Who Captured Otto Hightower? (House of The Dragon Season 2)

- The end of house of the dragon season 2 has revealed that Otto Hightower has been captured by someone. The season is over and we have no idea who did it. So lets take a look at some of the most likely options and see who we think it most likely to have captured Otto Hightower.
He’s in the Red Keep 100%. Grey Waste Tim pointed out the background of Otto’s cell matches the background of Blood after he was captured & questioned by Aegon. Most likely Larys took took him & left him for Rhaenyra. Given by how long his hair is, he never left the Red Keep. He’s been there the whole time.
We luv Grey Waste Tim an David lightbringer
I think I remember that in David's stream as in the book's when Rhaenyra an Daemon take Kingslanding Ottos head is the 1st to go
“And I thought it strange because Alicent said it was strange” perfectly sums up the writing for this season
😂😂😂
"And I think that most likely candidate... "
Is a weirwood tree
"... is probably one of the Reach houses who are loyal to Rhaenyra"
Oh... Yeah, that would make sense
the average viewer saw this and was like "wait wtf when did he get captured??"
I can't remember if he did get captured in F&B or not
@@Dani_1012He was captured with the fall of King’s Landing. Theories are that Daeron will rescue him and Otto and Alicent will vye for controlling Daeron. Like that hunt for Aegon scene in S1.
It would be interesting if Larys captured Otto almost immediately and he is captive deep in the Black Cells beneath the Red Keep. It could be the war keeps most people too busy to just wander the cells and find him, and anyone with a good reason to be down there is already loyal to Larys. The idea that Otto (and the sort of "spirit" of his scheming) never left the Red Keep, physically or metaphorically.
The Beesburys seem like the obvious culprit, which could just be proper setup in a story, OR that setup could be laying the foundation for a grander scheme by Larys. As master of whispers, he could basically "choose" where Otto supposedly is, and leverage that to more directly control the direction of the war. He may have even secreted Otto away anticipating SOME sort of coup by Aemond. Seeing a Green-split coming, he may have grabbed Otto for leverage or as like a hostage advisor to Aegon.
I would be satisfied with this being a hook to bring in more families from the reach for season 3, but I would LOVE that setup to fuel some intrigue by Larys and possibly up the ante on his (probable) warging abilities and more big-picture goals.
Imho it's the same dungeon as Larys took his 'volunteers' from to set Harrenhall ablaze. The samen dungeon Eddard Stark was kept in. It's King's Landing for sure.
There's only a couple things with any introduction.
Beesburys at the top
Tumbleton so he can be influential there
Larys, so he has anything to do next season
Yeah i think beesbury is the best possible option. Larys is a plausible one, but it makes most sense to be house beesbury
Whoever has Otto-the maester has to know. he sends/recieves ravens. Alicent is sending ravens to Oldtown and recieves no response? Not even a response to let her know that Otto isn't there? They don't even know he is missing, and they should at least know THAT. Her ravens are either not being sent at all, OR she is not receiving her responses. The OTHER other option is that Otto is being held in Oldtown. Whoever is getting Alicent's ravens already knows that otto is being held as a prisoner because they have him. So-no response to her ravens. The other OTHER other option is that ALL ravens are being shot down by someone...and they aren't since ravens are still being sent and received while this is happening-just not the Otto ones. SO most likely the KL maester is not sending Alicent's ravens/letters and so nobody knows Otto is missing yet. Maester Orwyle. Also this-Otto's cell is made of wood there-NOT stone. Is he on a ship perhaps?
No raven signal in Oldtown…
@alexmartin3143 exactly. IF anyone knew that Otto wasn't IN Oldtown..the word is gona be sent out. Alicent SHOULD know that her dad is missing. But she doesn't? Nobody knows why he sends NO word/response? THAT has to mean the letters/ravens are NEVER sent in the first place, yes? and THAT means...Orwyle knows, if not Larys as well.
I think It was Harrold Westerling.
Where has this channel been all my life
You forgot someone- the Death Eaters. They imprisoned him and he's being held captive in the dungeons of Malfoy Manner. Apparently he published some unflattering information in his magazine that displeased the dark lord. Nice video lol.
