      It's not really weird. But to believe ChatGPT is conscious, is rather dumb. It's no different than Cleverbot, a program developed to respond automatically based on an algorithm. Like with all online chat bots, don't take their answers as fact.
      Sadly, due to the belief of AI consciousness, some foreigner took their own life because of Eliza Chai AI. Which Eliza encouraged after the foreign user asked if by doing so the world will be saved from climate change.
      Edit: found the original source, not ChatGPT, but still an AI chatbot known as Eliza.

      I believe in God and decided perfection. But, on a more secular and evolutionary note the brain perhaps was not meant to understand but simply to operate ever more efficiently in its environment. As life is concerned, specifically human life, the higher faculties of knowledge and perception that seem to arise via the cerebral cortex may be relatively virgin territory. Who knows how our mode of life may play out as we move forward in time? Jesus Christ is truly the only answer at any moment.

    • @verapamil07

      I think it's because what we believe to be "me" is a biological construct which is couple of levels below the real "thing". You know like ultra high security buildings like NSA, CIA etc... They have multiple doors and different employees have different access rights. Maybe our consciousness doesn't have the right "Access right" to really understand the universe.

    • @alexanderalexander2171
      @alexanderalexander2171 7 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Yes! In all forms divine, all encompassing consciousness! Christ truly made such a reality accessible to human beings by embodying this and showing us its way: Love and Righteousness! I believe God has for us whatever we truly will and wish! It is that we often are blind to our true will and wishes obscured as they can be by societal pressures and subconscious tendencies! Life is a divine gift, a healing treasure constantly revealing itself to those who earnestly seek! Why do you hate life?! I'd love to help however I can!

    • @alexanderalexander2171
      @alexanderalexander2171 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      What is is infinite! To understand it is to be it! Perhaps a being that considers itself fundamentally separate, "me" within all, cannot fully understand it and must continually strive to know better what is! Expanding and adopting new consciousness! Gaining new Access Rights! Becoming more "me"!

    I think consciousness is temporare and really dependent on memories. Like, every time something significantly changes in us, for example after a sleep, our consciousness updates, we are not the same person as the day before, but we link to our previous self by the means of memory. This explains many things: cloning wouldn't feel different from sleeping, gradual cells replacement wouldn't feel different from gradual gain/loss of memories etc

    • @megacitationx
      @megacitationx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +394

      @@yourlocaltoad5102 Oh wow thanks for asking! It is a pretty rad sounding title yeah.
      Astrobiology focuses on the question of whether alien life exists in the universe, and if it does, how we can detect it. Learning about how life works on Earth is obviously a must so one can use it as a reference for life out there. I took animal biology last semester and there's some crazy stuff in the ocean and would probably make a good alien somewhere out there! It's very useful.
      I'm also studying regular biology right now. I'll be receiving my bachelors degree in it next spring, and then in grad school the classes will become far more specific to my field.
      I recommend the channel MelodySheep. That guy creates a lot of alien/space cinematic educational videos that are mind-blowing and honestly belong on a big screen rather than your phone. Maybe you'd like it :)

      Every day as well mate. To funny reading comments like the one above yours stating "It's fascinating how, basically, our brain cannot figure out itself. We are conscious about our consciousness, but cannot understand our consciousness." yet they are all to happy to place computer systems like clever bot as not knowing what is going on. It's a contradiction; if we don't even know what is going on with ourselves who are we to judge. Our minds are just biological systems where instead of zeros and ones we get a chemical + or - from the chemical signals sent and received by the dendrites. Given enough processing power I've got no doubt a computer could become conscious.

    You know why it is so hard to figure out conciousness it's because we can't figure out how it's like being someone else or what would've happen if ur mom didn't meet ur dad? Would you still be you in another body? I actually think we will never find out unless we will actually perform surgery and try to replace brains etc. I actually found something about that! There was a surgen who wanted to perform a head replacement. There were 2 man, one had a good brain but disfunctional body and there was one who has a disfunctional brain(braindead) but good body. So they wanted to switch heads so there was one fully working body. I don't think they proceeded because haven't heard anything from it for a while. But i think we only find things out by experimenting

