Nice work! I have the same boat, 1965 13 ft.Whaler. Did the same thing you did ,roll and tip paint, came out beautifully. Restored all the mahogany. New Tahatsu 30 hp 4 stroke with power tilt. Handles the ocean well here on Cape Cod.
Wow! Beautiful. I have an old Boston Whaler, 13.4 Sport circa 1974 (or so the title says) 40 hp two-stroke Mercury from 1980-81. In good enough shape to enjoy, but two owners ago, they put in a center fiberglass console to drive from, only wood left is the piece over the anchor hold up front. Just had the engine serviced, new steering cables and console put in, and electric rewired. Some day I hope to have the funds to restore it all the way--as I sure don't have the skills to do it myself.
Nice rebuild 👍🏼…fishing from the 60’s and fishin from a 13’ freinds dad’s whaler then 17’ then running a 25’ outrage center console in the 80’s..I’m still impressed with the legacy of this brand!…retired now and looking at acquiring a 13’ whaler to fart around in …happy boating people 😎
You did a phenomenal and impressive job! I grew up with a brother who bought these regularly and restored them in the 60s and 70s...you are to be applauded.
Nice job ! I have a ‘66 with the original 50hp merc. Getting ready to flip it and bottom paint. I got lucky and found another 66 shorty this winter that was winterized and stored since the mid 70’s. Ironically I spent less on that than I did on the bottom paint…..
Really nice documentation of the restoration. I have a 1968 13" Whaler and currently in the process of restoring it. Thanks for sharing and please provide any updates!!!
Never was a big whaler fan low freeboard wet hard ride I have a stonnington skiff made in mystic Ct great boat and I owned a 16ft Maritime skiff that’s also one of my favorites Nice work though
Hi Dave outstanding video, I am just about to buy the exact same Whaler to restore , your video will be invaluable cheers is your boat for sale ?? kind regards Dave in the UK
This came out incredible! I also have a BW 13 Sport (1981) and I will need to repaint the sides and interior soon. What did you think of totalboat one part paint?
Awesome boat! Question for you. I noticed that you still had the non skid on the deck. How did you repair the cracks in the non skid, and also that little groove around the edge of the non skid. I’m debating sanding it all down. Thanks I’m advance!
Everyone thinks the original BW decals are huge when they see them in their hand. The original decals are big, but the whalers are slab-sided boats, a big white side w little to break it up. Once you see the the decal on the finished boat it looks proper. I've had some customers override this idea and go with a smaller decal. Never looks right. CHeck some old original pics for examples. Big decals.
you are blaming the VRO, but where both cylinders scored? why re-use the pump if you thought it was faulty? did you rebuild the carbs? these are all out atleast .002'' anyway, so its really not advisable to just hone them out. you were so close to having almost double the power!
What a super job you have done there. It looks superb and all the hard work and attention to detail shows. How is it all holding up now you have been using it for a while. Thanks from the UK

its should be in a museum after this amazing renovation
Beautiful job. I owned a mid 60s whaler in ft lauderdale as a kid. Still remember the joy experienced with it on the waterways

Beautiful boat! I think Boston Whaler would be proud of the job you did getting it back out on the water!
Wow, nice work. Thanks for taking the trouble to record your restoration.
Thank you!

That is awesome!
Super nice job. This brings back some nice memories. I had a 13' and 17' growing up in the 1970s.
Very nice restoration! I’ve done cars and vintage machine tools but only tinkered with boats. That’s something to be proud of.
Great job!!! We had a 17 footer with center mahogany console in our family when I was growing up on the bays on the east coast. Wish I had it now.....
What a great refit! My daughter and I are hoping to pick one up soon to restore together. Can't wait to show her this video.
Thank you!
Yep, that’s what my daughter and I did too. We really enjoy going out in it every summer here on Cape Cod.
Great job Dave ! very nice boat !
Very clean and tidy work, the colors are very consistent, and the engine size is very suitable. I wish you success❤
Thank you! Cheers!

Damned fine job, sir! Kudos!
I grew up with these boats, not the smoothest riding in a chop but solid as they come and will take a lot of punishment from a 15 year old boy.

Great job! I'm working on a restore project on the same model. Question.. what is the round hatch looking area in front of the seat on the bow?
Boat looks showroom new. 👍

Good question! The crazing wasn't bad on the inside, the thickness of the paint took care of it
Wow awesome job.
Thank you!
Hi- do I need to prime the inside of whaler first before putting the paint on or the paint already has the primer? Like this blue one here? Thank u
Yup you need to sand, fill and prime... then do it again. I used interlude epoxy primekote
Fico muito bom parabéns
Very Nice!!
What's the inside of the boat color called?
It was Whaler Blue

Nice Job! What's the shaft length on that motor?
Its a long shaft
