Hi Fina, thanks for putting these videos together. Hopefully someone with influence at MG is watching! I’ve had an MG4 Trophy for two months and I do find some elements to be very annoying. I have to turn off three systems in ‘MG Pilot’ every time I get in the car. 1. Road Sign Recognition. If the car misses a road sign and it thinks you’re going above the speed limit (even if you actually aren’t) it continues to flash the speed limit it thinks it is. This is very distracting and therefore unsafe. 2. Lane Keeping Assist. You mention this in your first video, and it really is awful. As you said, rather than increasing safety I believe it does quite the opposite. How NCAP and similar safety testing agencies haven’t recognised this is beyond me. 3. Front Assist. The car performed an emergency brake on me from around 5 or 10mph when I indicated right to leave the road I was on. There was oncoming traffic (I’m in the UK so drive on the left) so I knew I’d have to wait, but the car just slammed on the brakes. It was such a shock, and again, very dangerous as I could have been hit from behind. In addition to these three points I also find the infotainment system to be very difficult to use, the screen is just too insensitive to the touch. Again this is dangerous as trying to use it really does take your attention off the road.
Hi Charlie, thanks a lot! I felt it was important, the strictly positive reviews that don't test anything properly and don't mention important issues were just getting to me. I'm glad that I can convey to people what others are really worried about so that they won't be disappointed, and I hope that I can also put a bit of pressure on MG to start addressing these problems and, more importantly, start communicating with customers! It's unbelievable that customers have no info or anywhere to look for it, just "LKA - we know about it, we're working on improvements." The silence is appalling. And new software releases without a list of bug fixes! Heads should roll for that - not only at MG, it's the same with my Citroen e-C4 - you download 5 GB of new software all the time and have no idea why, then like a fool you look for what they made worse and what they made better. Typically, I come up with nothing. 😅 It's really unreal.
I do hope some of my videos might make a difference and as you say, someone with influence will watch them and start implementing changes!🤞
Yes I’ve heard it’s not just MG, so it’s interesting to hear about your Citroen. The real surprise for me on this is the safety testing. Agencies such as NCAP are the ones who are meant to hold the manufacturers to account for their failings, and it appears in certain instances that they just aren’t. In fact quite the opposite, if it is indeed them who are insisting that software on cars that isn’t fit for purpose (such as the MG4’s LKA) are reset to ‘on’ every time you get in the car! It seems like utter madness to me, and completely at odds with what they should be doing, which is not allowing such poor software to be allowed on the roads in the first place.
I think their LKA tests are simply inadequate - the manufacturer tweaks software to work well on their test road, but in real world traffic it's awful and unfortunately at that point the only testers are customers, who can't give feedback to NCAP. It's frustrating, but I guess perhaps it would be quite complicated to test all this different software in different cars in real conditions and come up with a uniform set of acceptable results.
I have some experience with my MG4 SE(RHS model) and is as follows:
(1)Both the interior and the exterior temperature is given on the MG app after checking the Vehicle status.
(2) Have not checked the USB playback option as yet
(3) There is no SNOW/SPORTS bug, mine show the correct wording
(4) I can see the icons very well due to the sharp display, and so far I have no issues with the touch screen.
(5) Agreed, an additional middle ceiling light could be better, but in most cases one may switch both front ceiling lights at once to increase the light intensity. If it bothers anyone , one may install a cheap small magnetic stick on USB rechargeable wireless lighting at the sides of the car.
(6) I have no issue with the undertray so far.
(7) For me adjusting the AC fan at 7 is sufficient is not that noisy. It get noisy at full fan speed, like other older cars that I have driven before. I do not consider this an issue at all.
(8) The range indicator readjusts whenever you change the way you are driving. I have no serious complaints with it. My battery indicator is consistent.
(9) Android auto works perfectly, provided that you make the proper adjustments on your android phone. I had initial issues with Spotify, but sorted it out by setting Spotify the AutoStart option.
(10) So far I have no issues with my local Customer Service, but in all fairness I do not yet have any issues to complain about.
Although the MG4 lacks a frunk, the circular bag containing the type 2 can be placed under the bonnet, on top of the flat plastic cover. The hood closes normally with no issues.
I am very happy with my MG4, and recommend it to potential buyers that think that all the mentioned issues are present in a new car. My impression is that in certain instances one might have a couple of issues, but certainly not all the mentioned issues occurring simultaneously.
The issues certainly vary from owner to owner and I also don't think anyone has had all of them in one car. Despite some of these hiccups, most owners are still overall happy with their MG4, just like you. The LKA seems to be the most serious issue and even there I've definitely heard mixed issues. Still, as long as owners who have issue with it remember to turn it off, not even that is a dealbraker.
Hopefully even these smaller issues will get resolved in the future to make the MG4 an even more awesome car. Thank you for sharing your insight! 😊
That's a very enlightening intro. 😅 I did consider MG4 for my next car but I think I will wait to see if they work the kinks out and also it gets easier to service!

