In 5:17 it made me think that Sonic. EXE was like Asriel. He cares about the player but trying to entertain them not knowing its the wrong way. He just doesnt want to be evil. He wants to be saved. He wants the player forever so he doesnt have to be alone anymore. Cool detail if it was intended.

THIS! This is what Sonic.exe should have been.
Instead of a demon, EXE is just a glitch, a malware that infects the game, corrupting and twisting it into this amalgamation of the blue blur. Sonic still has his persona, but now is this demented glitched version that eats away at all the other gigabytes of the game by killing off the other characters.
In the creepypasta, Sonic, instead of becoming a plushie, could instead spread from the game onto the rest of the computer. Do things like replace the background with his face, corrupt data, mess with his life, and destroy virtually everything.
The cult of EXE can still be a thing, but instead of following the demon, they can follow the virus after its gained an AI sentience (which is much more sci-fi realistic than demonic possession).
EDIT: Holy shit. I had no idea people thought so fondly of this idea. I mean, the original had its problems and is an icon of cliche, but it was still fun to listen to when read by people who can edit and voice-over well to bring it to life.
If Sonic.EXE does get another fan game, I want this idea to come to fruition, too. Don't get me wrong.

yeah, his art is probably the best art of sonic.exe. its not even supposed to be in some fangame as a jumpscare or anything so that also gives it more points, its actually good with neat shading and has the characters have good expressions on their faces, and doesnt just download some blood png and puts it there.

I've recently been thinking about making an EXE AU where instead of being a demonic entity possessing a game, they are an actual monster in the Sonic universe.
Considering Sonic has fought elder gods and dopplegangers, fighting an elder god that looks like him seems to be the next natural step.
His own Mephiles, if you will.
In the comments there's another good EXE idea that's technically the exact opposite, making them just a glitch that somehow becomes advanced AI. Either way, best way to fix EXE is to remove the meta and 4th wall breaking elements.
You can do it with the demon idea too, just look at the nightmare series and spirits of hell, those dont use the 4th wall break, all happens inside their world, even they are from that world, not from this
Here’s an idea, it’s something similar to how super sonic worked in the comics, a deranged maniac with untold chaotic power
I have an old idea about a Sonic.ExE game where sonic being actually not a demon but something else. Perhaps something or someone we knew before. The red eyes. Someone that can be as strong and fast as sonic, except it is mostly psychotic, metallic. If you know what i mean

He thinks he's the real Sonic in his mind (Sonic Heroes and OVA) and the ruby could bend reality itself so theoretically he could like make himself look like him. It would also explain all the demonic powers too. plus he's rebelled against Eggman so killing him wouldn't be that far-fetched.

Friendly reminder that Sonic.exe used to be considered one of the best game-related creepypastas out there, and a major part of why it's now seen as a joke is because it's been imitated to the point that a lot of its elements are now seen as clichéd.