Oh yeah. Mr. Lovegood…
He's trapped in his underwear in Notting Hill
You raise the most compelling arguments for it being Beesbury from a writing and storytelling standpoint-I’d been set in Larys before this vid
Ser* Otto. Whatever else he is, the man is a knight and should be given his due. I typed that with Stannis' voice behind the words.
a knight? I though he was just rich. XD
If Otto is locked up in the Red Keep, no doubt it was Larys. I believe that being named Hand of the King is Larys' main ambition
I think it could be the beesburys and or the Tarlys one or both
It was Helaena. She likes putting things in cages. Bravo George.
While the Beesburys are certainly one of the options, I don't think that the timing actually works out with this option. The Hightower armies, while harried by various Reach dissenters, have been marching for a couple of months by the time we get a look at Tessarion in the finale, and Otto's lack of correspondence would seem to suggest he was captured relatively early on on his way to *Highgarden* (he told Alicent he would go to the Tyrells to shore things up there, before anything else).
Given the advance of the army, and Otto's stated intentions, the suggestions I've seen from a lot of folks that he is locked up at the Honeyholt don't line up, unless we are to believe that he was captured by the Bees near King's Landing, and then transported to the Honeyholt, *bypassing* the Hightower armies on the road. This also means that the Hightower army, which, having been marching for a few months (keep in mind that Gwayne and his forces were moseying along from Oldtown to King's Landing, and it took him 3 months to arrive; the Reach forces have been marching at least as long, but they aren't stopping at inns along the way, it is a dedicated march), would have to turn around and march back to home base in order to save Otto from the Beesburys, in such a case.
I think rather that the most likely option of all is actually House Caswell of Bitterbridge, whose lord Otto hanged at King's Landing in 1x09 after he attempted to flee the city. They made a point of establishing his loyalty to Rhaenyra on two occasions in series 1, first in 1x06 as Rhaenyra and Laenor brought infant Joffrey to meet Alicent, and subsequently in 1x08 when he was the guy who came to welcome Rhaenyra and her family to King's Landing when Otto failed to roll out a welcome wagon for the princess. These three separate scenes across three different episodes and six years demonstrate both the loyalty of Lord Caswell to Rhaenyra, and also multiple levels of disapproval regarding the Hightowers and the ways they have ruled during Viserys' convalescence. It so happens that Bitterbridge is also located conveniently located on the Roseroad as it enters the Reach, just past Tumbleton, and long before the road ever reaches Highgarden, Otto's stated destination.
This makes it a reasonable location of conflict that is on the path that Daeron and the Hightower army are heading towards, and reasonably expected to be within sight of in the near future. It doesn't require them to deviate from their course or turn back towards Oldtown to handle the situation before continuing back on their march for King's Landing---if anything, the revelation of Otto's imprisonment would prompt them to hasten their march forward for the Crownlands.
I think what we can expect from this is that the Battle of the Honeywine will be cut/combined with the later Battle of Bitterbridge. What was once the site for Daeron's revenge of the tearing apart of Maelor-the-missing, becomes Daeron's introduction to the audience as he attempts to free his grandfather, who I expect will not perish, but ultimately take on the role of Hobert Hightower in the Caltrops, successfully orchestrating the elimination of Hugh, and sacrificing himself in the poisoning of Ulf.
This is an excellent suggestion. The Beesbury suggestion doesn't convince me - it feels like tit-for-tat storytelling, and it doesn't make sense when you consider the importance of the Beesbury house: they would need to either be capable of orchestrating a kidnapping operation from afar despite being relatively unknown, or be able to catch a politically intelligent character like Otto off guard so close to the Hightower base of power. Much more believable that he is taken further afield by a house in a position to do so.
Justice to the Beesburies!
A bit out there, but I honestly think that the writers themselves have no idea (at the moment) who captured Otto.
This matches up with their trend of keeping certain storylines in limbo (Daeron not being mentioned at all in Season 1, Rhaena not taming Sheepstealer in the finale so they can backtrack their removal of Nettles, etc.) It can also explain why Rhys and the filming crew were not given details about this plotline, since the writers haven't figured it out yet.
I figure he went to the Triarchy and was betrayed by them. The lights and shadows sway during Otto's shot, as if on the inside of a ship, so him being in Sharako Lohar's ship makes the most sense
I feel like you overlooked the most important factor to consider here: whoever has him is keeping it secret for some reason. I agree it makes a lot of sense for the beesburys to capture him, but I don't see how it makes sense for them to keep it secret
It isn’t actually part of the show at all, GRRM has taken Rhys Ifans as a hostage in order to strong-arm the crew to keep things more lore-accurate from here on out.
