Good stuff, man! I've had this happen to me a couple of times. This cop did everything right, his body was position behind the driver, he was very clear in his speech and instructions. There was no confusion. I applaud this police officer.
Serious question: why is being positioned behind the driver a good thing? As far as I can tell it's a power play, and to make the driver twist uncomfortably. Makes more sense for the cop to stand by the A pillar where he can see the driver and the driver see him. Enlighten me.
Warren Jensen it is exactly for that reason. The harder for the driver to see or face the officer, the harder it would be for the driver to cause the officer harm in the event the driver was a threat. It’s a common safety procedure.
@@Stuff_CS Okay, thanks for that. I don't reckon I've ever had a policeman stand behind me like that, it seemed to me like a power play. When I've been stopped they always stand either right beside my driver's door or stand at the A pillar facing me. But then again we don't get officers being shot here in Australia so that is a very minimal threat on a daily basis. Thanks again for the kind answer.

I just got pulled over for the first time while carrying. I told him I was carrying. He just said he didn't care and respects my right to carry in my state of Washington. Never brought it up again. Cop asked for registration and insurance didn't give me a ticket told me he cared about my well being and to drive safe. And that was it.
I’m in California and informed the cop after getting pulled over for a loud exhaust. The cop asked for additional four squad cars and guns drawn in a ready position. One of the cops is a friend of mine and he apologized. He said they do that to nonwhites since we tend to be more aggressive and causing most of the crimes.
@@ACommenterOnTH-cam When they pull you over they already have it on record that you have a concealed carry permit. So when the cop approaches your vehicle they're going to be nervous. If you reach too fast for something that could very easily get you killed. Letting officer know that you're carrying and where the weapon is located will calm the officers nerves. Which vastly reduces the chance that you'll be shot resulting in your death. Also sometimes cops have a ride along cop in training with them If that amateur cop knows you're carrying and they think you're reaching for something Once again that can get you shot and killed very easily
In Washington your CPL will come up when they run your name and probably also for your tags if the vehicle is registered to you. We plan to move back for half the year as soon as we can, it's still a wonderful state.

Most i've ever had was 7 removed in a single surgery. That was years ago but i don't think it fucked me up as much as having all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once
@Ethan James Being not from the US of A, I'm amazed how heavily sedated/drugged patients get simply for minor surgery. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed in one sitting and it was locally numbed and it worked flawlessly. I hear stories when people leave the hospital with 8-10 heavy duty painkillers that are highly addictive "just in case". I see very little of "as much as needed but as little as possible".
I’ve been stopped numerous times both in car and on a motorcycle, open carry no ccw, usually they have “removed it for their safety” and then put it in my trunk or left it somewhere for me to get after they leave. Of course that’s been a few years since run ins like that, I’m sure cops these days are a bit more sketchy about it.
For new viewers: given that you ARE licensed to carry in the state you're pulled over in, be sure to inform that you are licensed prior to saying that you're armed.
@@riotmakr Most states don't require you to say shit. However, if you DO say anything, then the specific sequence my original comment mentions is the least problematic, in the event that an officer is short fused. "I'm properly licensed to carry the firearm I have on me." vs. "I have shooty-shooty, but I'm licensed though."
Remember guys: OP isn’t saying that you have to be licensed to have a gun on your person in all 52 states. There’s plenty of places where open carry without a license is common practice. They’re just saying that in the event you are carrying a firearm in a state that _requires_ a license for the firearm and the way you’re carrying it, the best way for everyone to have a safe encounter like this is to openly state that you have a state-approved license showing that you are competent and safe with that weapon _before_ stating that you have said weapon on your person. It helps the police understand that they are likely dealing with a reasonable person and not some hotshot who’d as soon shoot them in the face as talk to them. In the event that you’re carrying a firearm that is “illegal” in that area, what you choose to say about it is between you, God, and the crooks who decided they want to challenge our right to bear arms. You made your choice and now you gotta deal with it, regardless of how “legal” their demands are.
Note that when the driver reaches for his wallet at the 40 second mark, the LEO puts his hand on his pistol, ready to draw. Note that this obvious defensive maneuver doesn't offend the driver at all. The LEO's hand returns to his pistol reflexively at the 1:10 mark when the driver reaches into the "hand" box. Again, the driver remains unoffended.

