her to be 'ok' with what happened because that's 'just the way it is' in the music industry, and she was like, no, I don't accept this, this is not ok. I don't have it within myself to just let this go, I have to speak out.
Her fans noticed that Taylor’s track 5 songs are always the most deeply revealing. Taylor realized they were right and started doing it on purpose several years ago. According to one of Taylor’s interviews
No, Scott Borchetta signed Taylor at 14. He was like a second father to her. HE'S the one who sold all of her music to Scooter Braun, who had been abusive towards Taylor over the years. This performance never loses its power for me. Her hurt, her anger... all of it is so palpable. She conveys emotions lyrically, visually, physically... she's amazing, and peerless, in my mind.
As someone who doesn't speak to her parents anymore through no fault of her own, this song is like she went into my brain and made a song out it. I cry every time I hear this song.
My husband believes she’s a savant and doesn’t have a bad song, so he’s currently going through each album with the sole purpose of finding a bad song, I told him it isn’t gonna happen. There will be songs you like less than others but there is truly no bad song.
@@HPReact only found one so far, “Jump then Fall” he liked the lyrics but not the production I guess. And he likes one that I don’t care as much for “Stay Stay Stay”
Its the sigh at the end the the song that speaks volumes. I feel lucky because I requested this. Thanks fellas. Always enjoyable to watch you and listen to your thoughts. 😊
I agree with everything Jack her producer said during the interview. It’s one of her best written songs and rather than descriptive of actual facts, it’s more metaphorical except maybe for the line “you used to tell I was brave” which also cuts deep because it shows how it was almost a father daughter relationship.
track 5 is significant for Taylor specifically, she subconsciously always puts very vulnerable tracks as tracks 5 (for example All Too Well, Cold As You, Dear John) and fans noticed that, pointed it out and so now she does it consciously ans we know that we have to always emotionally prepare for a track 5
Hard for me to narrow down to even a top 25 lol. Her music just speaks to me on so many levels. This is definitely a favorite. Another favorite from the Folklore Long Pond Studio Sessions is a duet: Exile. Possibly one of THE greatest breakup songs written and performed imo. Takes my breath away every time I hear it. Some folks get annoyed by some of her more upbeat pop songs like Shake it Off or ME! but not me haha. The music videos for those are great. The Man is fun one also. I’m just in awe of her many talents.
She calls her songs “her babies” because she’s written all of them from her personal experiences, making the “my stolen lullabies” verse so powerful. Scooter Braun sold them to Scott Borchetta. It has to be mentioned that he was an influential person who helped Kanye and Kim to torture Taylor, going on stage and causing the scene at her first VMA’s at 17 years old, Kim/Kanye and the internet of trolls called her a snake about the infamous phone call that Kanye and Kim edited to make it sound like Taylor gave her approval to be called a B (female dog), and when Taylor said she didn’t, no one believed her because of the highly edited phone call that Kim released. Later on, maybe a year, the entire call was released and it showed that Taylor was telling the truth. It really hurt Taylor because she prides herself on being a “good girl”. She says so in the Miss Americana documentary. After the phone call scandal, her pain and depression caused her to disappear for a year. No one saw her. No one heard from her. While she was gone (that’s what she thought people wanted), she worked on herself. Music is therapy for her. Taylor came back stronger and better than ever with “Reputation”. You will be able to see a completely new version of Taylor’s writing and confidence in Reputation. It’s remarkable how she continues to reinvent herself and make such personal records that resonate with most of her fans. WE believed her, but Kim and Kanye even went on TV shows to make her look worse on purpose. She used to look up to Kanye. Now she says “I don’t like you” flat out in Look What You Made Me Do. There’s so much in that one song. Geez. She got all of the dirt out on everybody that backstabbed her. It’s a work of art. There are “what you missed” TH-cam videos on that one song because there’s just no way one “non-obsessed Swiftie” person could catch everything. LOL. Great job, guys!! I enjoy your reactions. You aren’t afraid of letting the song take you where it’s meant to go. Her lyricism is so poetic and powerful that she can touch a wide range of people. ❤
There's so many greats in her catalogue. Exile Champagne Problems Your losing me All the girls you loved before False God Lover Cardigan Betty and August a trilogy She has some awesome live performances for Blank Space I knew you were trouble where she totally rocks and Dear John followed by would've should've could've shows how she has matured And her videos Anti Hero Delicate I bet you think about Me, Lover are so fun Safe and sound is beautiful as well as long live Political-Need to Calm Down Want sultry try live Vigilante Shit or I did something bad Love how you both actually listen and process the lyrics providing a genuine reaction Cant wait to see more
She may write songs based on her own life, but she wants listeners to relate to it in their own way. So she very rarely lets people know what the song is about, or confirms theories. But she doesn't go out of her way to hide it either. Some of her songs may have a touch of real life drama in them, but are largely filled in with bits that aren't directly connected. Just good for the song.