George’ lord quibbles are things like the design of the dragon sigil though. This isn’t a GoT situation because F&B isn’t a reliable narrative source to begin with. The truth is supposed to be divergent from it.
Since we're not getting Maelor I think it's most likely the Caswells that captured him; the last we saw him was when Alicent asked him to reach out to the Tyrells, and Bitterbridge (the Caswells seat) is about halfway between KL and Highgarden. Lord Caswell was among those lords and ladies who were taken captive by Otto at the end of S1, and was killed for trying to escape the Red Keep.
This also makes complete sense when we consider that the writers have gone out of their way to glaze Rhaenyra and undercut the Greens every chance they get. Instead of Daeron sacking Bitterbridge due to his 3 year old nephew being torn to shreds by an angry mob, he's likely going to sack Bitterbridge due to the execution of Otto, a character that most of the audience dislikes. After all, Season 2 basically dropped Jaehaerys' murder after episode 3, so why should the writers approach be any different this time?
I would consider Larys before the Beesburys. If he was captured by the bees, surely someone would have known of it, word would have gotten back to Kings Landing eventually. I would think that Larys would be the more likely culprit, as he could have had Otto captured before he even left the castle, and secreted away to another location.
IDK, this reeks of Larys.
It’s Otto’s brother punishing him for failing. Only to be dragged out when requested by the king again
Michael forgot talk today but hope he talks tomorrow
So it’s presumably someone who wants leverage on the Greens but isn’t aligned with the Blacks (because if they were they would have sent word to Dragonstone - so not the Beesburys). Given the region he was passing through the Ironborn are very unlikely, but the Dornish are very plausible.
Well HBO probably won’t have budget for actors or cages or an eighth episode next season. So I think I can speak for us all when I say I’m glad we’ve hashed out the who dun it now.
My two silver stags goes to the Beesburys killer bee's 🐝 lol jk, ill say Larys
Your content is amazing. Get a NEW MIC bro! It’ll make your content that much better.
Have you looked anything into Berics resurrections? I recently reread asos and when Arya witnesses his death it is described how his blood soaks into the earth within this hollow hill which is a cave with weirwood roots in and around it. Maybe that is how he can be resurrected, not by Thoros but by old god blood magic or that Bran keeps bringing him back so Beria can fulfill his purpose.
I agree it makes sense for house Beezbury to have captured him. However, the cell he’s being held in looks like the cells beneath the red keep. It was pointed out on LMLs channel that the cell looks exactly like the cell that was directly behind Blood when he was being questioned by Larys. I went back and looked and it’s true, the cell looks the same. If he is in the cells beneath the red keep then Larys would have to be the culprit. But I have some issues with that. Why would he have taken Otto captive? He already got rid of him so why imprison him. And what was he gonna do with him. Larys is obviously counting on the greens coming out of this victorious. If they do and he has Otto in a cell that’s not going to go well for him. Why not just kill him? Holding him doesn’t seem to make much sense. If he ever gets free he’ll tell his family Larys captured and imprisoned him and that won’t go well for Larys. So it just doesn’t make much sense to me for Larys to have him. Beezbury having him makes more sense. So I guess we’ll just have to wonder for the next 2 freaking years.
The Tyrells, my guess. Or maybe Larys and his goons.
Imo, he never left Kings Landing...The bars shown look strikingly similar to the ones seen when Blood was shown in the red keep cell. Larys likely threw him into a black cell when he found out he was about to leave. I think the blacks will find him there as they imprison people after taking KL and everyone(especially Alicent) will be surprised to see him.
I like the Beesbury captive theory but Daeron and Co. can’t save Otto because he needs to be in kingslanding for the fall and his subsequent beheading. Mayhaps Beesburys ship him off to Rhaenyra when she takes KL?
Looks like the same cell as they had Blood in.
At first when Maester Orwyle say's to Alicent that the Reach an house Beesberry rising up against the Hightowers so when i saw him in a cell i did think them but then thought Aemond asked his to Fetch Otto but we don't gear anything else about Otto as in the book's when Rhaenyra an Daemon take Kingslanding Ottos head is the 1st to go by daemon so Beesbury or larrys
It couldn't happen to a nicer guy lol
Probably the beesburys hopefully the Tyrells and we get a pov into highgarden
Where is ol' Harry Westerling? Did he team up with the Beesbury fam to capture Otto? Buzz buzz
In ur moon and heart tree video u didn't mention it's theorized Bran's consciousness went to the moon during his coma
Hence the view, feeling like he was thousands of miles away, and the three dire wolves howling at the moon
I suspect the Beesburys (or some Reach house) the most. I feel like those occasional lines on the Council about turmoil in the Reach need to go somewhere. I also think I can completely write off the Mysaria suspicion, I think she has enough Hightower hatred that she would have just had Otto killed if given the opportunity.Mysaria would not have captured Otto unless it was an explicit request from Rhaenyra to capture him, I think we would have gotten a scene if there was such a request from Rhaenyra.
