    I’m looking into buying the ec4 2023 model most of the issues you’ve mentioned are fixed in the 23 model like SOC and heat pump for the battery and a new updated infotainment system would you recommend buying it with all of these changes is it reliable ?

    • @siasek
      @siasek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The new infotainment seems better, at least it doesn't have the two huge temperature stripes on each side, and it'll be great if they put a straightforward and informative SOC, but overall I don't think a new e-C4 is worth the money. It's just not a modern EV with many compromises, and I don't feel good about its steering because of the poor handling. Have you looked at all towards Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, Nio, or Hyundai? Or are they significantly more expensive in your area? I'm planning a video on the things that are great about the e-C4 (HUD, LKA, HDA, but I honestly can't think of anything else).
      What do you mean with the heat pump being fixed? Is it expected to realistically heat the battery now?

      @@siasek the only two EVs available in my country are the mg4 and the ec4,
      mg4 is available in standard long range and the ec4 is fully loaded from what I’ve seen the build quality and the overall used material in citreon is way better than mg4 the seats and the buttons and more the ec4 sits higher on the ground which makes it more appealing and useful it has more space and offers a better equipment for the same price as the LR mg4 they are around 48,000 usd dollars in my country they’re expensive and i need to make sure that its woth it, some of the points you’ve mentioned in the video are correct but I don’t think they’re that big of deal and I’m thinking of keeping the car for a long time i need it to be reliable for almost 8 years so what do you think as an ec4 owner

    • @siasek
      @siasek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, while the 2023 model does look a little better, it still doesn't seem like a vast improvement to me. The review I saw made me feel like a lot of the reviews I watched prior to purchasing my e-C4 -- everything seemed very positive, but once I actually became an owner, I realized there's a lot to be desired that none of the reviews covered. So I'm a bit wary.
      I do agree that it's nice that the e-C4 sits up higher, definitely makes it a better choice for roads that aren't in a great shape. The LKA and HDA are very good in the e-C4. ( A lot of MG4 owners complain about their LKA.) But because of the weird steering without any feedback from the wheels, I honestly just don't feel fully sure while driving the e-C4. I don't feel as much control as I'd like or as I'm used to from previous cars I've owned. Which isn't the best feeling. I got mine as a year-old used car, so I got it for approx. half the price of a new one. For half the price, I'd say it was worth it, but I wouldn't pay full price.
      I did one more video about my e-C4 where I point out some more shortcomings, and I've done several on MG4, both about its positive and negative sides, so I definitely recommend watching some of them to get a bit more insight.
      Would you have a chance to test drive both cars? I think that's what may be the deciding factor - really find out if you feel confident driving the e-C4. The MG4 may not have as nice a design and materials perhaps, but the driving feel is much better (to me). So I think it'll really come down to which one suits you the best in terms of driving.

    We don’t get the Citroen in Australia yet but the MG4 is selling well. The Megane and ID4 are coming next year, but as you know I went Polestar!

    • @siasek
      @siasek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hah, of course you did! Polestar is the best choice in my book as well if you don't mind the price tag. And definitely the most fun to drive. 🤩
      I just started taking a closer look at the Megane E-Tech, as I'm considering making a video about it, and that actually doesn't look half bad.

      @@siasek My Ec4 is May 23. I have an Ohme charger. On the app which controls the Ohme charger I tap the three horizontal lines and then tap manage my EV. I then tap Charge Schedules. I only have 1 Schedule which is set for 7 days to charge between the cheap rates I have with Octopus energy . I tap the Charge Schedules and above the weekday settings is a slider with Added Range. I have already checked the level of my battery and so I know how much charge is in my battery. Lets say it is 30% and I wish to charge to 75% I just adjust the slider to add 45%. My charger will then, after I have plugged the car in, stop charging when it has added 45% to my cars battery capacity. I hope you find this helpful. As I said earlier I have an Ohme Charger. I do not know how other chargers apps work but I trust they must be similar.