The thing that infuriates me the most about the Scott Borchetta situation is that when Taylor begged to buy her masters, her former label, who she had left at this time, tried to trap her in a continued relationship by telling her that if she came back to them she had the opportunity to "earn" back her masters one album at a time. So for each new album she released, she'd earn back one of her "stolen lullabies." It's so manipulative and gross how they act like they are doing her this huge favor, when they were just trapping her in a situation that would never end.
Yup, stolen lullabies represents her catalog was sold, and Scott borchetta ( Taylor's ex manager who first signed her at the age of 15) sold it to scooter braun for R300 million
Hi you guys! ❤ This sing was my intro to Taylor. I fell in love with this whole "Studio Sessions" as first exposure. Now I love her so so much and I'm really enjoying your reaction! Thanks to your requests people!
The album version is amazing too. The production really swells then drops along with your emotions. It is really worth the listen. The Long Pond Studio Sessions are basically a stripped back production of an already stripped back album. But the instrumentals on the album are really not to be missed they are so beautiful and really add to the overall feeling the songs.
I’ve really loved your Taylor reactions, they all feel so wholesome and real. I would love to hear more of your backrounds in the indrustry! I would also love to see your reactions to more folklore/evermore album songs because those are my favourite work from her from a songwriting perspective!
Great producers' comment on track order. I remember for an album release, Taylor Swift asked her fans to listen to it in track order. This was well into in the individual song digital download era, so it seemed really old school, and she seems to like some traditions, including releasing her albums on vinyl.
Sometimes the old ways allow you to include the audience. Thanks why so many, if not all, albums are meant to be played in the correct sequence. Thank you so much for your comments!
It was her previous owner of the recording company. Please do yourselves and us a favor and also react to her Eras tour of her singing this song! It means so much more once you learn the backstory and it’s so much more powerful done live !
You are correct, she wrote this song to Scott borchetta when he sold her music catalog to scooter Braun, a man Scott knew had ill will toward Taylor and knew he would restrict Taylor’s use of her own music. And in fact is the reason she wasn’t allowed to use her own music in the documentary Miss Americana. Her stolen lullaby’s are those songs. The jewels she gave him are her songs. She always referred to her songs as jewels and her albums as her children.
Please check out any of her performances at the Grammy Museum, she speaks a little before the songs there too. Or maybe Cornelia Street Live in Paris Have you seen Dear John ? The whole album 1989 is a fun experience.
Thank you for cleaning up for us.😉 Yep this is to and about Scott Borchetta and the sale of his record co Big Machine to Scooter Braun that included the masters of her first six albums behind her back. Stay safe❤
Also when she left BMR they tried to lure her back by saying she could “earn” 1 album back at a time for every new album she released. Scott Borchetta tried to pretend like she refused his offer to buy her masters back when that was the offer. Like how messed up is that. He is so money hungry.
All her songs are top 10's but this is one of my favorites. You should either, do all Track 5's, or start from the very beginning. Out of the woods Video is great but all her videos are great. Taylor is top tier.
There are no “bad” songs. There are just come that are not nearly as good as others. But just about every black sheep song has groups of swifties that willl say it’s their favorite.