So because I’m impatient and indecisive I’ve gone from wanting the Kia Stonic( Feb 24 date 😢) to the MG4 SESR Pearl Black to a Holborn Blue Long Range. The dealers off with a nervous breakdown I think now 😂
But… I’ve picked it . I’ve gone back to the Short range as the MEGEV forum favours it and back to Pearl Black.
Now then, no it’s no rear wiper , back centre headrest nor one pedal driving but, I’m coming from the hybrid Kia niro and am used to LKa and after three yrs I gen don’t even notice when it’s on now! I always have brake regen to it’s highest because I love the fact it slows down without having to touch brakes. Never had a satnav only Apple play and never have anyone in the back expect family visiting three times a year from Approx. 90 miles away so back seat stuff doesn’t bother me either.
I’m more looking forward a lot , to having a EV, and the ride with it being RWD as I’m am a driver by nature and love it. ❤
Ah! Back to the Pearl Black. I would've probably gone with that myself, though Long Range definitely would have its perks.
When I drive in the city, I always have adaptive cruise control.. it would bother me to drive with "one pedal" because I'd have to keep the pedal in position all the time.. feel like my foot would get tired.😅 It took me a little getting used to but now I'm perfectly happy using mostly just my thumbs to drive.
RWD is definitely the way to go for a fun driving experience! 🤩 I bet you'll love your MG4!
Haha, it's pretty clear which one you are referring to, but I'll be honest, you have a lovely voice either way you say it :))
Getting back to serious stuff though, luckily having a Trophy version (UK)/highest spec for the rest of the world, most things related to audio playback, from the way it reads files in a usb stick to having more speakers and a 3d arkamys SW processor means one less item to get annoyed with!
The icon thing does happen to me as well. Seems to be related to older software and auto-headlights being on, which also changes the mode from day to dark. I've bypassed this by making sure I keep it to day mode only.
The rear does seem dark without any sort of lights, some have added LEDs indeed, I've not needed any because I rarely have anyone in the back, all I've done was purchase a removable armrest with cupholders to make it more comfortable.
The HVAC compressor is noisy, yes! the sound is likely more from a control but next time I go to the dealers, I will see if they are aware of any fix involving the oil change. To me it sounds like a PWM control issue but I may be wrong.
SOC - did not have an issue with I but I'll keep an eye on it
The app! ah, one of the worst things about the car, cannot precondition when you're plugged in and not charging, refreshing the status message increases the interior temperature every time you refresh, to silly numbers etc.
The navi - don't use it, mainly because it has too little features related to charging, non updated maps so I just
And yes - comms with MG is poor! I don't trust the dealers to pass on the info, I don't feel like they're doing this as they should. Working in the industry, I know how other manufacturers have divisions that look at in market issues and complaints to fix and improve their models, I just don't see that in MG. They rolled out the updated version with hardware changes and one pedal driving but they're ignored the previous users. Who does that after 1 year? really unprofessional as far as I'm concerned.
But I'll stick to my initial statements - compromised or not, I still enjoy it and have had more fun with it than some of my friends/neighbours with ID3s...
I'm glad that for most people it's clear I'm indeed not trying to insult them right off the bat.. think I'll hang on to my greeting for a bit longer 😄
It's great that the USB is seamless in the Trophy at least.. those playback issues would be really annoying to me. I definitely feel for SE owners here. Seems really unfair.
Some of the noises I've heard coming from the AC are quite disconcerting, I do hope your next dealer visit will take care of this issue.
The app really sounds like amateur hour 😅 I have to cut MG a little slack here, as I’ve had my fair share of frustrations with the Citroen app. Is it really that hard to make a functioning app? I mean I really have no idea but jeeze, seems like it shouldn't be rocket science.
YES, the customer service aspect is the most disappointing part for me. I get it - it's a relatively new car, and growing pains are expected. But MG could significantly improve the situation just by communicating effectively and showing that they care about their existing customers. It would not only help current owners but also make the brand far more appealing to prospective buyers. It’s surprising that they aren't seizing this as an opportunity to build customer loyalty. Word of mouth is still pretty important, especially when I can go online and find HEAPS of it.
In any case, I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your car more than people you know with their ID3s. And I'm not surprised. VW should still be wearing the cone of shame for that piece of work. 🙄
The undertray on my MG4 had the bulging issue, that is until somehow it got torn off from the car! I didn't even notice it happening... Maybe I went over a speedbump too fast and it came off then because it hangs down below the car? The undertray is clearly made of cheap, easily malformed and breakable plastic. Dealership wants £130 for a replacement. MG refuse to cover it on warranty, despite the bulging design flaw... I'm worried if I pay for a replacement, I'll have the same issue again. Dealer says there's important components that need protecting so they strongly recommend a replacement undertray. Also the LED light in the glovebox doesn't turn on anymore and needs replacing, which is another £15. Not great for a 12-month-old car.
I don't understand how MG service can ask you to pay for obvious manufacturing defects. 🤨 That's very sad and disappointing to hear. Terrible customer service.

