I feel compelled to give my impressions of this laptop having purchased two of theses at $599 on the nose, tax free. I was looking for an affordable device to take to work daily, to replace my aging Mac book. Thus far, I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase. Everything Andrew highlights in this video is spot on. I love the backlit keyboard. Typing on this laptop has been great. (typing this on it now). I find the laptop brightness to be good, my only complaint is the lack of variation in the brightness slider. In other words, going from say 70% brightness to 60 percent is a marked difference in brightness, but not as significant as going from 70% to %80. For some, 300 nits might be a dealbreaker, but I find this to be less of an issue than the glossy screen. However, i also observe that some of the glossiness is mitigated, when using the device in tablet mode. So, it's not a dealbreaker for me. There's so much this budget laptop does right, that I can't fault it for some of its perceived shortcomings. I was looking at a Mac book Air, prior to buying this laptop and fully expected to have tremendous buyers remorse, but I sincerely love this device and plan to keep it. I can't justify a Mac book air at over twice the price. As I said, I bought Two of these, at roughly the same cost as a single mac book air. It's a wonderful machine that suits my work needs.
If only they included Ryzen 6000 Cpu thi year with Rdna3 iGPU it would be a total beast, especially for low end students. But still Ryzen 5000 performs really good and has better battery performance than what Intel offers. Greal review as usuall Ansrew. Keep it up
I just got the Lenovo 13W yoga. it's 13.3" with 16 Gb ram, and 512 Gb gen4 storage. and the Ryzen 5625U, 6 cores, and 12 threads. with a Pen and the fingerprint reader in the power button! Full-size Card reader. its a powerhouse of a 2in1 Lenovo had a sale on the website so I went ahead and customized it with the specs I just mentioned. it cost $511
Also want to add it can definitely do newer games if you lower your settings/resolution, tested myself and I disagree with your conclusion on that, the integrated Vega graphics clocks to 1800mhz and perform very well for what they are, I even managed to overclock my sample to 2300mhz! Forza Horizon 5 at 720p medium settings got me almost 60 fps for example.
Beautiful laptop with Great Webcam quality and excellent internal mic quality as well! The price of $599 at Lenovo's website is a definite steal!! Excellent thorough review once again Andrew!!! 👍😁
I have just ordered this from currys in the uk for £699. For use indoors for my 5 year olds online homework. After watching your review I think this will be suitable for us. Great review.
We just bought the aluminum cover, 16GB, 1TB Ryzen 7 model of this in "dark teal" but the colour doesn't look teal at all. I would describe it as graphite, dark grey, nearly black, perhaps a VERY dark blue, before I would describe it as "dark teal". The box says it's the right one, but we are wondering if something got mixed up.

@@andrewmarcdavid This convertible checks all the boxes for me (except USB/Thunderbolt4) but I use my laptop mostly outdoors for productivity (office, PDFs, etc). Do you think I should look elsewhere?
you're lucky - I have a 920 (star wars edition) and the sound completely fried during the pandemic while I was teaching online. I'm not the only one, either - hundreds of people have had the same issue.
I purchased the Yoga 6 last August, (with the fabric on the cover) after three months of use the computer would shut down with 30 percent battery remaining, then 40%, 50%, 60% now it's shutting down with 80 percent battery remaining, (in three-week increments,) Lenovo customer service is absolutely terrible, from what i understand Lenovo quality has been going down for the past three years, (I was told this from computer techs.) I would not recommend this computer to anyone.
Any pen recommendations? Im pretty sure it uses wacom AES but i dont know if its 1.0 or 2.0. A safe pen option woud be the lenovo active pen 1. The active pen 2 could work but i think the yoga 6 needs to support AES 2.o but im not sure.
Good review. I picked one up last week and I like it but was surprised to that fedora nor ubuntu detected the realtek wifi making it less useful for my needs. Lenovo is usually pretty good at Linux support.
It's insane that the Lenovo Yoga 7 AMD version give you so much more. The only thing you truly miss is an old USB-A port and the difference is 300 bucks. WOW.
@@theegginthepantry365 I owned a Yoga 7 for a couple of days. I returned it because of annoying black spots on white backgrounds (which are essentially found everywhere). It was too annoying. This was the case because the laptop was touch and OLED-screen where such issue occurs. If you don't need two USB-A and want a laptop with bigger screen, then yes go for the yoga 7. One can say choosing OLED or IPS screen on a touch laptop differ from one to another, but personally I would go for IPS screen just because you avoid those black dots on white backgrounds. You can search black grain spot on whitebackground on OLED screen to read more about this issue. :)
The lack of the 3 buttons on the trackpad and red button on keyboard this device is what keeps it from being great imo. I love the trackpad buttons on my thinkpad far too much to not have em.
You should then try tap-to-click. Tap with one finger to left click and with 2 fingers simultaneously to right click. I found it way more productive and since then I hated physical buttons.
Nice PC at this price point. Camera was good and microphones sounded good. This PC appears to be a good choice for a student. Excellent review as always.
My suggestion would be the Asus Vivobook S14 Flip It's also a budget 2 in 1 but it's competition is the HP Envy X360 15. I suggest reviewing the lower tier because the Ryzen 7 model is just too overpriced
Your review sealed my purchase. For the i7 with 16GB RAM and 512 storage for $699 Best Buy holiday price. I COULDN'T be happier. I already have my gaming/creative computer at home, a Legion Slim 7 with dedicated graphics, at my desk at home but I still do need a powerful workhorse to use as my daily driver on the go. This leaves me wanting for nothing. GREAT size for portability and just enough power to tackle most things. For someone who doesn't like MacOS, what more could I want?
I have to admit, I've not been satisfied with mine. It struggles with apps that it's spec should run with ease, and the 2021 version at least, really struggles with Wifi. I have $30 microcontrollers that can hold a connection better. It blue screens intermittently on removal of the power cord (USB C) and can only be charged on one side of the laptops USB C. Was expecting a lot more for $1k. Also, strangely, does not do well with connecting to micro-controllers. Only recognizes an arduino about every other time, and then loses the com port randomly. I was doing Arduino cloud over the air updates, but will have to stop using this thing as I moved to another room and lost wifi, and bricked an arduino because it partially updated, then lost the wifi signal that the arduino seems to be able to maintain from outside the house.