Hello, Just started watching and I am soooo excited for future reactions!!!! I’ve been a Taylor fan since I was younger… seen her live 4 times and she continues to Amaze me! She continues to grow musically, lyrically, and just everything… breaking record and record… there is nothing this woman can’t do. Recommendations: For videos: -I bet you think about me - Anti-Hero Lyrics: -Champagne Problems -tolerate it -Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve - Mr Perfectly Fine (not emotional a little more on just a good bop song) Live performance -tolerate it (Eras Tour) -They say I did something bad (reputation) - Vigilante Shit (Eras Tour)
No clinkers. Even songs I didn’t like years ago have found their way into my playlists. I am not as big of a fan of her country music but that’s because I’m just not into that kind of song, not because her songs aren’t as good. Also, I’m 50, I started listening to Taylor swift passively through my daughter, it wasn’t until Taylor had matured that her songs began speaking to me. Once Taylor really dove head first I to poetry is when her music started to clutch my soul. I’d say the album lover and beyond are when I became a Taylor swift fan independent of my kids. I would wager money that the album she is dropping on May 19 will be my all time favorite. Its song list and album word-art are dripping in literary devices from the romantic era of poetry. Which is a sort of milestone for her, as she’s writes about in the song the lake’s, that she name drops Wordsworth. I’m having fun drawing lines of conjecture between the album’s songs and word-art to references in Lyrical Ballads by Wordsworth and Coleridge. The poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and her song The Albatross, for example. I can’t wait to hear these songs! 🤩
Scott Borchetta was her manager. He “discovered” her. Really, he had no other artists and had just been canned from another big label. He wanted to start his own label. Taylor (and her parents) helped him do that. She was his first artist, I think. Definitely his most notable artist. He helped launch her career. She and Scooter, famously, DID NOT get along (he’s a bully), prior to the sale of her entire discography. When it all happened, She had only an inkling that something big was about to happen. It was time for her to “re-up” her contract. Scott B. and her “team” were trying to pull one over on her. She asked if she could buy all her masters directly from Scott. He said, if you re-sign with us we will let you buy back one album at a time… all you have to do is put out new music. For every new album you put out, one of your previous masters will belong to you. Meanwhile, Scooter (the buyer of her old label) had been spending his money, collecting “pop-stars” (Ariana, Bieber, Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly…). He wanted to own Taylor and her masters, so he could control her career. She’s too smart. She said, “nope.” And she left. Because she wrote all her own lyrics, the music legally belonged to her. Hence, the re-recording of her first six albums. Taylor’s Versions. Fans stopped streaming her music, so he wouldn’t make money. Personally, I got a boombox for X-Mas that year & started only listening to her music on CD. 😂 Then, she made a deal with iHeart Radio, where they would only play the official Taylor’s Version of all her old music. That was amazing! It really is sad. He did her so dirty. She looked up to him and trusted him for so long. They made each other successful! Then, he sold her out. 😵 She has said, he had 300,000,000 reasons why he did it. Ouch! Tears Ricochet, indeed. It amazes me how she can take strife and turn it into something beautiful! It must have been so painful. She used it as fuel. She really is a Phoenix ✨🧚♀️✨
Her songs that are my least favorite are usually the radio singles. I never cared for Bad Blood. For the rest of her catalogue, there are songs that I thought I didn't like, but it was only because I hadn't related to them yet. I can go from not liking a song to suddenly having that song describe everything I'm going through and helping me process those emotions.
Since I became a Swiftie last October, I have listened to four albums (each 1-2 month, to REALLY get to know them). And so far I have only removed one song from the playlist because it was kind of flat or boring. (But I won't tell you which 😜) So if you want to find a bad TS song, good luck! 😂❤️
I've seen the comments talking about Scott and Scooter but there's also speculation in the "swiftie" community that Karlie Kloss, who was her best friend aided Scooter in buying her work. She hung out with him multiple times, would've know Taylor was looking to buy her work, discussing and negotiating her contract and looking at other labels. Kinda clues me in too with the comment she makes about best friends know how to hurt you/they're your worst whiny bc they once were your closest friend.
so a little more info on the masters situation - Taylor did try to buy them back, but scott put in the conditions that she would get back one album for every new album she puts out, binding her to him for longer. she signed with another label and he sold her masters to the guy she hated (scooter). Also, i love the 'oh geez' when she said its one of her saddest songs lmao I think its one of her best written songs, and yes she has bad songs lol (not objectively bad, but like meh) Also, you guys are doing great!!!!
Hey wow, thank you, that means a lot to us! Thanks for clarifying the history. "Choose your friends and associates wisely." I know because there were people who torpedoed our musical endeavors. They didn't feel they were getting to control things, no team-players. Thanks S&S
@@HPReactThe song that should truly come with a warning is "Ronan" which is based on the true story of a little boy who died of cancer and is from his mom's perspective. it's devastating.
Love your journey! You should check out Taylor Swift - Cornelia Street (Live from City of Lover Paris). Considered by many of us to be one of her best performances to date!
