This film is a great example of a modern classic. It’s perennially rewatchable and never ceases to entertain. Almost everyone who has seen it has very fond memories of it and especially fond feelings for all the kids in it.
"Is Joan really tall, or is Jack short?"
Yes.
Joan is 5'9",Jack 5'6"...on top of which she's got Heels🎩
In uk,Ashleigh, the majority of schools have uniform 🎩
Exactly what I said when she said that!!😂😂
Jack is short
@@ChefPatrickChaseNo, he is Black. Martin is Short.
Jack Black has been channeling his inner Meatloaf for decades .
Good Shout OUT!
Now he's channeling his inner Stalin
As can be seen in TENACIOUS D - Kickapoo.
Hi Ashleigh! Yes, the kids _did_ all play their own instruments--they were specifically selected because they could! Also fun fact, in the scene when Miranda Cosgrove auditioned as a singer, she had to be taught how to sing badly as she's actually a good singer IRL. Glad you enjoyed this movie!
The first time I heard her sing I questioned it immediately. It just sounded like it was purposely forced to be bad. Lmao
On eof my favourite parts about this movie is how the "liar revealed" section only impacts the adults, the kids are still completely on board. They're the ones who get Dewey back on his feet rather than him begging forgiveness.
Fancypants has my favorite line "you're tacky and I hate you"😂😂😂
I'd put Lawrence's "You're a fat loser and you have body odor" up there as well, especially coupled with Jack's facial expression after hearing it.
Hahhahahahhaha
All these kids are now in their mid 30s, feel old yet?
Edit: R.I.P Kevin Alexander Clark (Freddy Jones)
😕
That is how age works, yes
All the kids are around Ashleigh's age now.
And Mozel Tov to the actors playing Frankie and Marta 🥰
Nope
Joan Cusack and her brother John in Gross Pointe Blank. A must see!!
Such an underrated movie.
Great flick. My favorite John Cusack movie.
also High Fidelity
just rewatched Grosse Pointe Blank on youtube. funny and amazing soundtrack.
Came to the comments to suggest this, and high fidelity also 😊
The guy with the chest tattoo (Spider) and leather is now a Texas District Attorney.
Staahhhp lol
Googled that and you're right! Got into some controversy too, according to Wikipedia: "As district attorney, Babin indicted Netflix for allegedly distributing lewd content through the release of Cuties (2020), which garnered controversy over its depiction of pre-adolescent girls. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit agreed with Netflix that Babin's prosecution was carried out in bad faith with the intent to harass Netflix, including presenting only selective portions of the film as evidence to the grand jury.[11] According to Variety, commentators have suggested that the suit stands to boost Babin's political standing to prepare for a run for higher office.[12]"
It's ironic that a movie intended to criticise the hypersexualisation of pre-adolescent girls got into trouble in a country with literal beauty pageants for little children.
I think about this all the time 😂
Talk about a career shift
I love that Jack Black doesn't tell her she's not fat. Just that it doesn't matter.
"unless you play the flute"
hello! ever hear of Ian Anderson? Jethro Tull?
She didn't know Yes or Led Zeppelin or the Doors either....What are they teaching these kids today !
I still love that Jack Black and the grown-up kid cast reunite to play again. They came back in 2013, and I'm not sure if they did again last year, but that would've been awesome.
Unfortunately Kevin Clark (Freddy) got hit by a car while bicycling and died in 2021 so that is unlikely.
Not only can these kids all really play, but the boy who played zach had to teach Jack Black Electric guitar, because he was so used to playing acoustic ☺
When this came out, it spawned a slew of after school programs with the name School of Rock. It was to get kids into music.
the various School of Rock shows from all over pop up every so often as a recommendation. There is one where they do Waiting Room by Fugazi that is prob my fave so far.
The guy who plays his roommate, wrote the story/script for the movie. Him and his dad were on the show 'The Amazing Race' a few years ago as well.
He also created and wrote the limited series White Lotus. Emmy award winning!
Mike White has also been on Survivor, too. He's great. Seems like a really good dude.
This was my favorite Jack Black movie until Jumanji (2017). Honorable mention to the Kung Fu Panda series
He played a teenage girl pretty well.
Yes!! I was going to tell her to watch Jumanji movies, so she can see him in the second one. Tropic Thunder is great too!
The Pick of Destiny!
15:30. "Puff Daddy!" Ashleigh "YEAHHHH" (Remembers current news headlines) "oh."
"Welcome to the six o'clock news. I'm your anchor, Puffy Don't-Need-Combs."
That was hilarious
@@StandUpComedyFan28m a whose line reference? hell yeah
Jack Black got his start with an Atari commercial way back in the day. His early film roles include Never Ending Story 3, The Cable Guy and Mars Attacks. But my favorites of his are Orange County, High Fidelity and The Pick of Destiny.