    Get in touch with Fina if you want to exchange your MG 4 for an e-C4😄 Serious note, I think PSA/Stellantis have had serious issues with their SOC and therefore decided not to display it, except when charging. Same applies to all the other cars with the same platform, 208,2008, Corsa, DS3 etc. Please understand that SOC is not like a fuel gauge, it is not an absolute value, it's a "best guess" output by the car's BMS. On the 2023 update the SOC has returned again, the e-C4 with the new infotainment system have it.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think a company that has a problem showing something as primitive as SOC should maybe steer clear of EV production 😄. The cluttered bargraph displays SOC, they just weren't bothered to display clear percentages. The fact that they can do it in the new model but can't update the driver display software on older models, nor offer to replace it, just shows that they don't care about the owner anymore after the purchase. That's what they're doing with the shiny black plastics 🙄.

    • @CreRay
      @CreRay 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@siasek Fina, I work in the business, take one thing from me: SOC is *everything* but primitive. Unlike the remaining fuel, SOC is not something that can physically be measured. Smaller adjustments of the SOC are not readily visible on the bar graph, but are if you display them as percentage. "they just weren't bothered" is not how engineers work, someone has to specify whether to display it or not. Surely the outcome of a lot of discussion to hide something that every other EV will display. I think it's time you buy a new EV as you're clearly not happy with it.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't think SOC was primitive, but displaying percentages as numbers when I have all the data for the bargraph and for the charging screen seems like it should be easy! I could program it in a morning with the help of ChatGPT.. They just ditched it in the early years of e-C4 because they didn't get around to it, or forgot about it. And they didn't add it until the 2022 model year while showing that they had to replace the display in front of the driver because they couldn't program it! So an update for the first models is not possible.
      This is the European approach to software in a nutshell. 🙂 Quite a shame in my opinion.. Still, it's probably one of the reasons they're available for a decent price just one year used. Which is what I got. For that price it's "okay", but I don't think anyone should pay what they're asking for a new one. That's all 😄

    Interesting approach to EV design front Citroen. I prefer my tech to be thoroughly thought out. I am glad I opted for the MG4. I do have to admit that the fact that my initials are also MG was a factor. As a much younger man I always wanted an MG TD but mostly for the way it looked rather than its practicality.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, the e-C4 has a nice outside design, but most of the car itself is simply not thought out properly. I looked up the MG TD and I can see why you would've wanted it, it looks really cool! It's the kind of car I think of for long Sunday drives through the countryside. Maybe not practical for day to day use, but I do love the look as well

    The e-C4 is a great car, spacious, comfortable, good price. Sadly it is let down by its EV specs, the battery is too small and it charges at far too low power
    Stellantis need to stop making EVs on combustion platforms

    • @siasek
      @siasek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd say it depends on what you compare it to. In my opinion, it's an average but likable car and a below average EV. Considering the size of the battery, it recharges very quickly at 75+ kW in the summer, but in the winter it's not great for DC charging (coldgate). Overall, I'm more annoyed than pleased with the car. 😅

    • @CreRay

      The charging speed is more than OK for its size. A 39kWh Kona needs close to double the time 10-80%!

    Honestly guys don’t listen to this video. Not sure what Citroen has done to her. The E-C4 is a great car - I’ve driven it for 10k miles and it’s 1 of the most comfortable cars I’ve ever driven. And It looks way better than the MG. I average 8km per kwh which makes it really cheap to run.
    The steering is light and responsive, and what she fails to say is most EV drivers are not smooth drivers without a heavy foot - but if you switch it into sport mode and floor it it is fast - not Tesla fast but if your coming from a conventional car to this it’s fast.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think we have a different idea of what makes a great car. While it has some pros, the e-C4 has a long way to go toward greatness. And I don't think it's up to me to judge what kind of drivers "most EV drivers" are... that seems unfair as I only have a small sample size, so why would I mention that? Plus I'm not sure how it relates to the fact that there is little to no feedback from the road to the steering wheel. 🤷