Scott Borchetta is who this song is about. He was the person who first signed her to a label at age 16. He was like a father to her and she gave him years of success and money. He then sold her masters out from under her and is the reason she is having to rewrite all of the albums again as “Taylor’s version”. Her tears have become his tears now because he traded everything she had given and done for him for her “stolen lullabies”. This is one of most powerful and painful moments in her entire music and personal life. You can see the pain on her face and hear it in her voice, this wound was cut deep. 💔😔
Of course you will hear the background about Taylor and her masters but this song also brilliantly describes a messy divorce. It’s so painful. I have a playlist of about 20 favorite Taylor songs that gets edited as she releases new music. But even as a major Swiftie I have a very long list of songs I think are terrible. I don’t think an artist can create so prolifically at such a high standard and not have some big misses.
Great insight! As a composer myself, I know what that's like. I think every artist strives to do great work every time out, but creativity can be fleeting. Thank you so much! S&S
This was the song that made me aware of the fact what an outstanding songwriter she actually is. Please do "Ronan" the lyric video, to get those hankies in use. LOL
Hello! Love your videos! Thanks for reacting to her work. ❤ Well, if you want to know about not so great songs from Taylor, I might suggest one that is controversial in the fandom: ME!. Half of the fandom hates it and the other half thinks it's only "okay" compared to Taylor's standard of work. Like, we know she can do better. Another one that some fans don't like is: Stay Stay Stay, it's a happy cute song, some people think it sounds childish. I personally like Stay Stay Stay, but I do agree that it's a bit too bubbly and repetitive.
I think my comment got deleted. 🤥 Anyway, you guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels. You have interesting commentary and you appreciate Taylor for the artist she is. We love that. There's no way I could ever choose my top ten Taylor songs -- it's a steady rotation that depends on my mood. I wouldn't say they're "clinkers", but any song that's played to death on the radio is usually a no for me.
Thank you so very much for the compliment and staying with us. We take music seriously. I don't know how we never actually listened to any of her music, until we stumbled into TS. Stay tuned for more! Best S&S
@@HPReact You guys are the best. One of the things you're "doing right" is engaging with your commenters! We appreciate that too. If you ever want access to some harder to find material let me know.
I’m a Swifty and my clinker is Speak Now. Possibly my favorite album is Speak Now, but that song makes me cringe. It’s well done and I get why the album was named Speak Now. Just one of my least favorites from her discography… if you’re looking for a single that’s less liked.
“Does she have any bad songs?” you ask. My personal answer it “no” (I’m excluding her Christmas album from this conversation because…well…just because.) But some of her songs do have swiftie-haters. I don’t hate these songs, but I do rank two of them near the bottom. Here they are: Taylor Swift - ME! (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco) ft. Brendon Urie th-cam.com/video/FuXNumBwDOM/w-d-xo.html Taylor Swift - Superman (Taylor’s Version) (Lyric Video) th-cam.com/video/Fn0er7H1Dm0/w-d-xo.html Taylor Swift - It’s Nice To Have A Friend (Official Audio) th-cam.com/video/eaP1VswBF28/w-d-xo.html (I personally love this song, but a lot of swifties groan about it.)
@@HPReact It depends on how you look at it. I like these songs but, if I was forced to rank them, then two of them would be in the bottom 20% of the TSwift discography. Also, a lot of people super-duper hate Shake It Off. I personally like it, but some people hate it with a passion - probably because it got so over-played that people just can't stand to hear it anymore. I don't hear radio much and I never over-played it, so that problem never happened for me. Anyway, if your are looking for an example of a "bad TSwift song" you now have some candidates to consider. But checking these out in a reaction video might be a treacherous path. Swifties tend to be passionate about their TSwift rankings.😉
@@gaylenwoof we agree. Songs are art and art appeals to different people in different ways. It was more of a curiosity question since we have yet to hear a bad song from her.
I’m not as much a fan of some of her earliest popular songs, tho I do concede they sound much better with her adult voice. (I’ll be crucified for this, but I could never get into Love Story.) And just a note re the Long Pond sessions - they’re all very paired back versions of the album songs, so My Tears Ricochet from folklore sounds different than this. (And personally, I like the album version more - I like the anger that comes through. This lullaby, she’s just more weighed down and sad, and while I get that, there’s a power in the anger that comes through on the line “when I’m screaming at the sky” that is missing for me here.)
Many artists mature as their careers go along. If I'm not mistaken, Scott is looking into doing the album version. So stay tuned, please. Thank you for commenting! S&S
@@HPReact I’d actually argue that it’s pretty rare to see an artist mature like Taylor has. I think we might have a small glut of it right now because there were a LOT of talented teen bands 15 years ago (thanks Simon Cowell!), so we have all the One Direction boys plus some of the Disney kids, like Miley Cyrus (who has also had her craft mature beautifully, if you wanna branch out). But think of all the pressure for JLo, Madonna, etc, to sound the same? Even James Hetfield of Metallica had to explain why his voice suddenly sounded just a LITTLE different on records (way back in the late 90s), because he had to learn to sing properly or else he’d destroy his throat. I think that for some reason, there’s only a small group of entertainers who are allowed to grow up and grow into their voices and craft. Hell, even Beyoncé has faced pushback for it!
