3:45 thanks so much for that tip, you had given it before and I recently ran my ads to The War On Drugs fans and it WORKS especially if the band is quite a niche. Thanks.
@@inharmonyofficial depends on how niche it is perhaps...you're right many smaller bands are not available to pick yet. Aren't there bigger artists who sound like your niche band?
1. SUBMIT VIA SPOTIFY FOR ARTISTS BEFORE YOUR RELEASE. (Try to upload 3 weeks in advance. You will need give niche info & description) 2. Social media advertising - do it the right way by taking the time to choose the right targeting & don’t just use the cover artwork. Visually pleasing! (Videos get higher engagement.) 3. Have THE RIGHT release strategy! Release singles! Do step 1&2.
Carrying on with monthly releases this year - next week I'm dropping a music video on Thursday evening and the song hits platforms at midnight! I recommend this strategy 👊
phenomenal video as per usual :) yeah, doing the "for fans of ____" is really underrated, it works great. For example, if you have Distrokid and haven't uploaded a song yet to any streaming platforms (me), if you have a presave hyperfollow going on (automatic with Distrokid), you'll literally be able to see the people that presaved your song and their emails and their favorite artists. this is really helpful because you literally have a list of the top artists for the people that presave your music. if you've done it correctly, you have already marketed your presave campaign towards fans of the similar genre for your upcoming single. Next thing you know, you have a list of the "fans of ____" and have a field day with that targeted advertising. Make sure you're reoptimizing your target audience too. hope this helps!!
Your advice is so helpful! I’ve been so overwhelmed with the business side of the industry, but you break it down so it is wayyyy easier to understand! I’m releasing a single on May 1st! Trying all the methods you’ve offered! Wish me luck!! 🖤😘
My first single was dead on arrival and it's sad because my producer said that it was his favorite project so far. Couldn't pitch it due to some account problems. My next single is pretty good as well. Got played in a twitch livestream and people really seemed to like it. Here's to hoping the spotify editors like it as well.
What people should be doing is creating a community arround your music. Make local playlists, example name it ''boston hip hop'', adding only rappers from boston. That way you'll be able to connect with fans in real life, create buzz where you live selling merchandise and connect with other musicians from your area and get that nice solid music local culture actually helping everyone.
I wished we'd spent a bit more time researching how to release our music. We spent 3 years writing and recording and album then released the whole thing through DistroKid in January. I honestly feel like we've wasted about 8 of the songs as only about 4-5 tracks get any listens. Society has changed and albums don't work (in the main), at least for emerging artists. We are frantically trying to write new material to release in a different way. We feel like we've paid a hefty price for our ignorance and, trust me, what Maddy says makes a lot of sense from what we've seen since releasing our material.
Thank you so much for making this video! This has been extremely helpful for me with getting ready to release some new music. I was going to release an EP with 5 new songs on it. But, after watching this, I think I will try to release the songs as singles first. Definitely sounds like that will be a more successful rout to go. Thank you for all your help!
I release a couple hours ago and did one thing different. I used slack and talked to people it has 300 streams in 2 hours and a playlist picked it up now. I open youtube and see this vid dawn. Haha.
Burstimo multiple I just looked up artists i liked via the feedback and via some of the same questions i have on their channels and linked up personally, really taking effort. I will try to make more connections on there too. But the thing is they all want good music to support or connect themselves, and therefor it works on both sides
For my next release in late May I am putting out a full album, but will be releasing every song as a single and putting them together on a project once they are all out. I will also be filming a simple music video for each song on my iphone to be released on youtube same day as release (Wednesdays). Along with that I will have a short video of me creating the song and post on my IG every week with a paid $5 a day ad campaign to drive that. Also for each single will be spending $50 on submithub. But for all of the cool youtube channels, twitch etc, and not focus on the blogs. It will be an 11 song release and I believe this will be more effective than putting out a whole album at once, or a single every 2 to 3 months.
Question! Do you guys think it's easier for artists to get on editorial playlists if they are already established? In your opinion, does an artist with 100k monthly listeners have a bigger chance to be considered for an editorial playlist vs. artist with 1k monthly listeners? Another question, what is the time span for tracks to be selected? For example, I've submitted a song for editorial playlists, say, a month before the release. Should I expect to know the answer on a day of release, or later? And if later, then how later? 6 months after, a year? Thanks a lot for your videos guys I love them SO much!!! Take care and stay safe.
You can get an editorial no matter what size, we've even had artists on editorial with a debut release. However, it's always easier to get playlisted if you have and audience as they want people to come to the platform. It really ranges when the playlists get updated. We've had tracks added to editorials up to 9 weeks after release!
From India. Agreed to your first two steps. Release strategy is something I am still working on. Spotify now releases 60,000 tracks in a single day. That's 50% growth in a year. Beyond Social Media promotions, I am exploring other methods to promote regional artist tracks. Do you think collaborating with BRANDS can help with anything? In a way, both can get equal visibility and leverage.
Another great video. In another video about planning release you described in detail pre-release tasks, and mentioned post-release tasks. Could you please do a video specifically on post-release tasks to drive up streams and awareness?
Hello! I had a question, maybe someone can answer. I uploaded my single, but due to delay problems I couldn’t pitch it to spotify for artists. That single will be included in an EP that I will release in a couple months. If i reupload the song w the same ISRC, would it let me pitch it? Or will I only be able to pitch any of the other 3 songs on the EP? Thank you!