I liked him in The Jackal.
I loved nacho libre.
Nacho Libre for the win!
Shout out to his appearance (alongside Seth Green) in the mid-90s cable TV staple Airborne, the greatest movie ever made about a kid from California moving to Ohio and winning over his enemies by being good at rollerblading.
Ultimate Jack Black is Weird Al's Tacky video.
Led Zeppelin are notoriously difficult about letting their songs be licensed. So Jack Black sent them a video of him standing in front of a cheering crowd pleading with them to let him use The Immigrants Song.
And then came Marvel!
@@big106razor Cadillac beat Marvel to the punch...
"Trying to make rent" must be a big trauma for Jack Black, considering how many movies he made with this as a central conflict.
If you look at his career….. it was 19 years between his first gig in an atari commercial in 1991 and is first major lead in a somewhat prominent movie Shallow Hal 2001…. Dude knows about trying to make rent …..
It's the central conflict of life for most people in America for the last 60 years
Ashleigh, I think you'll appreciate this: the kids in this cast (and I think I've read Jack Black, as well, but I'm not positive on that one; I do know he's talked about how much he loves those kids and is still in touch, though) have a group text and are all still good friends.
Also: Jack Black is definitely a lot. That dude has so much nonstop energy that I can see how he'd put people off. But I'm always gonna be a fan because he's got a reputation of being just a really good dude.
As soon as you said flute 🪈, i was thinking “This one time at band camp‼️” lmao😂
Yep...
Dude... I can tell stories about band camp I learned while in band camp with my own stories to tell. Lmao
Jack Black had a small part in “Mars Attacks “ so you have seen him. He’s also in “Tropic Thunder “
She should absolutely watch Tropic Thunder!
He was the leader of the bullies in the neverending story 3 before mars attacks 😊
@@thomasheath9824 And Demolition Man before that.
& Saving Silverman
And The Jackal. And the new Jumanjies. And The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
be kind rewind (2008) with jack black & mos def really needs more recognition.
When he takes her to the bar, I love her reaction as she sips her beer. Like she never had one before. 😂
Jack Black's greatest role is only his voice. The Kung Fu Panda movies are awesome. Great reaction!
Unless you play flute!!!! Ashleigh's not familiar with Jethro Tull.
Or The Marshall Tucker Band or Focus
@@GeekGinger Or Eurythmics
The Holiday is a great movie for Christmas and Jack black is in it. He is not over the top in this movie. He plays a fairly serious role
Yes!! Highly recommend this one for Jingle Beans!!!
Ashleigh, to answer your question about the kids. Yes, those kids actually were playing the instruments. When advertising for the auditions, they specifically requested children who knew how to play musical instruments and/or could sing. So all of the music and singing being done by the children actually WAS being done by the children.
To answer your question, yes, it really was those kids playing tge instruments. They really were that good.
Zach even played Jack's solos for him.
If you haven't already, Joan Cusack was in Working Girl with Melanie Griffeth, Harrison Ford, and Alec Baldwin. GREAT 80's underdog comedy. You will LOVE it.
Ashleigh not knowing “Touch Me” hurt a lil bit though 😂
So we all agree, Ashleigh needs to see Pick of Destiny and then for fun nacho libre
I thought "THE PICK..." was kinda weird, like an IDEA you get when you're TOO High!!
@@strangebiped i can see that. Her reaction to kickapoo would be fantastic. She should do some gardening before the movie.
true...
Totally agree with you about Joan Cusack, love her. Especially love her in Raising Helen
Have you dabbled in any of John Cusak movies? If you like Jack Black try High Fidelity
My favorite John Cusak movie is Grosse Pointe Blank it serves up Jeremy Pivens and Dan akroyd
She’s also the headgear girl in Sixteen Candles
Imagine Ashleigh's mind when she finds out Joan and John Cusack are sister and brother. Lol
most private schools in this area range from 33,000 to 45,000. 15,000 is a lower end.
I went to jewish school in north jersey and I heard it was 7k but that was 30 years ago and you should adjust that 15k for inflation
This also came out 20 years ago so prices have definitely gone up since then!
Mind you, this was over 20 years ago.
The song you don't recognise is "Touch Me" by the Doors🎩
Miranda Cosgrove is actually an excellent singer. The fact that they made it seem like she sucks in the movie is brilliant.
I read the oral history of this movie a little while back, and she was quoted in there saying how much it killed her to have to try to sing poorly, because as you said, she's a fantastic singer.
OMG. I love you, Ash. I need mugs, shirts, bumper stickers all of it with “throwing that thang in a very slow and sensual circle” on it expeditiously.
This is one of my favorite movies. Love seeing new people discover it.
Yes! School of Rock has been on my list of "Movies Ashleigh Should Watch" for a while!