Originally, the lyrics were a bit of a head-scratcher 🤔 for me trying to imagine a fitting scenario. What gives "My Tears Ricochet" so much more impact is knowing the backstory that several other comments detailed. I would add that the "jewels" 💎 are a metaphor for her masters 📀 -- last year her store merch included a jeweled (not real jewels) bracelet having each jewel's color corresponding to each of her albums. And I'd add that the "I didn't have it in myself to go with grace" is about her decision to go public when trying to buy her masters in a clean deal -- a deal he would make with anyone else -- not the deal that he insisted upon from her that included 1 new album for each old master (so 6 new albums!). Several times in the interview segment Taylor Swift said "it's a song about...", but if she said "it's a song about Scott Borschetta" -- this would have really helped me! 😂 The backstory makes the lyrics' metaphors fit together perfectly. Taylor Swift was born to be a songwriter, singer, and performer.
Is there a bad TSwift song? Well, it depends on who you ask haha. Most fans would say her worst song is "Me!" because it's kind of childish, but other love it. Regardless, it got really famous. I personally use to hate "look what you made me do" and now I LOVE it haha.
Oh yes, there are definitely clinkers. 😊 I’m SURE there are people who will disagree, but songs like ME!! and I Forgot That You Existed and Bad Blood are, at the very least, not among her finest work in many peoples’ opinions. 😊 BTW- I think you’re doing a lot of things right. You listen to the songs all the way through without pausing every five seconds (hard to get the feel of a song when you do that). You’re attentive and thoughtful. It also seems like you’re sincere. Although, I can understand why you might be reluctant to say if you don’t care for something, or even part of it. There are definitely rabid fans out there who don’t want to hear anything aside from everything about Swift being sheer perfection. 😉 Rest assured, though, there are a lot of us out here who watch these types of videos because we really are interested in hearing other people’s opinions. Please try to ignore those who “bully” you about how to respond to or interpret a song. Another facet of Swift can be seen in the Grammy Museum performance of Wildest Dreams. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Taylor has set an impossible bar. Her bad songs are still so well put together. Their are very few artists I can put any album in their catalog on and listen from start to finish no skips. Taylor is one
We appreciate you 🙏🏻🙏🏻. Thank you for the kind words. We’re obviously only 5 songs in to her huge library so I’m sure we’ll have differing opinions on future songs. So far Sam and I have been in the same page which is pretty rare. I guess that says a lot about Taylor’s ability to write good songs.
This song is primarily about the betrayal of her music lable and producer, Scooter Braun. It does encompass other similar events in everyone’s life. It is not my fav but it is one of her more important statements about the trauma of betrayal and how karma”my tears ricochet” always repays the abuser. Love your TS comments. Just have some fun w the video “ The MAN” it goes after the misogyny she has faced in her career. It’s another touchstone for her fans.
Scott Broschetta was her label owner (not producer) with whom she signed as a teenager for 6 albums. He knew how much damage Scooter Braun did to Taylor (they never worked together but he was kind of the insigator behind her cancellation in 2016), yet Scott sold her catalouge to Scooter.
This is not about Scooter Braun, it´s about Scott Borchetta. Scooter has never worked with Taylor, he has just spent years bullying her for not wanting to work with him. Scott borchetta signed Taylor in 2005 and was his first artist on his label and he was like a father figure to her. Scott then sold her masters to her 6 first albums to Scooter when Taylor wanted to leave the label.