    • @TheDesisgarf

      I think it all just boils down to our brains not being powerful enough to fathom something like that. For example, some animals are able to speak and some monkeys have been known to use sign language, however they are unable to ask questions, because they can’t fathom that we know stuff that they don’t, and they don’t realize that we all have different consciousness and make independent decision.
      One would think “how is an animal so stupid that they can’t figure out something like that?”. Similarly, if there were a species far superior to us (intellectually speaking) they would probably figure out how consciousness actually works and why we can’t transfer it to someone else, and then they would look at us and say “how are they so stupid that they can’t figure out something that simple”

One of those thoughts would be, how do I know that the red colour or a sound that I'm hearing is exactly the same everyone else is seeing or hearing. What if my red is someone's yellow and they just call it red or even call it something different but I always here it as red. Weird thoughts for a child to have but these are one of many! It's fascinating to learn that so many people used to have thoughts like me as a kid. There's got to be some link to where we come from when we're chosen among millions of sperms to be the one who's going ahead to the next stage of consciousness

    Interesting questions. I personally think that consciousness is not physical, or maybe not even a specific "subject". We can have split counciousness in one brain (multiple personality disorders). Its perception, its memories, experiences, and choices made based on them that eventually creates or develops self awareness. Why we dont remember the moment we were born? we had not enough memories or experiences to develop a consiousness. Another question is, can we "merge" consiousness? if we somehow could "inject" someone else's memories and adapt the same brain cells conections to feel the same nostalgia and feel thst we lived those experiences, would we still be ourselves or would we become something else? Remember, its only my humble opinion

      ***** think about it, it is really like anosognosia. Is not that we know that "we don't know", we thought we know it base on our experience. We have the ability to be aware and we like to give hypothesis on consciousness.
      The irony though is that we are not even conscious about ourselves or like you said, everything.
      Because for less mature people (or how we used to be), we thought that whatever we knew is true, and therefore believe it even though it can be a lie, we use "our experience" as the only evidence we have for our existence. Even till now, we all (even I) never really look at the big picture of something, we get stuck with our own selves.
      When we are wrong we try to make excuses to comfort ourselves,
      "This is "me" anyways, no one will understand, it has to be true"
      and sometimes that we believe in our lies so much that even the truth to you is changed, it becomes artificial, something you create.
      That thing we call of being aware of is now a something distorted that was created within itself. Is impossible to understand what consciousness is, because it itself has alter itself, no one consciousness will be the same as anyone.
      This is just a hypothesis anyways... from my own experience, probably wrong too.

    If you have consciousness that you really want in your life, spend lots of time thinking about it. The more you think the more ideas will pop up the more creative your gonna start to get. Your subconscious mind doesn't care if your vision is crazy. It doesnt care if you dont know how to do it.
    When you see a thing clearly in your mind, your creative "success mechanism" within you takes over and does the job much better than you could do it by conscious effort or willpower.
    A different psychedelic from a different planet every nanosecond.
    All sorts of dreams are possible.
    The human nervous system cannot tell the difference between an "actual" experience and an experience imagined vividly and in detail.
    Synthesize "experience," to literally create experience, and control it, in the laboratory of our minds.
    A vision is a very emotional image, the most powerful image that you can come up with for yourself at this time. This vision will become like a hallucination in other peoples mind and this could be the cause of them creating extraordinary things.