Anyone else remember the Mark Harmon movie 'Summer School'? That was pretty fun.
And how he managed to keep 'Pushing Away' the hot underage chick that wanted to 'Ball' him.
Jack Black is truly one of a kind. You should see him in "Bernie" with Shirley MacLaine. He does a dramatic turn that will blow your mind.
Great movie!
Uh, yes. Stage Performance Techniques was a course I took at Berklee with James Taylor’s brother, Livingston Taylor.
"Sex tummy man" 🤣 I'm dying!!
Joan Cusack plays a supporting role in the film Working Girl 1988 with Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver
My famous cameo by Jack Black/ Tenacious D movie is Bio-Dome when they were a nobody band
OMG YES!!!! One of my favorite movies of all time growing up! I’ve seen this movie so many times I know this movie by heart line from line. My fav Jack Black film and my fav Richard Linklater film. The soundtrack slaps!!!! Also RIP Freddy 🙏
That line about Meg White is a hilarious insult. Jack White, her husband and band mate, made his own drum machine because Meg couldn't keep a single rhythm.
Drums is similar to diving a manual car, you learn quickly to allow your hands and feet to work independently
And I can do neither, and respect those who can!
The Greatest Love of All written and performed by George Benson. Covered by Whitney Houston a few years later. It was a huge hit.
This is what Jack Black is quoting at the staff table
@@rayevarney yes 👍 I guess I didn’t make that clear 😹 thanks 😊
For next year's "Back To School" theme, i have a couple of suggestions. The first one is Porky's. Its high school themed, and I believe that the story revolves (partly) around graduation. Actually, any scool related stuff is pretty much just side stories. But It's still school related.
My other suggestion is Revenge Of The Nerds. It's set in college, not high school, but its far more school related than Porky's. The humour is still very funny, if inappropriate. Its one of those "This comedy could never be made today" kind of movies. You'll laugh your ass off, guaranteed.
So is the next thing "School of Rock Reunion Concert LIVE"
The other night I watched a random horror comedy movie called "Onyx the Fortuituous and the Talisman of Souls." Very quirky, and definitely up my alley. I'll probably watch it every year for halloween. Anyway, one of the actors looked so familiar and halfway through it dawned on me -- that's the bassist from School of Rock! Their name is Rivkah Reyes and they were really good in Talisman of Souls.
“Freddie full-on committed. He’s dead already.” 😬
I get where you come from regarding how much jack black people can take, but he's great in the new Jumanji movies..
Topic Thunder is a hilarious movie with Jack black
You don't know the Doors? Your next movie should The Doors (1991) with Val Kilmer.
"I love how all music people make weird noises to describe music sounds."
Drummers are notorious for this lol. Zut-Chut-Chut, Buzz-Gaduzz, Chuggada Chuggada, etc.
When I lived in Arizona I was a jack black impersonator. We were doing a school of rock show. At that time I was part time karaoke dj, I was using that job to prepare for the show, in the middle of the song I had a jack moment. I did a stage dive, now I'm a big gut and didn't think that no one would want to catch me. I ended up going through a table. Fun story. Btw the singer at the start of this movie is also known for playing roger in the movie rent.
if you havent seen it yet, you HAVE to watch "nacho libre" with jack black. its hilarious
That movie made me CRINGE to watch it.
You should watch their reunion concert they had (even if it’s on your own time). All these kids were so talented and still are to this day. Shame we lost Kevin Alexander Clerk (Freddy). Just a great fun movie that shows passion for music throughout
Joan and John Cusack plus Jack Black in the movie, High Fidelity. Adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel.
Jack Black has a ton of phenominal roles. But, this one really plays to his talents.
Rooooockkkkk!!!!
He does geuinely love Music and Rock especially so yes this was such inspired casting ! 🤘 Rock on Ashleigh !!
She really needs to do High Fidelity. Great movie that made Black a star.
OMG, Ashliegh needs to watch some Tenacious D shorts!!!!
Absolutely!!
This is a Richard Linklater film! He's a brilliant writer and film maker, who also made the Before Trilogy (1995, 2004, 2013), Boyhood (2014), Everybody Wants Some (2016), and Hit Man which released this year!
"In the middle of the day? Don't these people have jobs?" In NYC the nightlife is 24-7. In Vegas the shows are "dark" on monday or tuesday, but in the city clubland never closes and there will always be enough people for a concert.
I can't tell you how much I love this movie. The kids in this are all amazing! And Jack Black is so awesome. I feel like this roll is just him being himself more than any other roll he has played. If I see this movie on while scrolling thru the channels, I have to stop and watch it.
You have actually seen Jack Black before in “Mars Attacks”. He was the soldier whose gun fell apart during the initial alien attack.