A song that isn’t “up there” with the rest would be a parody track called Thug Story ft. T Pain. It’s meant to be funny and is a young Taylor, having fun, before all the drama happened in her life. She was still the girl living her dream. th-cam.com/video/ZUKdhXL3NCw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=m_4GW6Od3TjSxQ6j
This is not related to Taylor (although I love these reactions), but I would like to recommend a very different artist. His name is Ren Gill (goes by Ren) and he is absolutely phenomenal. He provides a perspective that I've never seen in the music industry, and that connects with people in varying walks of life. I recommend him to just about every reaction channel I come across because I believe his music and his story deserve to be heard by anyone willing to listen. Most people discover him through his song "Hi Ren" which is definitely the best introduction to him, but to fully understand the depth of his talent you need to dive head first into the rabbit hole. The following are songs that I believe capture who he is and his talent the best: "The Tale of Jenny and Screech" "Chalk Outlines" "For Joe" "How to be me" "Sick Boi" "Murderer" "Seven Sins" "Dumb King Come (King Dotta Diss)" "Money Game (1,2, and 3)" and his most recent releases "Fred again Mashup" "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle Retake". Also some of the cover songs from his busking sessions with his band The Big Push: "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip hop" "Englishman in New York" "Bongo Bong". Sorry about the novel, I am just very passionate about Ren, and I think you guys would enjoy his art. He is an independent artist so he is not nearly as popular as he deserves to be, but he embraces the reaction community, and he is slowing amassing a sizable audience. I hope you will give him a chance, you won't regret it!
The jewels she gave Scott Borchetta were the albums that went gold, platinum, and diamond.
It's worth noting that all her Track 5's are the most personal. All Too Well is also a Track 5.
Thank you for this. I had a feeling it was something she always did.
Yasss track 5 is very important to note……also tolerate it is a track 5❤
“The Archer” & “You’re On Your Own, Kid” are also track 5 songs. They are always her most personal songs.
Out of the Woods should've been the 1989's track 5
@@julia2802 I was thinking clean tho
Track fives for Taylor are always her most emotional and most personal songs. They’ll almost always hit you in the gut in the best way. When she performs this at the Eras Tour omg.
We've noticed the importance of track 5. Thank you for your support! :)
Hello.
You’re absolutely right. For her, the song was about her former label owner, Scott Borschetta, who Swift considered something like a second father.
- “You wear the same same jewels that I gave you as you bury me.
- “You hear my stolen lullabies.”
- “I can go anywhere I want, just not home.”
To cite a few of the lyrics pointing to the masters situation. 😊
I think the beauty of it, though, is that it’s written in a way that other people can interpret the song in a way that relates to them- even if they don’t know what it was about for Swift.
@@HPReact yes and he sold her masters to Scooter Braun, someone who she doesn't have a good relationship with.
@@Carrie1869doesn't have a good relationship with is an understatement... She despises him.
@@wildly_heather and they had so much Dialoges about him. They both actually hated him.
She signed with this guy when she was 16. He was just starting a record label. She and her mother went from radio station to radio station to promote her music. She writes her songs, then promoted it She made Scott millions and he sold her music for $300 million behind her back. Now she’s re-recording own her music again.
So happy she's able to re-record all of her songs. What a bad situation.
So my theory, that has not been confirmed, is that “My Tears Ricochet” is about her stolen lullabies and each line of the first chorus was taken from a song from each stolen album!!
“i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace)
“you’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman)
“and if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead)
“cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You)
“wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay)
“look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was just gonna say this. Her mind ❤🤯❤
I wanted to like your comment, but it's at lucky 13! I agree with you!
Ohmigah! 🤯 Totally. Never thought of that. Genius.
Came here to say this too. I don’t think it needs confirming really, the extremely specific symbolism validates it I reckon
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Enjoying your reactions...Taylor & Bon Iver "Exile" from The Long Pond sessions will knock your socks off...hope you get to it soon!
Agree!!!
It is one of my favourite lines too. For exactly those reasons.
Her fans noticed that Taylor’s track 5 songs are always the most deeply revealing. Taylor realized they were right and started doing it on purpose several years ago. According to one of Taylor’s interviews
I would say most Swifties have a completely different Top 10. No one has the same top ten because one is always attached to ones that moved them.
Her pain is palpable, her voice is beautiful, her words are haunting. Ty for this reaction❤
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
No, Scott Borchetta signed Taylor at 14. He was like a second father to her. HE'S the one who sold all of her music to Scooter Braun, who had been abusive towards Taylor over the years. This performance never loses its power for me. Her hurt, her anger... all of it is so palpable. She conveys emotions lyrically, visually, physically... she's amazing, and peerless, in my mind.
We're really feeling that she opens her heart for just about every song. That's very brave! S&S
As someone who doesn't speak to her parents anymore through no fault of her own, this song is like she went into my brain and made a song out it. I cry every time I hear this song.
🤗
Oh boy, me too! I think about my dad. :(
So very sorry. Take care of you. ♥️
My husband believes she’s a savant and doesn’t have a bad song, so he’s currently going through each album with the sole purpose of finding a bad song, I told him it isn’t gonna happen. There will be songs you like less than others but there is truly no bad song.