Did the driver even notice this? I doubt it. Makes sense that the officer would want to be prepared just in case. But even so, as a Latino, moments like these make me nervous. Always have my hands on the steering wheel, keys on the dash, music off. I always state where my license, insurance, and registration are and request permission before reaching. I've had it where I'm pulled over and requested to take off my motorcycle jacket because it was hot, and was told, "why? So you can make a run for it? No."

I advise my clients never to say the word "gun" or "handgun" because I'm always concerned that an unseen partner might walk up on the passenger side and only hear "gun". Otherwise, excellent. Polite, respectful, telling the officer you are armed and licensed. Not being combative or short. Keep your hands where the officer can see them. Fully cooperate. Bottom line, if you show the officer you respect them, remain calm, and cooperate, 99.9% of the time, nothing will happen. Most of the time, showing them respect, being calm, showing your hands, giving them information identifies you as not a piece of sh*t who might shoot them. Let them see your license and ccp. I've been stopped and having a ccp ended up being something the officer used to justify a warning instead of a ticket. My black clients who follow these steps have never had a problem.
@@Stuff_CS
Okay, thanks for that.

@@ACommenterOnTH-cam When they pull you over they already have it on record that you have a concealed carry permit.
So when the cop approaches your vehicle they're going to be nervous.

For new viewers: given that you ARE licensed to carry in the state you're pulled over in, be sure to inform that you are licensed prior to saying that you're armed.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing
In my state you do not have to tell the officer you are carrying concealed.
@@riotmakr Most states don't require you to say shit. However, if you DO say anything, then the specific sequence my original comment mentions is the least problematic, in the event that an officer is short fused.
"I'm properly licensed to carry the firearm I have on me."
vs.
"I have shooty-shooty, but I'm licensed though."
My license was the 2nd admendment

Otherwise, excellent. Polite, respectful, telling the officer you are armed and licensed. Not being combative or short. Keep your hands where the officer can see them. Tell them what you are going to do before you do it or ask "how would you like me to proceed", then repeat the instruction before doing it.

@@ufonomicon even more reason to know how to handle this situation.
1) be calm
2) turn off your music and car
3) roll down your window
4) be respectful and polite
5) keep your hands on the steering wheel until the officer asks you to do something
6) tell the officer what you are going to do and ask them if that is ok
7) say "officer, I am a licensed concealed carry permit holder and have my firearm today. It is in a holster at my 4 o'clock position
8) let the officer tell you what to do. If you don't understand, ask them to repeat it (I have to sweep past my firearm to get my wallet out, is that ok?)
9) if for some reason, after doing all of that, you think the officer is uncomfortable, ask them if they would prefer to disarm you themselves, then describe the holster (I have an inside the waistband kydex hosted attached to my belt by one easy to remove clip)
10) if the officer wants to disarm you, let them.
Most of the time, trouble comes from acting strangely or otherwise escalating the situation needlessly.
One of the more dangerous thing cops do is your run of the mill traffic stop. Make them feel safe.
You want to fight the ticket? Cool. That's what court is for. Hire a guy like me. Never on the street.
I have a simple rule - I'm never going to hand an officer my firearm. Ever. Period. If an officer orders me to hand them my gun, I say "I would prefer it if you took it off of me. Would you like me to step out of the vehicle?"
@Micah agreed. That's not a good reason to test it. As my concealed carry instructor says, do you want to test that theory or be as safe as possible?

This is such a good example of how every stop like this could be done smoothly and without any conflicting opinions