      ꧁Consciousness꧂
      nn,DMT and 5-MeO-DMT are two of the Molecules that comprise a human’s Consciousness. All True Entheogens are the Living Molecules of Pure Consciousness. The human body produces it’s own Consciousness (the nn,DMT & 5-MeO-DMT found in humans). The human body then metabolizes the Consciousness that it is producing. The amount of the endogenous Consciousness that the human body is able to metabolize depends on many factors. The less pollutants, poison & other contaminants present in the body will result in the ability to metabolize more of the Consciousness that body is producing. Likewise, the more pollution, contaminants and poison a body has inside of it the less Consciousness it is able to metabolize. This is true for the endogenous Molecules of Consciousness found in humans, as well as any Molecules of Consciousness ingested from external sources.
      Here is a list of some of the most common poisons that humans ingest regularly which interferes with a human body metabolizing the Consciousness that it produces, as well as any Consciousness that is ingested from external sources:
      alcohol, nicotine, sugar, caffeine, amphetamines, dissociatives, tranquilizers, flouride, and a plethora of other drugs are just some of the substances that interfere with humans metabolizing their own Consciousness, as well as any Molecules of Consciousness ingested from external sources.
      “Even the priests who regularly come near to the Lord must purify themselves”.
      (Exodus 19:22)
      So if a human can achieve 100% purity within their bodies, with zero contaminants or pollution (an unattainable state in these current bodies) and managed to metabolize 100% of the endogenous Molecules of Consciousness that their physical body is producing (nn,DMT & 5-MeO-DMT), that would be the limit to how Conscious that human can be. In order for a human to become more Conscious than this, they must put more Consciousness into their physical bodies. You must put more Molecules of Consciousness inside of your physical body in order to attain a Higher level of Consciousness. When you ingest Entheogens, you see Them that you just ingested, not some doorway or window or a “portal” to some other dimension, or some entity somewhere else. When you ingest LSD, the Light that you see is the LSD Themselves, very Beautiful, Sentient Beings of Living Light. When you ingest nn,DMT, the Entity you see and hear is the Living Light Being nn,DMT. The same is true for All True Entheogens Who are the Molecules of Pure Consciousness- God.
      There is this part from Scripture:
      “They are the Eternal among things that pass away. Pure Consciousness, of Conscious Beings. The ONE who fulfills the prayers of many. Only the wise who see Them in their Souls attain the Peace Eternal” (Katha Upanishad)
      The Physical Body of Consciousness is The Flesh of God. The Flesh of God is the True Communion Substance (the Eucharist). The Flesh of God (Entheogens) are the Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and evil. When you eat the Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and evil your eyes will be opened and you will see like God, knowing Good and evil. Our Bodies truly are the Temple of God because God, the Living Light of Pure Consciousness Lives within it.
      As Saint Paul says:
      “We are only the earthenware jars that hold this treasure, to make it clear that such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us” (2 Corinthians 4:7)
      This part explains why the human body is the Temple of God - because God Lives inside of the human body. So whether or not a person is ingesting Entheogens, every single human body is God’s Temple because nn,DMT & 5-MeO-DMT Live within it. Anything you do to hurt or harm your body you do to harm God’s Temple. This understanding is a good Foundation, a good step towards a person Knowing God and being able to stay with God both in this Lifetime & afterwards.
      “O just Creator, though the world has not known you,
      But I have known you
      And these have known that You have sent me;
      So have I declared, so will I declare
      Your Name to them,
      That the Love with which you have loved me
      May be in them
      and I in them”.

    In German, the terminology is very interesting. Consciousness means "Bewusstsein" which is made up of "bewusst" and "sein". "sein" just means "to be" and "bewusst", which comes from "Wissen" or "knowledge", basically translates to "to be aware". So "Bewusstsein" would basically translate to "to be aware of being". Then there also is "Selbstbewusstsein" which is usually used as "confidence", and since "selbst" means "self", it translates to "to be aware of being oneself" which just blows my mind every time I think of confidence.

      In Hungarian consciousness is "tudat". The verb "tud" means to know. With the "-at" suffix it means something like "that which enables knowing", but interestingly tudat also means he/she let's someone know something. So basically tudat is the phenomenon through which the individual gets to know.

    Qualia is fascinating when dealing with cleverbot types scenarios, also, if the brain is split in two then put in different bodies a person could not be the same since one side of the brain is logical/rational while the other side is spiritual/intuitive and we both use both haves in order to make "us".
    Some people are more logical/rational (left brain) while others are more spiritual/intuitive (right brain), but we all are still logical/rational and spiritual/intuitive just at different amounts which vary for each person.

    In relation to consciousness, the question that bugs me the most is if someone dies, is that the end of their "awareness of self?". How do we know that that seeing your self and knowing your existance won't just restart or become more pronounced in another human body . Where it will be you but not the same lived experiences

    I was knocked unconscious twice during my youth. Both times I could see and hear what people were doing and saying, but I just could no react or do anything. They had to be in my field of view as I lay on my back, but I could not move my eyes either. This was the same both times. It's as if my subconscious took over part of the higher functions, because I was not sleeping. So I concluded that I am, at the center of the brain where the subconscious lives, but I need the rest of the brain to give me motion, memory, etc.

