Built a custom 13 foot whaler from a bare hull. Powered by a 40hp johnson and I'm so glad I went center console. It's like a jetski that can take all the fishing gear and lunch for 3 people
each size is different if you look at the hull designs between the 13 15.3 and 17, they all handle differently. the 15 with a big engine is tremendously nimble and possibly unforgiving. especially looking at these classics they have cult following and for good reason. if you can work the trim and the throttle. i will not deny, it might not be a jet ski i mean those things are essentially liter bikes on the water.(obviously not the same thing hit we don’t have kawasaki h2’s and R1’s on the water) but it’s the boat equivalent for sure. we used to crab pot race out on the river and the whalers were always king. the red dots are more planted as well due to the extra fiber glass in the hull they were designed for government use. so when you turn you get immediate turn in! they can go pretty much any where it’s up to you if you wanna bounce your brains out. mine has gone everywhere from the inter-coastal water way all the way up to the Delaware river. I have a 79 red dot whaler, and it’s extremely nimble and quick for its size due to the low gunwales you get a similar feeling as you would to a jet ski. so i can vouch for Breen. i can see why he made that comparison. I’ve ridden plenty hopped up jetski’s they’re like apples and and orange‘s yes they’re fruit but also completely different. the red dots in the 15 are another animal, the way it cuts through the water and turns is completely unique. your engine choice plays an enormous role in how they handle as well. i have a 15.3 sport red dot which was whalers pre government contract build. they’re were choice boats for the coast guard and other agencies, red dots signified the government hull. . my dad has a 84 supersport with a center console conversion with a 2 stroke yamaha 90 and a stainless steel prop, that thing flys! he also has a 27 dauntless with twin 225 optimax’s. all of our whalers handle differently. we even have a harpoon 5.2 (similar to a jy15 sailboat) my family has owned whalers since the 70’s so I’m obviously biased i’m clearly biased and i’m not trying to change your mind or your opinion just sharing. happy boating y’all! great video Breen!

Yeah the center console makes the boat 2 times better!
What an awesome toy!
That’s what I want my first boat to be
Been thinking about turning my 14 ft Gamefisher Tri-Hull into a center console. This boat is pretty sweet and makes me think it’s possible lol
Awesome go for it!
The 15' is MUCH BETTER with a 70 hp Yamaha. 🔥👍😉
Yeah that thing would fly!😯
Hi, how did you pull the wakeboarder? I didn't see a tow bar.
Transom ring
Nice boat! What size gas tank ?
it's a custom 10 gallon inside the console
ok... better handling than a jetski? get real, its a whaler dude calm down.
For Size it is
I’ve always found whalers to be pretty middle of the road in terms of handling, go drive a I/O ski boat, significantly better handling.