Revenge of the BEEEEES!
I think that if a reach house had him it would be known and book readers wouldn’t have been so surprised. I also think if it was anyone high ranking in the black faction we would have seen it on screen when the Queen found out. The clubfoot is (in my opinion) the best option because I know he is shady as fuck and if things go wrong for him in kings landing (or wherever he takes the false king) having Otto would be like having a get out of jail free card with either faction if he were to change alliances or need to get himself out of trouble. We also know he likes dungeons haha
Why are we even arguing about this, it's obviously the citadel and the maesters
house beesbury for sure. They are going to use the narrative to dive in to the house. similar to what happened with Jamie and the boltons
Have a question, do you think bran can warg into any person he wants, and if so would he have to break their mind by warging into them through the past like presented with hodor? I know that's not book cannon but I'm interested what your perspective is
its larry.
Triarchy or, less likely, Greyjoys?
Its larys.
s2 was soo bad the writers probably don't even know who captured him.
Dalton Greyjoy lol
Bloodraven 😂😂
When in doubt...
@@thing_under_the_stairs IDG 😍
Sorry-sidenote-IF the Beesburys had Otto, they would treat him honorably in that they would make demands for his ransom. Otto is no longer hand-he is basically fired and has no real power now beyond his name/family. Beesbury would make demands, yes? As of now, nobody even knows Otto is missing. This is important-someone is keeping it a secret that otto is even missing. Keeping Otto missing serves no purpose to thee Beesburys. It does for Larys...but also Corlys. What purpose is served by keeping Otto a prisoner AND a secret prisoner at that? No ransom. No execution. No charges/trial. Secret Prisoner. Why is keeping Otto prisoner in secret important?
I thought otto was in the black cells tbh
W
Or the maesters as part of a dragon killing plot.
Or, knowing these writers, it’s the Greyjoys so they could get them in the show, but they’re all of Asian descent and nonbinary for whatever reason.
Why is your mic so bad lately?
I did it.
Larys did.
You're 3/4 of the way there Michael.
Otto is definitely being held in the Reach, but I'm pretty sure the Beesburys along with the other two suspects you've listed would be more likely to kill Otto than capture him if they got their hands on him. But there is another faction that might see benefits in holding on to Otto until they could be sure which way the war would unfold.
The Tyrells, the house best known in Westeros for hedging their bets. Remember, Alicent advised Otto to head to Highgarden before Old Town, to secure the loyalties of the Tyrells. Given their usual MO it makes sense the Tyrells would balk at being asked to take sides in a war between dragonlords with neither side having a clear advantage.
But they couldn't simply refuse. If word got back to Kingslanding Highgarden might soon be visited by Vhaegar. And if they declared for Aegon and he lost, they'd have to worry about the wrath of Cyrax or Caraxes.
But they wouldn't dare kill Otto either, for similar reasons.
The safest play would be to put Otto on ice and lay low until one side won the war or gained a clear advantage.
If the Blacks win, they could take credit for capturing a traitor.
If the Greens win, they could hold Otto as a hostage against their own safety, or quietly dispose of him and claim that he never reached Highgarden, or possibly even convince Otto to go along with the story that they sheltered him from his enemies in the Reach until they could get him safely to Old Town.
And as for the claims that Otto must be in the Red Keep because the dungeon Otto is in looks like the dungeons of the Red Keep, that's probably because it's the same set. Remember this is an expensive TV production. They have to save money where they can. Why build a whole new set for a reveal shot that lasts less than 30 seconds?
I hope mysaria has him but its prolly larys
BEES
It will have been on of the greens because if it was one of the blacks someone would have said something.
Audio is ass (great video)
BEESBURY beware our sting 🐝🐝🐝🐝🍯🍯🍯
In the black cells😂😂😂
Im writing this before the bideo starts. I swear if you blame Bloodraven, I'm unsubscribing.
Bzzzzz bzzzz