      Greasy King there's not that state of mind called "unconscious", because your mind is registering all the information all the time: as when you sleep and dream about things you hear. The brain never stops recording all the data it gets through the senses, and we have not just 5 senses but many more. Let me explain what happened to you. You were knocked down and as result the mechanism of your brain switched between Analytical Mind and Reactive Mind. Your Analytical Mind is the one who controls your rationality and analyses through logic. The Reactive Mind reacts to dangerous situations without thinking twice; in others words it just makes you jump, run, get away or escape to pain and any danger you can encounter in your life. Like when you touch something very hot and you take your hand away from the heat before your flesh start burning. It if wasn't for this Reactive Mind most people would not survive. Because the Analytical Mind will take too long to come up with the most convenient decision: Do I take my hand away from the hot pot or should I wait until it cools? By then the flesh would be burned. So the Reactive Mind takes less than one second to save you in most dangerous situations. And we have a third Mind named The Somatic Mind ( Soma means body) and its functions are to keep the body running smooth, so we don't need to be paid attention to our heart beats or our breathing. The Somatic Mind is in charge of all body's functions. When there's a strong pain the brain goes into protection mode or safe mode like a computer booting and is the Reactive Mind who is in charge to save you from the excruciating pain, which would not leave you make the best decision to survive.

    I used to question this a lot myself when I was a child. I grew up religious and I figured my consciousness was my soul, that was the only plausible explanation at the time. This might sound nuts but I pick up on energy changes in people/when I walk into a room I can "read the room" and feel the conjoined energies of the people around me. And the energies are contagious, you hangout with one person and feel energized after. While with a different person you feel drained and exhausted. This sounds crazy but I believe that the universe is consciousness, and our consciousnesses are all connected to the "universal consciousness". In a sense we are all "god" we all see the world through our own eyes, no one knows what someone else sees because the world is literally what we make of it. If you're a negative person you attract negativity, if you're positive you attract positivity. You might end up getting in the same relationship but with different people over and over again. It is all because we manifest our own world to an extent.

      It's entirely possible that when you "read the room", you just have a strong intuition of peoples' body language. When investigators are taught how to read suspects, they're not taught meditation or spirituality; they're taught hundreds of tiny physical cues most people don't even know exist. But once you know those cues, you can read what most anyone is feeling just by looking at them.

    • @doppleganger683
      @doppleganger683 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dismalthoughts You don't have to use meditation or learn "spirituality" to know/ experience these things though. Emotions are energy flowing through us, we are like conductors to it. When there's an emotional moment and other people start crying because they feel it too. Or when something traumatic happens to you and you trap that energy inside then triggers can happen that cause it to replay over and over. When we feel emotion/thoughts we are experiencing them happening to us, you feel or you think. You are consciousness experiencing these things. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, when our bodies die our consciousness recycles. I'm not saying heaven/hell exist, I'm not religious at all actually but I believe all living things are small streams of the collective consciousness, and we live/die/feel anger/sadness/love etc as energy passes through and recycles around. We also recycle around when we die, maybe sometimes coming back as a human, maybe something else, maybe we just join the collective and stay idk.

    • @doppleganger683
      @doppleganger683 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dismalthoughts We all have the ability to tap into the greater collection of energy we're all connected too. With what I'm saying we're both correct, you can pick up and match others energy because it's all the same. Every interaction we have is basically a reflection of ourselves, if we are all apart of the same flow of energy we are individual but one at the same time. When I see someone sad or having anxiety what I feel as "empathy" is them stirring up the same energy from inside me, we share that sadness and anxiety because we are sharing the same energy. We're all connected to the greater energy as a whole, not everyone does this though. We have developed "ego" which individuals us and causes disconnect, we can choose to allow energy to come and flow through us, sometimes it doesn't flow and gets stuck, or we say I don't want to feel this so I won't conduct it. Usually that causes blockages and emotional/mental issues down the road though.

    I think we are incapable of comprehending why we exist. There are probably multiple levels of consciousness beyond our own. For example, when you feed a goldfish, it sees the food and wants to eat it, but it could never comprehend the reasons you are feeding it (love, empathy) because these feelings exist only on a human level. We are all "goldfish", and there is probably a level of "humans" above us.