I own a MG in Indonesia and communation channels basically don't exist. Absolute frustrating when MG does not even take care of manufacturer's defects.
Hey, I understand your frustration. I would also like to hear from MG about various technical things, what are the software update versions, what are the changes, what has been fixed... but nothing. So people write to me here and are either happy or very dissatisfied with the same things, depending on their software version. For example, someone may have an older version, but the repair shop tells them there is no update and similar stories. 🫤 They should not only have marketing but also a technical department online

I have error 47 from the start i bought the car 6 weeks ago had an update to R46 but did not solve the error.
The error is from the ISmart app when i try to preconditioning the car, its only working when the car is plugged in.
Also my car will always load to 100% when its loading despite the setting to 80% in the app and car.
Do you also have the latest version of iSmart? In the latest version of the R46 software you should be able to heat without a connection according to the discussion forums..

By preconditioning i mean not the battery but the inside of the car maybe i was not clearly,sorry for that.
I can unlock and lock the doors but heating and cooling the inside of the car is not working.
When i use the slider in the app the indicator lights will flash ons but nothing happens.
Oh my gosh. It seems that once again this "issue" is all over the place - for some people it doesn't work when plugged in, for other ONLY when plugged in. I did some digging on the MGEVs forum and looks like it's a mixed bag. Really ridiculoud 🙄😅

Since making this video, I have to say I've seen things change a little... MG seems to be listening a bit and making some software improvements, but they are still garbage at communicating with customers.
I'm preparing a video on the MG4 XPower and it has an improved climate control screen. So it seems there is some feedback being taken into account, at least for newer models. I think the biggest problem is that there is no information available about software versions and their improvements. There are a lot of MG4s with different software versions, hence the vastly different user experiences depending on who you talk to. To sum it up - it's one big mess!
oh so good to hear I ordered a car with is impossible to drive. I should take mine on Sunday but it turns out key doesn't work. Of course, they don't know how long it's take to fix it.
Ouch! That will put right off won't it. Fingers crossed they get it fixed soon! You will most likely enjoy driving your MG4 (most owners do), but there are definitely some birthing pains to put up with... I hope it will get resolved very quickly for you.
Thank you. Turns out it was blocked for transport. Drives good, feels good. I was surprise about temperature settings its fine don't have to rase it to feel comfortable. Nothing negative for now. @@@siasek