Please let us know what happens! S&S 🙏🏼
@@HPReact only found one so far, “Jump then Fall” he liked the lyrics but not the production I guess. And he likes one that I don’t care as much for “Stay Stay Stay”
I do think she is a savant!
This bridge is on the Eras tour and its literally the climax of the tour. Powerful and chilling ❤
Its the sigh at the end the the song that speaks volumes. I feel lucky because I requested this. Thanks fellas. Always enjoyable to watch you and listen to your thoughts. 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
I agree with everything Jack her producer said during the interview. It’s one of her best written songs and rather than descriptive of actual facts, it’s more metaphorical except maybe for the line “you used to tell I was brave” which also cuts deep because it shows how it was almost a father daughter relationship.
The fury in her eyes is real
track 5 is significant for Taylor specifically, she subconsciously always puts very vulnerable tracks as tracks 5 (for example All Too Well, Cold As You, Dear John) and fans noticed that, pointed it out and so now she does it consciously ans we know that we have to always emotionally prepare for a track 5
Good point. We get it, and looking forward to continuing down the TS rabbit hole. Excited! S&S
It does seem impossible to rank songs from her since they’re so different.
After the phone call scandal, her pain and depression
caused her to disappear for a year.

Excellent reaction. Thanks guys❤
Yup, stolen lullabies represents her catalog was sold, and Scott borchetta ( Taylor's ex manager who first signed her at the age of 15) sold it to scooter braun for R300 million
Exile and Cornelia Street live from Paris are a must
Hi you guys! ❤ This sing was my intro to Taylor. I fell in love with this whole "Studio Sessions" as first exposure. Now I love her so so much and I'm really enjoying your reaction! Thanks to your requests people!
We love the intimate setting for this song version. Gives it an even more personal touch to it. Really good song.
Same for me, this was the song that pulled me in.
Watching this live at the eras tour was such an amazing experience. One of her best songs
I'm so glad you also watched her conversation with Jack before the song. Can't wait until you do Exile with Bon Iver. Thanks for this reaction!!
Thank YOU - the fans - for recommending 🙏🏻
Hope you guys can watch the eras tour performance of this sometime. It's beautiful! Love your reactions!
Definitely will. Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’ve really loved your Taylor reactions, they all feel so wholesome and real. I would love to hear more of your backrounds in the indrustry! I would also love to see your reactions to more folklore/evermore album songs because those are my favourite work from her from a songwriting perspective!
All the songs from the Long Pond Sessions are excellent... exile in particular
This was my FAVORITE performance at the Eras Tour. It’s very powerful on stage.
This song is so beautiful.
It was her previous owner of the recording company. Please do yourselves and us a favor and also react to her Eras tour of her singing this song! It means so much more once you learn the backstory and it’s so much more powerful done live !
I’d love to see y’all cover exile
Feel like that one will come more sooner than later 👍🏻
My favorite track from Folklore ♥️
You are correct, she wrote this song to Scott borchetta when he sold her music catalog to scooter Braun, a man Scott knew had ill will toward Taylor and knew he would restrict Taylor’s use of her own music. And in fact is the reason she wasn’t allowed to use her own music in the documentary Miss Americana.
Her stolen lullaby’s are those songs.
The jewels she gave him are her songs. She always referred to her songs as jewels and her albums as her children.
In the long pond studio sessions she's not being interviewed by anyone, She's having conversations with Her producers Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner.
👍🏻
If you want to see the rock site of Taylor, do "Never ever getting back together" from the 1989 World Tour. The girl can rock too. 🤯

Thank you for cleaning up for us.😉 Yep this is to and about Scott Borchetta and the sale of his record co Big Machine to Scooter Braun that included the masters of her first six albums behind her back. Stay safe❤
Haha. Thank you. And thank you for the info. Always appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Also when she left BMR they tried to lure her back by saying she could “earn” 1 album back at a time for every new album she released. Scott Borchetta tried to pretend like she refused his offer to buy her masters back when that was the offer. Like how messed up is that. He is so money hungry.
Yes, we read that. Insane crooks!
It was Scott Borchetta that sold her catalog... and the person he sold it to was Scooter Braun. So she was singing to Scott Borchetta in this song.
My Tears Ricochet is in my top 3. This song makes me cry every time. It’s so good.
All her songs are top 10's but this is one of my favorites. You should either, do all Track 5's, or start from the very beginning. Out of the woods Video is great but all her videos are great. Taylor is top tier.

