- As you may have heard, Nintendo has announced that Charles Martinet has made the decision to retire from his roles as the Mario Bros., Wario, and Waluigi, but will continue his tenure with the company as their brand-new "Mario Ambassador." For over thirty years, Martinet has inspired countless players around the world with his positive, cheerful attitude and his wonderful portrayal of our favorite portly plumber.
Today, I'd like to celebrate his legacy as he passes on the torch to whoever will voice the Mario Bros. from Super Mario Bros. Wonder onward.

Unless I’m mistaken, Charles’ final role before stepping down was as Mario’s dad in the movie.

Genuinely insane that this cover (Which includes 4 different characters, AND art as well) was made only about half a day after Martinet's retirement was announced, the man totally deserves it though, this is a worthy send-off to his career (Specifically using Mario 64's Staff Roll is a nice detail)
I respect the hell out of Martinet for choosing to retire now, though in a way his retirement is kind of a reminder that there's so many other video game legends out there, like Miyamoto, that we're gonna say goodbye to sooner than we expect

Y'know, seeing the 4 together really made it sink in how special Charles was. He gave an iconic distinct performance for 4 different characters. It's not gonna be the same without him but I wish him the best and welcome the future. Thank you so much for to playing Mario Charles.

Man I say he's a center point of gaming itself. Mario is as known as Mickey or Superman and that voice is a big point to it. Everyone knows the voice and I will miss hearing him but the ride goes on and all us fans can still meet the legend himself

This was always my favorite Mario tune, of all the games and all the music. Seeing it used in the ultimate love letter to a man who gave his all to his many characters... is immensely fitting. The lyrics, the performance, the music... and to Charles himself, I heavily and happily weep to it all. Charles, you be the best damn ambassador you can be and thank you so much for lending your voice for all to hear.

This song made me tear up. It's really well made. I don't have much childhood memories of me playing Nintendo games cuz I was mostly a PlayStation child but my god... Once I grew up I experienced a lot of the Nintendo games I missed out on and I'd like to say:
Mario games are some of the most fun games I've played. From 64 to Galaxy to Odyssey, all of the games are really good.

They say grown men shouldn't cry, but I wept here. Martinet has put smiles on the faces of countless people around the world, and it all started with one little interview. Mario won't be the same without him, but I'm happy for him and glad that he willingly made this choice.

Edit: I have this in my sleep playlist and I realized the arrangement for the vocals, it's SATB. Mario is the melody/soprano part, Luigi is the Alto part, Waluigi is the Tenor part, and Wario is the Baritone/Bass part. It's beautiful

Martinet fully deserves this! He was so loyal to Mario as the offical voice, proud of his work, loved sharing stories and saying hello to fans in the voices. To think he went in the role for so long and did what no other VA for video games have done. He deserves all the respect for all he’s done in regard to voice acting.