Are these valid with the recent MG4 refresh (that includes the middle headrest etc)
Unfortunately it's not easy to arrive at a definitive answer to that question. For example, the sagging/bulging udertrays are an issue for some owners of even brand new models, while others insist that it has been fixed and is no longer a problem.
If you're considering buying an MG4, I'd recommend visiting the mgevs.com discussion forum to see what owners are saying.

Whilst I don’t have my MG4 Long Range, it gets delivered at the end of the month 😆 Most of the issues I don’t think are going to bother me, considering the price of the MG4. However, the under tray bulge is causing me cold sweaty nightmare filled sleepless nights. It seems on the MGforum that some MG4 owners are getting this sorted under warranty. Surely if one has problems getting their dealer to sort this then all they need to do is show proof from the forum? If one has had it sorted doesn’t this give way for everyone having theirs fixed?
I don’t even think the Lane Kill Assist will bother me too much, it’s like a perk given free from MG, it’s called NDE, Near Death Experience 😂

Good point about leveraging proof from the MG forum when dealing with the dealership. It seems logical that if one person has gotten the issue fixed under warranty, others should be entitled to the same treatment. It would be a smart move to find out which service number you need to contact ahead of time, just so you’re prepared (for the issues you will surely not be having!).
I love your take on the Lane Kill Assist - “Near Death Experience,” indeed 😂. You know, NDEs are often said to be life-changing and enlightening, so perhaps MG is just doing their part to help make the world a more insightful place, one near-miss at a time.
@@siasek think of all the people MG are trying to help. Mr B is having a rough time at home with the wife, drives home and lane kill assist almost drives him into the path of an oncoming lorry. Mr B comes home realising what he could have lost and then everything is all rosey. Thanks MG 👍

Glad I am not getting the SE. Which firmware the problems relate to might make this video more relevant. Have any updates happened which have fixed this. The latest firmware seems to have made a few changes but maybe this video was made earlier.

@@siasek I have watched it. I have seen an update report from Jerry Pan in NZ describing the way you can save the adaptive cruise control distance now and a range of different features including swipe down, plus improved corner automatic slow down.

Thanks for the update! Despite all of the good points of the MG 4, I could not live with some of these issues after spending all that money. I'm afraid my next car will still be a petrol one, even though I'd prefer an EV (I have a good job but did not win the lottery neither do I want to take a loan for a new car). I'm surprised that MG pushed an updated with so many bugs... why not wait until testing is complete? The remark about the introduction is just silly, a person wanting to provoke a reaction, please don't pay attention to people like that.
Your concerns are totally valid - it's a substantial investment, and everyone has different levels of tolerance for these kinds of issues.
Unfortunately, I feel like even petrol cars they aren’t immune to software problems these days. A case in point is the VW Golf 8. It used to be synonymous with reliability and quality, but recent models have also been riddled with software issues. One of my viewers @ytdood mentioned in a comment on my last video that as cars continue to become more software-centric, these problems are likely to persist and possibly worsen. It's an annoying trend, for sure.
But I do agree with you - the more I delve into the MG 4, the more taken aback I am by how unfinished this car seems to have been upon release. It's somewhat disheartening. Even though most owners still love their MG4 despite these problems, since it's really a joy to drive, it's not a good look for MG from the outside looking in.
Regarding the introduction - don't worry, I didn't take it to heart or anything. It gave me a good laugh, so I wanted have a little fun with it! 😄

Did you drive a Trophy/Luxury or the SE/Standard version? The SE only has speakers in the front, which must be awful in terms of sound qality. I've heard MANY complaints about LKA. Such as shame. Most trun it off every time before driving