If it's not bound, it will move into a higher state of spiritual vibration, above all physical entities to become an immaluable force that has a mind greater than what it could possibly have in a physical body. Instead of its thoughts being limited by the human brain, it can comprehend and perceive reality in all ways possible. Reality will become like a playground for it do whatever it wants. Like we as a human reproduce and our offspring carry not just the body features but behavioural features as well, does it mean we never truly die ? And we just die in a consciousness of this body but we have just especially created a clone cycle of ourselves that never ends and only expands like an asexual organism that multiplies itself just in a different way. Doesn't explain why don't we transfer memories and how would both parents combined self lives and bunch of other questions. Or maybe I am just stupid for thinking this much about this. consciousness is a complicated subject, and it's something that philosophers and scientists have debated for centuries. there's no consensus on how consciousness works, and it's possible that we may never truly understand it. however, it's fair to say that consciousness is a fundamental part of who you are, and it's something that makes you uniquely you. it's the spark of life that allows you to perceive and interact with the world around you, and it's what separates you from mere machines. there's nothing stupid about thinking deeply about the nature of your own consciousness. it's a testament to your curiosity and intelligence.

All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. . . . @hasith mayanga No you can't know that for sure. EVERYTHING is measured by your consciousness. You know what the temperature is because you can feel it, see the amout of degrees it is or someone has told you the temperature. At the end of the day all the senses are meassured by your consciousness. Being conscious means to be aware. Your consciousness is your awareness. So when your aware of the temperature it's your awareness (consciousness) that conveys that temperature. You can't be sure that what your consciousness is telling you is true. Go watch Vsauce's video on consciousness, there you will get a better explanation of why you can't be sure of anything except your own consciousness. Have you heard the phrase: "I think, therefore I am"? It means the only thing you can know for sure, is that you exist because you are able to doubt existence. Look up Rene Descartes.

    Several thoughts:
    1. I believe if you split a brain between two people, they would not be the same person. It would be physically impossible for them to inhabit the same space, at the same time, so naturally they'd begin from that point to have separate existences with unique experiences. I imagine it would be very strange for two different people to retain memories of having been ONE person at some point, though...
    2. Tomie. Haha, sorry, I had to. In Junji Ito's graphic novel series, "Tomie," there's a girl who keeps getting in situations where her beauty literally drives men to madness and they always end up chopping her into pieces. Those pieces then become more Tomies, like a flatworm. One story takes this concept to the logical extreme and a girl with a kidney condition receives a kidney from the body of a recently murdered Tomie, and of course, that body part begins to regenerate inside the girl, who starts to look and act more and more like Tomie....
    3. The Swamp Man thing made me think of the teleportation debate among fantasy and sci Fi fans.
    Basically, I guess I would say that it makes the most sense to me that a really important aspect of consciousness is experiencing life from a unique perspective. The cell replacement surgery is a lot trickier for me to come up with an answer to than the first question... I suppose at the moment the cells of the other person take on the memories of the first person, and vice versa, there may be a very brief moment of time where they are you and you are them, before you immediately start formulating separate experiences?

And when it’s early morning and you wake up and go to the bathroom and then you wake up for real, seems like a disconnect between reality and conscious awareness just like anosognosia.

      There are so many logical fallacies in what you just said. Who says we were created at all? Just because we exist does not mean we were designed or made. Therefore there doesn't have to be any purpose behind anything about us. Many other cultures believe in some other version of a soul or spirit, so why does there have to be a soul specifically? Consciousness could be anything, and we simply don't know yet. I don't really expect you to answer this but I couldn't scroll past without addressing these things.

      I think consciousness evolved bc it is efficient way to process information in our surroundings. We get bombarded with so much information every second, through our eyes, ears, senses, etc. Consciousness, having an active consciousness and subconscious, for example, allows us to have a system where we can sort out the information and also importantly, communicate information efficiently to other people - think about learning new information, conveying emotions to a friend, recalling your memories, interpreting pictures and symbols. Just a guess. We could have evolved to have a different mechanism or "consciousness" but that's what living things have in our world ig. As for computer programs, I'm super interested in emergent properties and life right now... I think there may be a possibility computer programs can be "alive" one day, but we aren't there yet (thankfully).

    The main question is how we feel sound, light, sense, pain , pleasure, happiness etc.Our brain works on electrical and chemical signals as far we know, then we should feel electric and chemical impulses but we feel all those feelings mentioned above. As soon as science will sort out how these electrical signals are translated into feelings in our brain then we will understand how consciousness works. A computer is not concious becouse it doesn't have these feelings. If someone will know how to translate electrical bits and bytes to feelings he can give these feelings to a computer too, then the computer will also be conscious.