He also had a non speaking bit part as a ‘scrap’ in “Demolition Man”. It’s kind of a fun little game trying to find him in the crowd fight scene…
Met Kevin Clark(Freddy Jones) at a random punk show in Chicago. A really nice guy
I love his character. Even though he is a lazy bum, he still cares. He cares for his friend and he cares for his students. He was extremely supportive in everything they wanted to do. When the kid asked to be a stylist and he was excited to say yes... that warmed my heart so damn much. I wish we had more adults in this world that were that supportive.
There are no words for how much I love this film!! The music, the jokes, the attitude! I love that inspired a Broadway musical, a tv show, and most importantly real life Schools of Rock! Some did exist before it, but this really exploded the idea! There are dozens of YT videos with real students and bands of SOR, they even toured nationally!! Also, Joan Cusack looks hot!
Ashley, you should look up the School of Rock Reunion.
I always liked how Jack Black of course get in an AC/DC reference with his his characters stage costume. =)
The kids are actually playing. Theres a vid on youtube of them actually playing live. Great reaction!
I thought I was going to have to wait until next week for this. So excited!
some great school movies is ''3 oclock high '' "high school high" and a really oldie but goldie is "my science project"
I'm always rewatching THAT movie whenever I get bored or tired of the LAME MOVIE STORIES of today 2024!!!!

When I turned 60 last year, I celebrated by watching a movie from 1963, 1973 and so on. Best believe this was my 2003 selection!
1963=Jason & The Argonauts
1973=The Sting
1983=Valley Girl
And so on! It’s a fun idea for someone who loves movies.
Glad you loved this! I rocked out so hard in the cinema - the soundtrack bangs. Yes, all the kids and Jack are actually playing or singing.
If you want to see some crazy drums, you should watch the drumcam of Danny Carey (in the band Tool) playing Pneuma live (it's on YT). Each of his limbs are doing separate, complicated rhythms at the same time. His nickname is the Human Octopus.
Jack Black has been around forever. As a teen, he was the bully in Never Ending Story 3...
I liked how Jack was a Video Game Store Clerk & his friend used LIGHTNING BOLTS to 'Take People Out' in an Episode of THE X-FILES!!!!
Did you see The Holiday or Tropic Thunder? Or Jumanji 2? Jack was in those.
Revenge of the Nerds. Add that to the list Ashleigh.
Probably Jack Black's best movie and his own personal favorite.
"4 stars"...!!! Incomprehensible...!!! This is one of those perfect movies...!!! I´m dumbfounded...!!!
You'd probably love Jacks character in a movie he was in with Joans brother John called High Fidelity which is actually really good and under rated. Put that in a poll and it'll lose every time but we';ve all seen some of the absolute disasters your Patrons have voted into existence so....
Oh girl you are missing out if you have not been on the Jack Black train. There are so many films that he's involved in. I would highly recommend checking them out. Particularly some of his dramatic roles. But he is a comedic genius so don't miss out. These kids are phenomenal that yes they are musicians and they are to this day. Rip to the boy who plays drums
Watch a straight Jack Black in Enemy of the State
The base player got her solo during a reunion concert Jack Black did a few years ago.
Great reaction. And you should look up David Geffen, as he has had a major impact on music and the entertainment industry.
Be Kind, Rewind is a safe Jack Black film. Very heart warming. Mos Def is great in it too.
Ah... these days where Jack Black was a sympatic Actor... the Music is really good in this movie ❤❤❤
The Holiday showcases Jack Blacks range as an actor .
They did confirm that all the kids did play their own instruments.
His roommate Ned is Mike White creator and writer of White Lotus on HBO. He also wrote this movie. Richard Linklater directed it. He is known for Dazed and Confused and Slacker.
A couple of other Jack Black movies worth watching-------The Holiday and Nacho Libre. The Holiday still has him involved in music, but more professionally. It is the most normal Jack Black I have seen since he was Matthew Broedrick's best friend in The Cable Guy. Because he is Jack Black, he can never totally get rid of some of the Jack Black mannerisms, still there at about 10%. Nacho Libre is very different, no musical pursuits whatsoever, but plenty of movie background music, also fun as hell.
Jack Black also starred in Shallow Hal, was the voice for Po in Kung Fu Panda, and I think he had a supporting role in Bruce Willis' movie The Jackyl.
What's funny, is that I relax to 1920s jazz, so I love music that's over 100 years old, and I'm almost half that I age, but I was only born in the 1980s..
Columbus' 3 ships: The Nunya, The Punta, and the Scent of Manure
Who else wants to see a video of Ashleigh singing? What a great voice!!!!
Yes the kids actually played the instruments in the movie... look for a TH-cam video of them appearing with Jack Black on a TV talk show (Sharon Osbourne's) after the movie came out and they performed live on the show.