Thank you, I’ll add it to the very long list! We’re swamped!
Just found your channel. Really enjoying it. Thank you
Love the watching you!
She always comes with the punch in the punch line though, stolen lullabies
Thank you for commenting and hopefully following us. Keep in touch, won't you? Your nutty friend, Sam
This is in my top 5
Her songs that are my least favorite are usually the radio singles. I never cared for Bad Blood.
For the rest of her catalogue, there are songs that I thought I didn't like, but it was only because I hadn't related to them yet. I can go from not liking a song to suddenly having that song describe everything I'm going through and helping me process those emotions.
We can totally relate
Since I became a Swiftie last October, I have listened to four albums (each 1-2 month, to REALLY get to know them). And so far I have only removed one song from the playlist because it was kind of flat or boring. (But I won't tell you which 😜) So if you want to find a bad TS song, good luck! 😂❤️
Welcome to the rabbit hole.
@@Violet316 Oh, I am in as deep, as you can get... 😉😅
We’re still skeptical a bad song exists from her. 🤔
@@HPReact I doubt it. 😅
This short video sums up Taylor’s thoughts:

so a little more info on the masters situation - Taylor did try to buy them back, but scott put in the conditions that she would get back one album for every new album she puts out, binding her to him for longer. she signed with another label and he sold her masters to the guy she hated (scooter).
Also, i love the 'oh geez' when she said its one of her saddest songs lmao
I think its one of her best written songs, and yes she has bad songs lol (not objectively bad, but like meh)

@@HPReactThe song that should truly come with a warning is "Ronan" which is based on the true story of a little boy who died of cancer and is from his mom's perspective. it's devastating.

@@HPReact Ah, thanks, I will check it out. 👍
LOL
Oh no save that one for last I can’t bear it 😢😢😢
Just as a warning- Ronan is a true story about a child who dies of cancer (Swift wrote it for a cancer benefit).

Oh, thank you so much for your insights. We are amazed at how accepting Swifties are welcoming and very helpful!
So many people really dislike her song Me! It is not one of my favorites, but I think the music video is fun and that it is a catchy song!
@@IvyCowboy Oh we'll need all the help we can get :)
I’m a Swifty and my clinker is Speak Now. Possibly my favorite album is Speak Now, but that song makes me cringe. It’s well done and I get why the album was named Speak Now. Just one of my least favorites from her discography… if you’re looking for a single that’s less liked.
Ooo, thank you for that! We really appreciate every comment and guidance!
Btw, Scooter paid over 300 million dollars.
WOW, thanks for the info! S&S
“Does she have any bad songs?” you ask. My personal answer it “no” (I’m excluding her Christmas album from this conversation because…well…just because.) But some of her songs do have swiftie-haters. I don’t hate these songs, but I do rank two of them near the bottom.
Here they are:
Taylor Swift - ME! (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco) ft. Brendon Urie

Taylor Swift - Superman (Taylor’s Version) (Lyric Video)

Taylor Swift - It’s Nice To Have A Friend (Official Audio)
th-cam.com/video/eaP1VswBF28/w-d-xo.html
(I personally love this song, but a lot of swifties groan about it.)
So they DO exist? 🥹

Great insight, thank you for the info!
Oh, nice! Thanks for clarifying the song. We are humbled by all the Swifties chiming in with much-needed guidance and info! S&S
I wish ya'll would do Exile with Bon Iver studio long pond.
I’m SURE there are people who will disagree, but songs like ME!! and I Forgot That You Existed and Bad Blood are, at the very least, not among her finest work in many peoples’ opinions. 😊
BTW- I think you’re doing a lot of things right.
Those people who don't like Me! And bad blood are just wrong 😂
Taylor has set an impossible bar. Her bad songs are still so well put together. Their are very few artists I can put any album in their catalog on and listen from start to finish no skips. Taylor is one
@@wildly_heatherMe is my least favorite, but I actually like I Forgot That You Existed.
We had a feeling. 👍
Scott then sold her masters to her 6 first albums to Scooter when Taylor wanted to leave the label.
scott brochetta
A song that isn’t “up there” with the rest would be a parody track called Thug Story ft. T Pain. It’s meant to be funny and is a young Taylor, having fun, before all the drama happened in her life. She was still the girl living her dream.

Wow, we’re intrigued. We will definitely research him. Thank you so much for putting us onto him! 💛💙💛
