(EN)CANTOS DO DOURO - MAFÓMEDES

Que bom o mistério de não sabermos como era antes do tempo e do espaço!
Dizem que, depois, surgiu o caos primordial e a grande explosão do big-bang e da criação informe.
Veio então o grande espírito, pairar sobre os elementos e separá-los.
E tinha a forma de um sopro de vento vestido de uma nuvem branca e imensa que ia e vinha e rodopiava.
Surgiu, daí, um grande mar, que não se dizia ainda marão.
E o espírito separou o granito do xisto, os campos e os montes da água, que jorrava nos "espertos ribeirinhos" deslizando por entre os teixos, precipitando-se para outra correnteza maior, que diziam ser d'ouro.
Muito mais tarde, vieram, também das arábias, os adoradores de mafoma e ali fixaram o seu rebanho tão numeroso como as estrelas, onde a mais próxima aparecia lá no mais alto do horizonte, bem de madrugada e os homens adoravam-na porque lhes dava a luz e o calor, até lhe inventarem a forma de uma mulher, a quem ofereciam danças e cravos.
E tudo isto, o espírito "viu que era bom"...

How good it is that we don't know how it was before the beginning of time and space!
They say that after the primordial chaos occurred and the big bang explosion and the uniform creation.
Then came the great spirit, flying over the elements and setting them apart.
It had the shape of a breath of wind, dressed in a immense white cloud that would come and go and twirl.
From there it came the great sea, that wasn't called yet marão (big sea).
And the spirit separated the granite from the schist, the fields and the hills from the water that sprang in the streams sliding through the yews, going to a bigger flow that they said was made from gold (d'ouro).
Much later came, also from the Arabic region, the mafoma worshipers and there they settled their flock that was so abundant as the stars, where the closest star that appeared in the horizon, at the break of dawn and the men worshiped it because it gave them light and heat, until they gave it the shape of a woman to whom they offered dances and carnations.
And all this, the spirit "saw it was good"...
